Topped the plants early in the week and by the end of the week they were already thriving with new growth. I'm very please with the mix of ProMix HP and a local Hot Soil. I water when the pots are dry and that's about it so far. My plan it to move them to 5 gal pots in another week or two...we will see.

Moved the girls to 5 Gal pots this weekend. Will continue to monitor for a week or so then do some defoliation and prep for flower. The plan is to us a trellis net but it remains to be seen if that will work out. Let's see how the defoliation goes. Lights are about 30" from the plants now but I'm only running them at 40%. Uses HP Pro Mix (50%) and a local Super Soil (50%) for my 5 Gal repotting. Mu hope is that the nutrients in the soli carry me at lease halfway through flower. So far I have not had to add any outside nutrients to this grow other then some basic organic Microbe Brew and Kelp supplements very early on.

This week was pretty steady. Watered when dry and over the weekend I defoliated the bottom 1/3 of the plants and did some LST to a few branches. I also installed the trellis net to even out the canopy. If the plants are healthy this coming weekend I plan to switch to flower but could let it go another week in veg if it looks like the right thing to do. I'll be evening out the canopy each day and watering more as the girls get dry. So far so good, they look healthy and happy.

Good week for the ladies. Did some additional defoliation on the lower 1/3 of the plants. I'm new to this type of training so I think I'm probably not taking enough off but I think any removal of lower leaves will help with airflow and yield. I switched the light schedule to 12/12 the last day of this week so I'll count this week as Veg. Still just watering plain water every 2/3 days as needed with a little run off. I'm managing the canopy by adjusting tops through the trellis as needed. So far so good!

Still just water for these girls. I topped off my soil to add some nutrients to the pots but other than that just water and moving leaves around.

Week 11 and the girls are doing very well. Buds are really starting to stack as you can see in the photos. Frost starting to form as well. They are pretty thirsty now taking 3 L per plant every other day with little or no run off. I still have not had to amend the soil with any additional nutrients yet but will look into some organic dry amendments for the final weeks just in case they need them. I bumped the light up to 80% power and will adjust light distance as plants grow.

Plants showed signs of nutrient deficiencies this week so I did a big feeding, the first of the entire grow. I added a top dressing of Happy Frog Cavern Culture a day or two later to help with blooming. I think the ladies are responding well but it takes a week or so to really see results. Moved the light up a bit as it was getting close to some of the tops. Currently it's about 18 inches above tallest plant and set at 80% power. Buds are starting to stack up nicely now I am hoping they will begin to thicken with the feeding. Plain water for a while now to see how things progress.

Fed the plants a couple of times, still having some leaf issues with yellowing and turning brown on the larger fan leaves. New growth is fine so I'll keep watering and monitoring. Purple is starting to show in some leaves as well which I think is expected with this strain but I've never actually seen this strain or found anyone that's grown it. Buds are definitely stacking up so provided I dodge a major catastrophe I should see a decent yield from this grow.

Gave the girls what I believe will be the last feeding. Losing a lot of fan leaves to nutrient drain so I think we're nearing the end. I hope to go two weeks with just water to flush them of nutrients. Buds are firming up and getting reasonably large...hard to say what the final yield will be but so far so good.

Grow Questions

RI_420started grow question 3 years ago
As the plants near the end (last two weeks) should I expect to lose virtually all the larger/medium fan leaves as the plants drain them of nutrients or is that a sign of overall nutrient deficiency?

You will be harvesting before you loose all of the leaves. It will start at the bottom and slowly start moving up. It looks like you have a slight nitrogen toxicity( leaf tips sharply curl down ) But everything else looks good. Nice grow!!! I would stick with just water or a very low nutrient concentration. The last bit of flushing is to make sure you don't have excess buildup which can cause bad taste and harsh smoke. Some growers wont flush at all but will drop feedings down to a point they know they are starving the plant. Happy Harvest!!

The seeds I’m using stated a 9-10 week flowering period however I took a close look at some of the tricomes today and I’m seeing some significant amber colors and it’s only week 7 of flower. Is that normal? Do I need to rush and harvest them soon?

this plant has been ready for about a week or so i dont know what system your running but yes this has finished quick for you the orange hairs that have pulled back into the bud is a huge sign shes ready to harvest but now you have alot of fresh white pistil growth that in my mind you would do better to let go a little longer so the new growth has a chance to mature but yeah great grow amazing for a first time :)

These plants appear to have finished about 2 weeks earlier than expected. Several of the cola's have 50% amber and others are just starting to show amber. Turned the lights off and will give them 2 days of darkness before harvesting and drying. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I can provide any additional photos or information on the yield a quality of the harvest.

Overall a very successful grow. I used a bowl trimmer that literally saved me 6-8 hours. Net dry weight was 16.8 oz of flower and 4 oz of trim.
