This is my second set of seedsman freebie seeds, once again I planted 3 beans but one was too old to germinate, it grew about one inch inside the eazyplug, but then it just stopped. I could see small crack on the seed, so it was probably an old seed, not too old not to sprout but still not viable. That was the Banana Kush last grow and this one is Lemon Auto, not to be confused with Lemon Pie Auto, which is a Fast Buds seed that I'm also growing.
The two that popped were a Northern Lights X Big Bud which even at 7 days looks very powerful and advanced, and a more normal looking Purple Haze Auto, both seedsman freebies.
Purple Haze is looking like your average two week old seedling, but the BigBud X NorthernLights is one of those super powered plants, similar to a Dutch Passion. It has shot out branches from the cotyledon node and one of them has pretty big leaves on it, then there are two more branches at the first true leaf node. It appears this is going to be easily able to take over the whole pot, so I might commit myself at this early stage to some radical experimenting on the Purple Haze, something that I've wanted to try is to grow a strong stock with only a couple of branches to see what sort of colas it gets, so if i can manage it I can get to experiment without risking any loss. That's the plan anyway, and I know that chaos can intervene but I will definitely be going in very severely on Purple Haze.
Week three is when you feel like the plant really reveals herself, and what a reveal. BigBud X NL, is forming my very favourite type of structure, whether it turns out well or not we shall see, but she's fast growing, really fast, and super sturdy, much like a Dutch Passion, but she doesn't have that meatiness you get in DP, she is more willowing and compliant even while being very sturdy. So much so that I decided early that she was going to be the boss of the pot and Purple Haze was going to have to fit in. There are two branches coming off the second node and I might just leave them and the top cola and no other branches. So far I have removed the first pair, and the third pair. Not sure what I'm going to do with big bud yet, but after so many rigid plants, it's nice to have a bendy one back under my firm but steady stewardship.
3rd Week on this reservoir, with some guesstimated top ups.
BigBud x NL is powering on as I expected perhaps even faster, beautiful open structure I'll wait till lemon pie is out of the way in a few days then I'll go in and make some final decisions about how to handle this plant. Every plant is a unique adventure with autos. You really have no idea what is going to happen plus no two are alike. I think after nearly three years I feel like I'm getting a handle on these buggers. It's certainly a different experience to growing photoperiod clones that's for sure.
Fortunately I have a huge return on my Lemon Pie which takes the pressure off me here because this BBxNL has be pretty well perplexed, she's very fast growing, fairly branchy but with extended nodes. I don't know how to deal with her and she is the complete opposite of the stocky Purple Haze. I have decided to just let these two do whatever they want and deal with it later. However I had to take the pot out into the light to trim her a bit and tie her down, because it was impossible to tell unless I could really have a good look all around. I still have no idea what's going to happen. Oh yeah, she's also flipping into flower a bit early so things are going to be getting a bit crowded in a few weeks.
Big Bud x N.L, has exploded and Purple Haze is almost completely swamped. BB has put on 10 inches in height and that is after I pulled her down she's pretty well tripled in size the past week. She is not only huge and fast growing for her age, but she's also the most slender willowing girl I have yet grown. There could not be more of a contrast in all these Seedsman beans. This BigBigxNL, could be a bit of a shock in a tent. Being so open a lot of light is getting in so I can be more frugal with the defoliating. But I still have absolutely no idea what is going to happen or how to really handle this yet. This would be a pretty good strain to scrog, you could probably get a single plant to cover 1.5 square metres.
2nd week on this reservoir, she had a high potassium on the first week of her four week period but then for the second week I just added Micro and 2xGrow to bring the ppm back up.
Big Bud has continued to explode and has caused me to rearrange everything. The purple haze is completely buried, hopefully I can get a couple of buds of her to see what she is like, although she is still helping by containing the BB on one side so I can spread her out the other side. This is the most willowy bean by far, I can't chop any more off because everything is thin. I'm just hoping that she will chunk up.
I've just been letting her alone the past week and she has been begging to bud up. Went in today for some defoliation and also a bit more pruning. Unfortunately Purple Haze is has been reduced to a single stem, in there somewhere.
I've just been letting this one fatten up a bit, without much more defoliation seeing as the light is getting through and the buds seem to be developing ok. But today I did go in for some medium defoliation plus a fair bit of pruning which enabled me to open her out. i do like this bud structure with nuggets everywhere instead of packed colas, she doesn't look to resiny yet but when I go in with the loupe she seems covered, I guess I'm a bit thrown off because there's not a lot of smell on this one, but she is fast to bud.
While pruning and defoliation I uncovered the Purple Haze so it looks like I'll at least get a decent sample, she's looking very healthy and pretty with her purple tints and black in the leaves. I have put a new fresh reservoir in after four weeks as is my now new routine.
I am liking this plant more every day, so easy to care for, complete opposite of my NYCdiesel. Gradually letting the light in keeping her airy, as I has some bud rot problem with my NYCD. Flowers are absolutely packed with resin, I'll have another update tomorrow as this one is a week late!
I thought it was 12 weeks but it's only 11!, I decided to harvest today because the Amnesia needs the room, and this one looks pretty done, although the Purple Haze could do with another week but being chunky I'm a bit worried still about bud rot but it's only been 11 weeks so I think I'm fine. If the purple haze is nice, I'd grow what I have left of her but not the other ones I grew, the NYCdiesel and the Northern Lights. When I had nearly finished, harvesting I decided to put the pot back for another week to see what happens. I am very happy with the BigBudxN.L just nuggety buds all over, with no unnecessary crap, and little chance of bud rot with such an open flower structure.
The Purple Haze has bulked up since last week and I think I'lll go another week on her as I can open the buds so I don't think there will be a problem. I am interested to know how she turns out so far she has a very interesting aroma. I harvested most of the rest of the Big Bud, I need up with so far 8 zips, of BB plus prolly another 2 on the line. I left a few buds to keep her alive so the roots don't rot. I also drained her into the baby White Widows, because I couldn't be arsed. Otherwise the Purple Haze is very pretty.
