Day 85). You can actually see the buds now, especially on top. Taking pictures with the lights out and flash on really let's you see what you got. Will do that more often. Thanks! @Richa1212! Yesterday's trichomes check much the same. No amber, just clear and cloudy mix. This week's feed ups the PK. Might be final week of feeding. Day 86). Harvest and Drying Strategy: Decided yesterday I will do whole plant drying. Because the scrog net can't be removed without cutting and ends up being a great tool for hanging the whole plant in the dry tent. Just cut the whole thing down at the very base, grab the trunk, turn the plant upside down and clip the net to the poles. I'll use a hook from the crossbar to the trunk of the plant for more weight support as to not stretch the net too much or have it pulled down by the weight. Leaning towards doing a small amount of pre-harvest wet trimming of the larger leaves, in order to assist air circulation in the tent to prevent mold and rot. Though I'm also concerned with destroying trichomes by handling the plant too much. So I think any pre-harvest defoliation should be limited and very carefully done. I'm thinking just cut the large leaves in half but leave the stems. Basically, just make any large leaves smaller. It doesn't matter where you cut a leaf at harvest like when you are growing, right? Will start setting up dry tent today, because I want to start doing temperature tests. Can't do humidity tests because my apartment is assisting a flowering process at a set (too low) humidity. Need to do light tests as well. And ultimately, it needs to be cat-proofed - this is what concerns me the most. lol 😺. Bought a 24 inch square pillow to put on top. Compromise. I flipped the plant around 180 in the tent. Good thing I did. More tomorrow. Day 87) I had married my mind to the idea that a scrogged plant couldn't ever be moved. I hope I didn't pay a price for that. So now the main momma cola is on the opposite side - near the tent pole that is closest to the tent opening (the one closest to you to the left in most of the pics). Hadn't seen that half of the plant in, like, 8 weeks? Wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good. To shorten the story, had a relaxing time - listening to indie tracks while up on Wedding Cake - while defoliating that side of the plant. Lots of work needed to be done, but now she looks great with lots of air between the buds and some more light penetration to the buds I'm trying to fatten now. I did discover, however, that certain buds had been pushed up against the mylar the whole time - not getting enough light and getting humid together. Looked around for mold and rot - I don't think I found any but I will post a pic to the Question forum later. But I did find PINK buds? Huh? If those aren't sick buds, this plant/strain is truly amazing. I like that I need to water from the exact opposite angle now. I can already see the topsoil (topcoco? lol) rearranging itself to the new attack angle. I wonder if that's happening underneath as well - unlocking new channels and salt accumulations? From now on it will be my practice to spin around the scrog on a weekly or so basis if LST doesn't encumber the move. She's a small enough scrog that you can easily do that - one advantage of doing a mini-scrog. (The only one?) So I did trich check on the main cola and .... more cloudy than the buds I've been checking up to now, but no amber anywhere and it still looks pretty glassy. But look at her... How much more time can she need? She's looking a bit chunky now. Will check trichs again later. Day 88) Looks like all defoliating and training of this plant is over. Nothing else to do. Started LST as a seedling, ended defoliation in flower, and this honeybadger of a strain handled all of it well. But maybe all the stress is why this is taking so long? No choice. I was threading a needle. Tough action had to be taken. Cloudy trich heads are visible around, but she's still looking pretty glassy. I can't believe she still needs time. Her pistils are pretty orange now and starting to curl. Will look into whether trichome development can have issues sometimes. Happy Growing! Day 90) Good news. I've started figuring out how to use the 60x magnification lens on my loupe. And in so doing, I've discovered that about 80 or maybe even as high as 90% of the trichs are in cloudy mode. Few milky (more are clear than there are milky though). And I saw one amber trich on a bud. And that's a personal milestone. That's my first amber trich on a bud. So.... Now we have a rough schedule. I read that when you get to strongly cloudy, you are within two weeks away from ambering. So my rough schedule now is to keep feeding for another week or so - aiming to leave about 5 or 6 days of flushing (this is coco, not soil). Not sure if I will start tapering ECs (why is that necessary if you're gonna starve her eventually?) The defoliations I recently did should allow lots of light and air to get to the lower buds of the plant, cuz honestly I think she's more pistils than bud atm, we need a little more. Day 96 to begin flush. Around Day 102 harvest I'm guessing. Let's see how this goes. Happy Growing and Harvesting and Drying and Curing! πŸ˜πŸ‘ Day 91: Just wanted to say that although I got a big bag of burned and ugly buds at the moment, I still think she's beautiful. When you get up close and look at the buds (past all the burnt and dried stuff), she's really beautiful. My goal was just to have something to harvest so that I could learn as much as I could. It's looking possible. It's taking much longer than I expected (twice as long almost). But ok. The lessons were the point. Someday I'll have a huge tent with huge plants with huge buds. Right now, it all starts with a 2x2x3 little tent. Not trying to win beauty pageants right now. That's why I take so many pictures from far away. Up close - not so pretty. She seems to be foxtailing a bit. I'm not very concerned. More bud is more bud. 😎 LOL. Checked trichs again this morning. The light or potassium burned sugar leaves are showing about 10% amber, but the buds look almost 100% cloudy (maybe 90%). I've learned I need 60x mag or I can't really see them. Since I only really learned how to do this two days ago, I'm not sure if the plant needs two weeks or two days. Will use the data the sugar leaves are giving me to get an idea. The buds are frosty. You can almost see that the trichs are cloudy with the naked eye. Posted a macro picture yesterday that I think shows that. Sucks not being sure how much time you got left, but this is how you learn, right? With my 2nd grow, I'll be good/decent at this from the get-go. I probably have two days of feed left before I have to make more. I should prolly split the difference and just start flush in 2-3 days when this feed finishes, and then harvest in 8-9 days. That way I'm either only a few days too late or too early, I reckon, if I get it wrong. If I plan for two weeks to harvest, I could seriously over shoot this or leave her unflushed. And I do believe in flushing, cuz to me, she smells like nutes. I want that out of there. And this is supposed to be a racier strain, though I'm not crazy about too racy. Like I know that I don't want to harvest her today. She's prolly near the peak on either side, and no.. I want to chill her out a bit. So maybe flush day 93, harvest day 99? Stay tuned... New week tomorrow.. Happy Growing! (Check out my YouTube page at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtLdjlvS0mK9Pu3pkumUu-w)

I thought she would need about 84 days to finish. So that would be in about a week and a half. But as compared to pictures I've seen around here, she looks like she may need more time? Right? I just don't want to start flush early. I'm growing in coco.

I’m not sure how many weeks she’s been flowering- but from the photos she has about 3 weeks left. She’s shooting a ton of white pistols straight out, she’ll definitely pack on some weigh in the coming weeks. When I grew this is took closer to 10 weeks in flower- buy boy was she worth it! I’m a soil grower, so not sure if growing in coco speeds things up. I’d wait 10-14 days and then think about flushing. 🌱

TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Ferenc, Would be nice. Thanks. Those buds are starting to really fill out now. I'm thinking it will be less than two weeks til its time. exactly when I don't know, but I've gotten comfortable using a jeweler's loupe, so I'll just let her tell me. I'm concerned that the main cola will be ready for harvest first before the rest of the plant. The plant's development has been like that up to now. Not sure if I'm comfortable with partial harvest. This is something I need to decide soon. Will prolly spend today setting up the dry tent somewhere or deciding whether to just dry in the current tent and take a week off from growing. Big decisions loom. Will try to have the plan ready in a couple days. I did decide how I was going to try tp hang them in the tent - IKEA S hooks! Right on cross bar. The little ones should do great. I have a lot of them. Maybe a velcro tie to the hook. I also decided that I would partially trim the plant right before harvest (large leaves at least).. Why? Pictures! That's why. LOL. I want to see her naked. Buds only. (not too concerned with bud quality beyond them not getting bud rot at this stage of my learnings.) Then I'm gonna chop the four/five main branches and hang them in the tent. Also need to figure out how to manage humidity in the tent. Is a humidifier in a dry tent a good idea? Thanks for your support. :D

@TinyTenter, oh wow, there's some names I don't know. I'll definitely check it out. As far as your question...are you using choir or soil? If just choir then make sure the choir is ph balanced before and you're all good!
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@EBxAH, I didn't know that! Thanks! Does gypsum work in coco/coir? And as for what I've learned, there are just so many great resources to draw from - it borders on frustrating! There's so many. Like this site. GrowDiaries helped me a bunch early on in seedling and early veg. And Nebula Haze's blog on GrowWeedEasy about growing in a mini-tent was priceless. I don't spend a dime or second on this project if it wasn't for that amazing blog. I'm basically copying most of her setup. Same pot, lamps, tent, medium and nutrients as that blog. Only minor differences - I have my filter outside the tent - and in reality, it has smelled like weed in here for over 15 years - don't need that much scrubbing. My cat doesn't care. LOL. But it does a mostly great job that way. And I didn't top at all like she does. I half broke the stem and trained. It grew a knuckle. (Scariest time of the grow - lots of self-loathing for being a risk taker). And I scrogged, she doesn't. The other website that was essential was CocoForCannabis. There's lots of soil advice out there - but coco advice is harder to find without that website. I followed his feed schedule. Just didn't want to use as much PK boost as he does. I wonder if the whole PK boost thing is realistic anyway from a scientific standpoint, but we'll see. On YouTube - BeginnerBudz, FromSeedtoStoned, MrGrowIt, Everest Fernandez, etc. If you like doing this, you can spend all day.. And I did. 😜 I wont have as much time in the future, but I won't need as much time because of this experience, so I wanted to invest as much as I reasonably could while still having time to vape and chill with my cat. LOL.

@TinyTenter, yeah, I guess one would only see that in person. You really know your stuff man! Yeah, not anything you can do about your light height. Bummer. About your salt issue...is it alot? Gypsum helps with that but I'm betting you already know that. Beautiful plant man. Again, great job!

@Ganjafarmer420flowers, Glad you liked it. As for the trichs pictures, I want to do that. She has purple trichs so that would be fun to show. I have a digital microscope, but I can't keep my hand steady enough to take a good picture. I'm looking for some better options/strategies in order to do that. But I don't want to spend too much on it, I also don't want to remove bud in order to take a picture. Have any ideas?

@Ganjafarmer420flowers, Hey buddy! πŸ˜€ I started thinking about doing this end of April. Started getting all the stuff first week of May. Planted my 1st seed mid-May. Thought I was growing in soil, didn't feed for 1st days, she was dying, I ended it. Next two seeds failed to get out of the pot for different reasons, Next one I started well but tried to transplant on Day 5 and that crumbled and failed. Then I started this one on June 1. That's the whole growing resume. So I've had 5 first grows, What matters is that this will be my first and only HARVEST! 😻 I just studied online alot. This was all done by Google and YouTube search. For example, yesterday I was listening to this to get me ready for drying. www.youtube.com/watch Good stuff in there.. And what's perfect about her anyway?.. She's showing every light burn symptom imaginable. Even foxtailing. But I get what you are saying and thank you very much! It's been a ton of fun. GrowDiaries is great social media because it's about something you are DOING instead of about someone you are BEING, like Facebook. This growing community is a community of doers who share advice about what they are enjoying doing, It's great! Once I get more experience, I plan to share the love around too! Bro, I think I finally got that flash/trich picture you wanted done, Check my last photo Week 13. Let me know if that's what you meant.

TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@ChefDan420, Agreed, my friend! Agreed! Had to go for it. 36 inches total height, except for the 5 or so that the crossbar and lamp assembly takes - so make that 31 inches. If you want to give minimum 8 inches clearance from the lamp (I'm doing better than that, thankfully), you're down to 23 inches. Take 9 for the pot. 14 inches is the maximum permissible height of the plant. SCROG is a great way to turn the Sears Tower into the Pentagon. At one point I was SCROG and LST at the same time. Velcro ties were clutch, because they stick to the pot AND the trellis net. Gives you many training/options angles. Thanks bro. Will check your diaries,

@TinyTenter, yields are way better and I use 3 gallon fabric with dynomyco. I only feed every other morning. After I ensure my ph run off is righ. Then opposing morning and all evenings I splash with ph water with no real run off. Keeping it wet. Works really well and half nutrition cost or less . Can use your runoff to prep more coco weeks in advance as well. Plus it is reusable. It releases potassium as it biodegrades.
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Roberts, Hi! Thank you! I got great advice from many places on the internet on how to do it, so that grow is a testament to how much helpful information is simply shared all over the place by awesome stoners!πŸ˜‡ LOL!πŸ˜‚ Yes, the coco coir club seems rather small. Hard to get info about it at first. CocoforCannabis saved me for life. I mean, when a pile of dirt isn't a pile of dirt at all. Haha. Coco is more daily work because I have to water twice a day. But then again, it becomes a routine, so you become less likely to F the thing up. If you mess up a feed's' numbers (ph/EC), it's okay, the next feed in 12 hours will fix it! And since you water twice a day, you're in front of the plant twice a day, so you get to do more work on it (defoliation/LST/etc.) No nutrients in the medium, so no X factor comes and ruins your grow. I hear soil COMES with bugs sometimes. No thanks. Apartment buildings already have plenty of those. lol. And finally, since coco is a quasi-hydro medium, you prolly also get better yields. So coco coir is my religion. Can't wait to figure out how to efficiently and effectively do automatic watering someday. Did you have a different name a few months ago. I feel like you've answered one of my questions before or something. Just wondering. Thanks again! Have a great grow day!

I'm also in week fourteen of a Fast Buds auto, and I can't quite tell. I've only have time for one more week, but as you say, mostly clear trichomes.
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Freddd, Just keep checking the trichs. Are you using 30x or 60x? I thought I had a lot of clear until I figured out how to get the 60x mag to work with the led light so that I could see the trichs correctly. I immediately noticed she was pretty cloudy actually. I'm in flush now. So a few more days. Prolly Day 96 she gets chopped. I think sometimes a long grow means a good yield is coming relative to your situation. There's a given pot size, root ball and main trunk coming out of the soil. If you configure your plant to yield more, it's going to take longer for the plant to get things done all other things being equal, maybe? I dunno. I'm a rookie. Good luck, bud! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘Š
