Well, it appears all is going good so far. The first 3 photos are of the Blueberry Auto. She's growing at a normal, stable pace. The fourth photo is the White Widow. After heeding some advice from a fellow grower, her health has improved and she has begun catching up with the other plants. The fifth photo is of Cobra Two. She has doubled in size since last week and begun showing her "sex pistols". (Female) - Photo's 6-8 are of Cobra One. One Incredible Beast of a plant! She is growing at such a rapid pace, I had to perform a defoliation on her. I want to give the lower branches a better chance of developing and the Fan leaves were so abundant, I selectively removed those which were shading out the lower branches. The last photo shows a side by side, before and after of the defoliation. She has also revealed her sex so, it looks like any possibility of breeding will have to wait for another grow. So far, so good! I am especially intrigued by the COBRA strain. I'm anxious to see what kind and amount of colas they provide. Well, that is all until next week.

Defoliation of Fan leaves. The COBRA's growth structure is very tight nodes with large, Indica-type fan leaves. The largest one (3rd pic) has tripled in size from the last photo. I have been bending the leaves under side-branches. Can or should I cut them off to allow light in?

I defoliate my plants personally. I think they come back stronger after a good defoliation. I basically look down on the plant from the top and remove any leaves that are blocking bud sites. Any leaves not blocking bud sites can stay. I also remove any yellowing or dying leaves as she goes through flowering. I really think it helps. Feel free to ask any questions. And have fun! 👍

How many times could/should I defoliate these Cobras? The Last photo shows a before & after which took place on May 31st and since that time, she has regrown to the point prior to defoliating. Should I repeat another defoliation? Far too many branches are shaded, again!

Yes you can repeat the defoliation in the 3rd week of flower. I tuck where I can like you, but in flower, the very large stem fan leaves I usually take off as the stems they were powering have fan leaves of their own so don't really need the stem fan leave to boost them. In Week 3, you want those bud sites getting as much light as possible. The plant will stop vegetative growth (leaf growth) by the end of week 4 (The Stretch), so no more will grow in the way then.

@Ganjalf, I'm not sure if you took notice of the Air-pot in the center of the 30 gals. pot. (first photo) It's empty & placed there strictly for watering. I figured with three plants I would want to ensure the water/nutrients reached down to the root balls so, I buried the air-pot halfway to ensure the water didn't have to go through the first 6-inches of topsoil before reaching the roots. I've found using these fabric bags, some water eventually leaks through the sides through the fabric when water is applied to the top layer. I hope it works as planned.

I do what I consider 'real' defoliations twice, once at the beginning of flower, and again about 1/2 way into flower. But I will also do 'light' defoliations as needed throughout the grow - meaning if I see a leaf yellowing and dying off, I pull it.
DudeGrowsWeed

@R_Owl_Mirror, both. I don’t treat my autos much differently than photos with regards to defoliation. But I won’t top or do any HST with autos anymore.

@DudeGrowsWeed, Now are you talking about Autoflowers or Photoperiods?

@DudeGrowsWeed, All leaves are extremely healthy now. They just seem to double & triple in size and amount each day. This this is a beast! And WoW does she smell at 3 weeks! Smells like I spent all night smoking Hash. Later today I will take another before & after photo so, you and others can see how much this beast grows on a daily basis. Oh, the Blueberry seems to have entered a growth spurt too. I had to raise my lights twice in the past few days. Over 6" in 4-5 days. OK, Thanks everybody for the assistance. I will show you what my question was in regards to with another before/after photo.

@Stick, Yeah, it definitely helps get the water/nutes down to the roots more efficiently. Under it, I took one of those political campaign signs, bent it and added a third wall. That way when the water fills up the airpot, it flows individually into each of three sections.

@DudeGrowsWeed, Thank-you for answering my question. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be harmful to a young Auto-flower plant. The other two strains are growing normal but, the COBRA is growing so thick & full. At two weeks you can't see the inner branching, just one thick globe of Fan leaves. I will take photos, before/after the defoliation, as a record for anyone else who happens to grow COBRA.

Gotta say this is first time I've seen 3 in a bed. What would you suggest the benefits are? I can only imaging problems and complications :-( The slow growth would most likely be responsible to the low humidity, or the fact that small plants have been potted into a humongous pot. Get a big empty plastic bottle, cut it in half and place over the small plants. Humidity will rise within the bottle. Good luck though dude, I'll be watching ;-)

@R_Owl_Mirror, OK so you are able to feed them individually then? That was my concern, not being able to feed them at different times or different levels. Cool man I hope it works for you bro :-) and thanks, but no it's not on YouTube.

@YouGrowBoss, Beneath the soil, are walls which separate the root balls into their own 10-gallon space. The Airpot located in the center is to provide direct watering to each root ball without first having to filter through the first 4-5" of soil. Both Cobras are Non-Feminized seeds. I am hopeful that one of them will be a male, which will allow me to both collect pollen for future breedings as well as produce seeds in this grow. Apparently, I am the only person growing COBRA on this forum so, I have no reference to judge by. That is why I have my Blueberry in her own pot, in her own tent. If I do get pollen, I will be able to brush a few flowers on the blueberry to produce a few seeds yet, keep the majority of the plant, seedless. As for the Humidity, it rises & falls according to the weather. It's springtime & we've gotten a few days of rain, then a few days of clear skies. Plus, I also foliar spray each night just before lights out. I did take your advice and placed a cutoff, clear plastic bottle over the White Widow. I included a thick roll of a wet paper towel, pressed along the wall of the bottle to increase the humidity, rather than hope for it to leach out of the soil. BTW, I took a peek at your Glue Factory. Quite impressive! Do you have a video on Youtube of it? I swear I've seen that room before.

@R_Owl_Mirror Hi there! I'd recommend to defoliate 4-5 leaves max per session and let her rest for 2-3 days. Then see how she recovers, if it seems slow --> calm down on defoliation, if she's reacting well --> you can do it again. The important thing is to remove only the leaves that are creating shades onto your bud sites, and don't touch the non-blocking leaves since their role is crucial in energy absorption. Removing too many leaves can result in a stunted plant, slow growth/flowering, and buds full of tiny leaves. Hope this helps, keep us up-to-date and happy growing!

UPDATE: At week 2.5 per my question above, I decided I did need to defoliate the COBRA One. I realize it is a debatable topic but, I saw the benefits of allowing more light inside the canopy outweighed any slowing in growth. She is so young, I thought that at this age it shouldn't cause too much trauma. I uploaded a before & After photo, last photo in the group. * It is truly amazing, the growth rate between the First Photo, taken on May 26. And the Defoliation photo, taken on May 31. The COBRA from Flash Seeds is showing incredible potential. I now just hope to get a Male with as potent growth genetics as Cobra One. ** Just for reference, Cobra is a breeding between a DJ Short's Blueberry, a Lebanese Hash plant and Lowryder by The Joint Doctor.
