Out of three seeds dunked, all three popped but only two survived. This diary is for the oldest plant, the other went outdoors. No nutrients have been used so far. Having hot mixes using fresh Fox Farms Happy frog soil and seedlings have done better in past with used soil, washed coco coir and rinsed perlite. Third seedling was planted in fresh soil, thus the wilt.

Will my Jack herer autoflower this time around be more robust and have larger, much more dense and lessly populated colas due to being grown in a soil substrate versus my previous JHa in bubbleponics DWC? I notice much slower growth, is this an issue or don't sweat it?

Hey Cali. My ILGM Jack Herer is in week 7, you can follow my grow to compare with yours. I'm using techniques learned at https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/ . I did tons of research and decided that their "fertigation" approach worked well for me. I'll probably use the manifold technique detailed there from now on, because I'm trying to get the most out of a small light and a small tent. I find the manifold easiest to manage, and it keeps the canopy flat in my small space. What made the biggest difference for me was using coco like they describe on cocoforcannabis.com, with liquid nutrients mixed in a daily watering. As they say, it's hard to over-water coco. Watch the leaf color carefully, back-off nutes if dark green. I used a bit too-much in my grows over the last month, so I'm using no nutes for the next few weeks. HMU if you have any questions. Also, I enjoy watching Mr. Canuck's Grow on YouTube...I learned a lot watching him...and it's fun too. Don't over-do the nutrients. I just use the regular Miracle-Gro liquid from the store, mixing in about .2-.5mL per pint.

Very slow growing compared to DWC! Still no nutrients added because plant appears healthy and new soil stays damp quite a bit longer. I assume Red Solo Cuo will have enough soil with nutrients to get this plant through until week 3.

First watering since transplant. Still slow growth but no aparent issues. Had to use twisty to support seedling, probably will add coco around base of stem to give more support.

I have noticed with this particular grow, slow and sluggish progress. Plant health still appears great as there are no signs of toxicities or deficiencies but compared to other grows with this setup, week three would afford a foot of growth on any species. Jack Herer dwc growth was explosive compared to this soil grow! So, other cover crops went to seed and removed and the lights got dropped several feet and directed onto plants @14-17". I also decided to germinate a old strain I'd recieved graciously(Silver Haze/Mexican Landrace).

Pot size was changed early this week as lower seedling leaves were curling, getting brown, spotted and brittle, indicating overwatering. Despite not overwatering, maybe root rot? Decided to inspect and sure enough, root ball was bound at bottom of Solo Cup and transplanted into 1gal plastic pot with a little more soil and coco vs perlite to hold more moisture. Have been watering daily since transplant and using slighly strong mix of Alaska's Fish Fertilizer for a strong boost of Nitrogen(5-1-1). Will be defoiliating a bit once lateral branches have made some more growth. I also noticed this exact leaf problem with my last Jack Herer DWC grow and am starting to think it's possibly a genetic issue. It seems like a magnesium/iron deficiency but really isn't as proper fertilizers are used and in correct portions. This plant is behind by half as this plant is a month old and quite literally half the size of my last JH grow. I am willing to say 50% is my fault and the other half IGLMs for having a fairly unstable genetics line. I'm just keeping my ducks in a row for these next several weeks as growth tripled preflower week...that could be this plants time to shine and grow to the 3ft mark!

Jack will not get to the 3ft mark i was shooting for but will most likely produce an ounce. Starting to notice and see resemblances from my last JH DWC grow with resiliences and issue, mainly the brown leaf spot. This is not a calcium, iron or magnesium deficiency like I'd thought when growing hydro as PH spikes were fairly irregular. I have another jack outside that is about a week or so behind that has much brighter, sturdier, smellier attributes. I have also noticed since I've added a 50w full spectrum(pink) Cob Led, bud site growth has doubled since pre-flower stretch and that main cola is going to be a doozie in 4-6 weeks! Wishing I hadn't transplanted this auto and just put in a 1.5 gal pot in the first place!

Good week. Cooler temps and steady humidity levels. Defoliated many Brown Leaf Blotch fan leaves. Now she's on full flower mode and I've lessened the amount of water per waterings(every day) but have almost tripled bloom booster and ripening ferts for the remaining several weeks. Not the plant I'd expect but every issue may be solely on my part. Mother nature has taken care of outdoor JH as its starting to bloom and stinks!! Indoor plant still has very little small. This room is going to be a one plant room as I cannot keep fungus spores down, especially since this week has been especially rainy. I may also invest in some copper oxide for my pots.

After exfoliation, leaf spot has virtually disappeared and main cola has really put on weight. Flowers are also growing much more densely than with my dwc grow but the blueberry pine diesel smell isn't there this time around. I have also been fertilizing quite high this week, double strength because soil gets completely dry in under 24hrs and I'm not seeing any lockout or toxic signs. 9/15 Started flushing despite last dwc with Jack grow went 12 weeks. Bud was potent but lacked odor.

For the last weekband a half, I have been watering plain RO water PHd 6.7 and only doing so when soil becomes crumbly dry(roughly each 48hrs). Thought about running some blackstrap but have had personal experience with molasses changing terpene profiles and ultimate flavor. Gives my bud diesel/chemical aroma, so straight water for this girl. I will let this girl go another couple weeks as calyxes are continuing to swell and ripen, as well as new pistillate growth. Smell is quite noticable when jostled. Very much blueberry but when stems are rubbed, faint lemon but mostly distinct Marijuana aroma. 75% of trichomes are clear still as well as new, white pistil growth. To my liking, I'd like this sativa dominant to have that kick you in the poo poo ka'choo and keep you down as long as possible. To get this, i might let her flower another month possibly. I want 70% amber trichomes this time around with Jack Herer. At this point with autos, nothing changes much as it plans to go into senescence. Kinda yawn if you ask me and virtually impossible to destroy at this point. Slow finisher...

Not much happened this week as trichomes are basically staying clear. Plant does have great blueberry-lemon aromas and awesome amount of sturdy trichomes complete with heads, calyxes are swollen and many buds appear to be foxtailing a bit but a week of lollipopping a bit for trim shatter(Jack Herer is awesome for sugar leaves) doesn't seem to be hurting the plant. Every day I'm tempted to chop but remember last Jack's product...whispy and very light, cerebral high, nothing down low like I harvested to early. With that being said, watered tonight with a PH'd 7, light 0-10-10 Alaska Fish emulsion and Golden tree 0-0-2 cocktail in waits to see what happens. I just harvested my outdoor crop and i noticed no bad taste despite not "flushing"(i planted in-earth). So, i will be experimenting with non-flush techniques this time. Whats the worst that could happen, end up with 2 zips headed for a PVC tube and Pyrex plate? That'd be crazy though, last few weeks here keep feeding here and have it snap in half because of bud weight! Or reveg despite being Autoflower? Need for the trichomes to ripen and redden.

Still feeding light PK boosters to try and ripen trichomes and am not worried about flushing as my outdoor crop is finished and cured, used same ferts and didn't flush and buds taste great! I dunno what's keeping this plant from finishing but its losing space and light every day being crowded out by other vegging autos. It smells great, has extremely dense buds that are already rock hard and has less airy, hair structure that my DWC Jack Herer grow did when I finished week 12...could be reason buds were so, dainty? Idk I see patches of buds that have trichs that gleam bronzish but on closer inspection, appears to be illusion from red LEDs. Maybe another 14 days? Thinking about purchasing Ethephon and applying it conservatively to male plant in micro-grow...I think this auto is being put into "conserve mode" in order to breed? There must be enough phytoketones or plant hormones in this space that are slowing down the senescence of this seemingly autoflower plant. Lots of assumptions here but plant is alive and well, just not ripening as quickly as I'd like.

Today is chop day! I just don't see any week to week progress other than this plant continues to drink water. 99% of hairs are red/copper, trichs are mostly clear still but bulbs are full and many stalks are bent. Has a great berry-lemon smell when lightly brushed against. I haven't watered for the last 3 days so it's time, that and i need to make needed room for a huge Purple Haze Auto! 10/25/21 Harvested outdoor Jack Herer that was planted same time as indoor JH, Just sun cured to dopey, trichomes ripened goodness! Will be doing Jack Herer Auto Outdoors next year, can't wait to taste this outdoor stuff as it smells totally different than indoors, musk/skunk, and very outdoorsy lemon/pine Marijuana smell vs. Blueberry pine with alot of candy tones but smokes smooth and light. This outdoors stuff has much more robust calyx/bud formation and zero pistils. Trichomes are stretched and bent, bulbs have mostly been lost in wind but by golly the buds are thick, dense and packed with crystals! This will be some primo sh*t! I always liked great outdoor strain buds. Fresh cut weight was just under a half pound. After quick, wet trim, it lost .10lb. These buds are so dense and trim leaves did not give that fresh cut smell or feel so a week hang drying at 69%RH won't lose much h2o weight but releasing buds from main stem will. I assume 1.75oz. Yeah... we'll see though. Keep ya updated.

This was a much easier grow than in a DWC bucket, a whole lot less sensitive to PH spikes and temperature swings. Haven't gotten to the taste testing yet but will edit once dome drying and curing. Overall, very happy with this plant and definitely recommend for new growers and hobbyists. Grows better outdoors or under sealed co2/high light environment!
