WEEK 14: THE FINAL WEEK (prolly) Day 92: She looks ready to me this morning. She's standing there pretty with her colas (fat) and colettes (skinny). I'm pretty sure it's time. Except for the new pistils coming out of few foxtails appearing, almost all her pistils are orange and curled back a good bit now, I'm ignoring the foxtails like they aren't there. They won't factor into any decisions except making me shorten the day cycle (read below) to try to prevent re-vegging. So she's getting 0.7 EC feed at 6.1+ until I run out which will be either tonight or first feed tomorrow. I'm also turning her 90 degrees every day, so that when I water it averages out evenly around the pot for these flushes. (I think I might try to do this for all feedings from now. It's just good pot/salt buildup management.) I will check trichs again tonight to see where I am, and unless I see lots of clear trichs and that makes me think there's another week of feed here necessary, which I doubt will happen, tomorrow will begin the flush period, (Check out my YouTube page at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtLdjlvS0mK9Pu3pkumUu-w.) Nothing but FloraKleen at 7.0 ph till she's done in about 6 days or less, depending on trichs. Will also be shortening her day time by an hour every day, She's should be at 12 hours sun by harvest, (I can finally wake up when I want to! Hooray!) And finally... ice cubes. Yeah. Might try it. Why not? Have a great grow day! Day 92 Later:) Just checked trichs and saw they were all cloudy now, some quite cloudy, and a tiny handful that were about to turn amber. So the flush began immediately. Fed her a half-gallon of FloraKleen water. Will do so three times a day until her runoff EC is 200 or under for two or three days as prescribed by MJ Coco of CocoforCannabis. No more feedings. Bring in the closer to pitch the ninth... FloraKleen. LOL This is fun. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Day 93) Flush runoff EC this morning was down to 0.7. Hopefully we'll be closer to 0.3 by tonight. Dry tent was put in place last night - to give my cat a few days to get used to it. He's a good smart little cat, so I don't really expect many problems. I'm using the iPower 2x2x3 tent to dry. I didn't think it was a better candidate as a grow tent than the CoolGrows, but it should be a very good dry tent. It's quite light restrictive. It doesn't even have a viewing window. And most importantly, the side closest to the window (sunlight) has no ports/openings. Very easy to assemble and disassemble as well. Airflow should be good, exhausting air from the port at the top, intake of air through the flaps at the bottom - nice upward liminal air movement. I've learned that if you add fans to a tent this small, you can easily run into problems - it's only 12 cubic feet so you can easily have too much air movement. So that's prolly gonna be it for air circulation. Happy Growing, Drying and Curing!!! Have a great one! Day 94) Runoff EC came in at 0.35 this morning so moving well on the right track. Hopefully we'll hit 0.2 soon and be on track for harvest late on Day 96. Just bought a big boy humidifier for my apartment. Just like my purchase of a large dehumidifier a couple months back, I expect this machine will provide benefits beyond the scope of growing, because I frequently need to use expensive electric heaters in the winter. Raising humidity should ameliorate this need at a lower energy cost. Should help me have greater control over my grows as well. Checked trichs on a different side of the plant this morning. Same result as last time. All cloudy with few yellowed on the way to amber. Even the lower buds out of direct light are mostly cloudy. We can't be terribly off pace. Right? And btw, the buds are still growing. Beginning to see a very small amount of yellowing in the lower parts under the canopy. Really looking like Day 96-98 will be harvest time. Have a great day! Day 95) We're at 0.2 EC. She's just getting plain water now. I spritz the outside of the pot with FloraKleen water to soften the deposits there. But that's it. OK... So let's sum up what I want to differently with my next grow(s). 1) There won't be a diary of my next grow for a while, if at all: Many changes coming to my life soon. I want to include this hobby badly in it. But I need to assess where I can fit it in the chaos, Will definitely try, But 3 months is a long time, and I can't promise I won't abort the next grow in the middle of it, and I don't want to start a diary I can't guarantee will be finished. Just being honest and fair. Believe me. I want to do this. I'll try to be back as soon as possible. My next attempt at a grow will be Barney's Farms Wedding Cake. I just had some here and I really like that strain. I'd really like to have some more, so.. 2) Feeding: My feed strategy that I got from GWE and CC4C worked very well during seedling and veg. No calmag/burn issues. But my flower strategy (I deviated from GWE and CC4C) might need work. What if it WAS a potassium deficiency and not light burn? Been watching Perfect Gardens on YouTube, He explains how Calcium during flower might be a bit of a problem, but unfortunately it comes married with Magnesium, which you need. But you can watch the video. 3) Lighting: I miscalculated where I was in the veg/flower transition so I think I brought out the flowering lamp too early. Will wait till I'm certain the stretch has been happening for a few days before I bring out the red spectrum next time. No point growing stems instead of buds and giving your plant light burn. I'm excited about an idea I have for getting the lamp to go an inch or two higher. But I'm also thinking about ways to make the plant go lower, which leads me to... 4) Topping: I'm real proud that I never topped this girl. I abused that main stem in every way possible, but I never chopped her head off. I'd rather be abused than decapitated. Right? But my next grow I WILL do some topping because it's something I need to experience, and because it may help me grow slightly larger strains in this tent, or at least have an easier time with the training and scrogging of plants (read above about chaos). 5) Minor things: Find a shorter 2 gallon pot. Think about automatic watering/feeding. Other than that, I love that I decided to do this crazy thing. Oh I forgot about one guy to thank,, CannaMink on YouTube, If I don't see his video about trying to grow weed in an AeroGarden, I never go looking for Nebula Haze's blog, cuz my first idea was to do that.. In an AeroGarden. Thank you, Nebula Haze!! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Š Day 96). Been running the dry tent to learn how to drive it. Right now she's running both too hot and too dry. If I try to reduce temp with the AC, she gets drier. If I put a humidifier in the tent she'll be too wet unless I run the exhaust at high level - now negative pressure might be too high. Unfortunately, the beginning of this dry will be spent experimenting and adjusting , so I'm not expecting great results. But I'm a rook, so why would I expect great results. Better to expect mistakes and having something to learn from them. The lesson may simply end up being, don't be trying to dry weed when the AC is necessary to reduce temperature. Easier to raise humidity when it's cold and dry? Skip summer grows? We'll see how it goes. She's prolly going down tomorrow night. Day 97. Morning of Day 98 the latest.Yellowing is progressing around the plant.Makes me little bit sad to see her like that. But I still can't wait to vape her. LOL. Have a great grow day! Day 97). Mint Chocolate Chip is great. Too bad is doesn't come in a short auto. She's not that yellow and those buds keep getting scrumptiously thick on top. Was thinking I'd chop her tonight, but kinda wavering on that now. I'll check her trichs later and make a decision. Maybe it's worth waiting a day or two more? Waiting for the humidifier to arrive before I chop her. Should be here later today. So nothing happens til then. I won't chop until I am sure the environment is right for drying. Have a great grow day! Day 97 Later:) I checked the trichs and they were all juicy everywhere up and down. About 5% were turning amber. Leaves were yellowing. She's recommended to be harvested at most frosty, so I thought it was time. I brought out the saw. And no scissors would have cut it, btw. Glad I bought that saw. She would have been highly insulted if I walked up to her with scissors - after all we've been through? It took a few violent minutes, but it was done. In a twist of events, I decided to just hang her in the tent she grew up in. It's just that I already know how to drive that tent in terms of environment. I know what influences it. I can control it. So I also decided to turn the iPower into a seedling tent for now, while I get to know the dynamics of that tent in that location. Why risk the grow to a new location? Risk the seedling instead. I have more than one of that seed anyway. Never mind that I won't have to move the carbon filter anywhere. Then, when the drying is over, I'll move that pot and plant into the grow tent that is currently a dry tent. So that's all she wrote... Tomorrow a new week! I think. How does this all work now? I'm not wet weighing.. Just sayin. The whole plant is in the tent upside down. How would I even do that? ๐Ÿ˜„ Post Notes: When she was yellowing during the flush, many of the "light burn" symptoms got worse quickly. Leads me to think that it wasn't light burn maybe? More later. I thought she would need about 84 days to finish. So that would be in about a week and a half. But as compared to pictures I've seen around here, she looks like she may need more time? Right? I just don't want to start flush early. I'm growing in coco.

Iโ€™m not sure how many weeks sheโ€™s been flowering- but from the photos she has about 3 weeks left. Sheโ€™s shooting a ton of white pistols straight out, sheโ€™ll definitely pack on some weigh in the coming weeks. When I grew this is took closer to 10 weeks in flower- buy boy was she worth it! Iโ€™m a soil grower, so not sure if growing in coco speeds things up. Iโ€™d wait 10-14 days and then think about flushing. ๐ŸŒฑ

TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Ferenc, Would be nice. Thanks. Those buds are starting to really fill out now. I'm thinking it will be less than two weeks til its time. exactly when I don't know, but I've gotten comfortable using a jeweler's loupe, so I'll just let her tell me. I'm concerned that the main cola will be ready for harvest first before the rest of the plant. The plant's development has been like that up to now. Not sure if I'm comfortable with partial harvest. This is something I need to decide soon. Will prolly spend today setting up the dry tent somewhere or deciding whether to just dry in the current tent and take a week off from growing. Big decisions loom. Will try to have the plan ready in a couple days. I did decide how I was going to try tp hang them in the tent - IKEA S hooks! Right on cross bar. The little ones should do great. I have a lot of them. Maybe a velcro tie to the hook. I also decided that I would partially trim the plant right before harvest (large leaves at least).. Why? Pictures! That's why. LOL. I want to see her naked. Buds only. (not too concerned with bud quality beyond them not getting bud rot at this stage of my learnings.) Then I'm gonna chop the four/five main branches and hang them in the tent. Also need to figure out how to manage humidity in the tent. Is a humidifier in a dry tent a good idea? Thanks for your support. :D

@TinyTenter, oh wow, there's some names I don't know. I'll definitely check it out. As far as your question...are you using choir or soil? If just choir then make sure the choir is ph balanced before and you're all good!
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@EBxAH, I didn't know that! Thanks! Does gypsum work in coco/coir? And as for what I've learned, there are just so many great resources to draw from - it borders on frustrating! There's so many. Like this site. GrowDiaries helped me a bunch early on in seedling and early veg. And Nebula Haze's blog on GrowWeedEasy about growing in a mini-tent was priceless. I don't spend a dime or second on this project if it wasn't for that amazing blog. I'm basically copying most of her setup. Same pot, lamps, tent, medium and nutrients as that blog. Only minor differences - I have my filter outside the tent - and in reality, it has smelled like weed in here for over 15 years - don't need that much scrubbing. My cat doesn't care. LOL. But it does a mostly great job that way. And I didn't top at all like she does. I half broke the stem and trained. It grew a knuckle. (Scariest time of the grow - lots of self-loathing for being a risk taker). And I scrogged, she doesn't. The other website that was essential was CocoForCannabis. There's lots of soil advice out there - but coco advice is harder to find without that website. I followed his feed schedule. Just didn't want to use as much PK boost as he does. I wonder if the whole PK boost thing is realistic anyway from a scientific standpoint, but we'll see. On YouTube - BeginnerBudz, FromSeedtoStoned, MrGrowIt, Everest Fernandez, etc. If you like doing this, you can spend all day.. And I did. ๐Ÿ˜œ I wont have as much time in the future, but I won't need as much time because of this experience, so I wanted to invest as much as I reasonably could while still having time to vape and chill with my cat. LOL.

EBxAHcommented3 years ago
@TinyTenter, yeah, I guess one would only see that in person. You really know your stuff man! Yeah, not anything you can do about your light height. Bummer. About your salt issue...is it alot? Gypsum helps with that but I'm betting you already know that. Beautiful plant man. Again, great job!

@Ganjafarmer420flowers, Glad you liked it. As for the trichs pictures, I want to do that. She has purple trichs so that would be fun to show. I have a digital microscope, but I can't keep my hand steady enough to take a good picture. I'm looking for some better options/strategies in order to do that. But I don't want to spend too much on it, I also don't want to remove bud in order to take a picture. Have any ideas?

@Ganjafarmer420flowers, Hey buddy! ๐Ÿ˜€ I started thinking about doing this end of April. Started getting all the stuff first week of May. Planted my 1st seed mid-May. Thought I was growing in soil, didn't feed for 1st days, she was dying, I ended it. Next two seeds failed to get out of the pot for different reasons, Next one I started well but tried to transplant on Day 5 and that crumbled and failed. Then I started this one on June 1. That's the whole growing resume. So I've had 5 first grows, What matters is that this will be my first and only HARVEST! ๐Ÿ˜ป I just studied online alot. This was all done by Google and YouTube search. For example, yesterday I was listening to this to get me ready for drying. www.youtube.com/watch Good stuff in there.. And what's perfect about her anyway?.. She's showing every light burn symptom imaginable. Even foxtailing. But I get what you are saying and thank you very much! It's been a ton of fun. GrowDiaries is great social media because it's about something you are DOING instead of about someone you are BEING, like Facebook. This growing community is a community of doers who share advice about what they are enjoying doing, It's great! Once I get more experience, I plan to share the love around too! Bro, I think I finally got that flash/trich picture you wanted done, Check my last photo Week 13. Let me know if that's what you meant.

TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@ChefDan420, Agreed, my friend! Agreed! Had to go for it. 36 inches total height, except for the 5 or so that the crossbar and lamp assembly takes - so make that 31 inches. If you want to give minimum 8 inches clearance from the lamp (I'm doing better than that, thankfully), you're down to 23 inches. Take 9 for the pot. 14 inches is the maximum permissible height of the plant. SCROG is a great way to turn the Sears Tower into the Pentagon. At one point I was SCROG and LST at the same time. Velcro ties were clutch, because they stick to the pot AND the trellis net. Gives you many training/options angles. Thanks bro. Will check your diaries,

@TinyTenter, yields are way better and I use 3 gallon fabric with dynomyco. I only feed every other morning. After I ensure my ph run off is righ. Then opposing morning and all evenings I splash with ph water with no real run off. Keeping it wet. Works really well and half nutrition cost or less . Can use your runoff to prep more coco weeks in advance as well. Plus it is reusable. It releases potassium as it biodegrades.
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Roberts, Hi! Thank you! I got great advice from many places on the internet on how to do it, so that grow is a testament to how much helpful information is simply shared all over the place by awesome stoners!๐Ÿ˜‡ LOL!๐Ÿ˜‚ Yes, the coco coir club seems rather small. Hard to get info about it at first. CocoforCannabis saved me for life. I mean, when a pile of dirt isn't a pile of dirt at all. Haha. Coco is more daily work because I have to water twice a day. But then again, it becomes a routine, so you become less likely to F the thing up. If you mess up a feed's' numbers (ph/EC), it's okay, the next feed in 12 hours will fix it! And since you water twice a day, you're in front of the plant twice a day, so you get to do more work on it (defoliation/LST/etc.) No nutrients in the medium, so no X factor comes and ruins your grow. I hear soil COMES with bugs sometimes. No thanks. Apartment buildings already have plenty of those. lol. And finally, since coco is a quasi-hydro medium, you prolly also get better yields. So coco coir is my religion. Can't wait to figure out how to efficiently and effectively do automatic watering someday. Did you have a different name a few months ago. I feel like you've answered one of my questions before or something. Just wondering. Thanks again! Have a great grow day!

@Freddd, funny how you end up stumbling onto some ideas, huh? lol! ๐Ÿ˜ thanks bud! I have a big one that is pretty quiet until the compressor turns on/off, then it sounds like its trying to jump or something. I've gotten used to it.

I'm also in week fourteen of a Fast Buds auto, and I can't quite tell. I've only have time for one more week, but as you say, mostly clear trichomes.

@Freddd, Just keep checking the trichs. Are you using 30x or 60x? I thought I had a lot of clear until I figured out how to get the 60x mag to work with the led light so that I could see the trichs correctly. I immediately noticed she was pretty cloudy actually. I'm in flush now. So a few more days. Prolly Day 96 she gets chopped. I think sometimes a long grow means a good yield is coming relative to your situation. There's a given pot size, root ball and main trunk coming out of the soil. If you configure your plant to yield more, it's going to take longer for the plant to get things done all other things being equal, maybe? I dunno. I'm a rookie. Good luck, bud! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Š
