Reviews. Nutrient
Anything that helped me be successful with the grow is something I need to applaud. I only give 4 stars because I only have one full grow under my belt. No comparison basis.
Reviews. Lamp
I'm very happy that the blog I was following that recommended the way I grew my plant included HLG as a strong part of their recommendation. My grow never exceeded 100W. And though I have nothing to compare against from personal experience, others on this site who do remarked what a strong grow it was for its circumstances. So if this was a great grow, that means HLG makes great lights.
Reviews. Tent
Very well designed tent. Versatile. Has port openings for any idea you may have. It opens 180 degrees on one side, which makes it a pretty good tent for scrogging, which is highly recommended for yielding in a tent this small.

Drying Period: Day 0) I'll have more to say in a couple of weeks about the harvest once I weigh, I guess? But for now, I don't see why i shouldn't diary the dry and cure too. Why not? So... I set the temp/humidity sensor cord for the AC Infinity T4 inline fan through the middle of the plant and out through the bottom so that the sensor is one inch below the canopy of (upside down) buds. I figure you should measure the air going in through the bottom, not in the middle (too humid) or above (also too humid) where the air goes out. I could be wrong tho. Now it's just a game of figuring out what numbers work on my AC and/or dehumidifier and/or humidifier(s) in order to create a good and stable environment in there. I got room to play, but I'm gonna let her be a little humid today, I think, then try to stabilize her around 50-60% because the tent will likely run around 70-75, so a higher humidity is better for VPD. Right? I dunno. Just don't want rot. Day 2) She's been staying mostly at 75 degrees in there, til my bed time, when it gets down to 71-73. So she's on the hot side of acceptable. To counterbalance I'm keeping humidity high at 55-60%. The source of humidity inside the tent is mostly the plant, so the rh readings will give indication how wet the plant still is. I suppose once she gets to the point that I feel I need to SUPPLY humidity to the tent, we are prolly getting close to jarring this girl. My fan is set to 20% of maximum. which for a 200 CFM setup in a 12 cf tent, means she's getting a little more than 3x air replacement per minute - should be good enough. I put foil tape over the zippers in order to block light and have control over the stream of air inside the tent. I want air 95% coming from the flaps at the bottom so that the air flows up through the plant and out. I'm concerned about mold pockets developing in the corners of the tent cuz there are no other fans in there. I hope 3x air replacement is enough. We'll find out. (A 1st grow should be part lab experiment, right?) I'm gonna get in there later at the 48 hour mark to flip the plant around 180 degrees. I hope I don't see a weird nightmare in there. I haven't set eyes on her in two days. Wow. After being obsessed with her for 99 days. Feeling a little parental. Need to stop that. The cat is starting to really get jealous. ๐Ÿ˜น LOL Have a great grow day! Day 2 Later:) Been watching drying, trimming and curing videos on YouTube. I'm leaning towards a drier trim obviously. But I don't know if I should interrupt the dry to trim a bit. Or if I should cut her up in branches and rehang. You see all kinds of recommendations. I'm leaning towards just letting her dry whole plant and then trim and then jar. It's a little hot in there. Air is getting drier and more fall-like round here every day. If the goal is letting her dry longer, and my temps/RH are OK, then let her keep going that way. I've come to understand that leaves fall off in a dry trim if they truly are dry, so... I'm just spinning her 180 degrees every two days because the exhaust port of the tent and the inlets at the bottom aren't symmetrical. So I don't want certain air patterns burning one side of the plant or freezing the other. So give her a whirl. My T4's sensor is near the center of the tent under the plant, so it should be a good average read of the environment. Yes. I'm stressing. So close to the end. And this is when you have to be most patient. Just leave her in the dark and wait. A really long-baking cake with MUCH sweeter frosting. LOL. Day 2 Later Later:) So I did the 180 flippy thing. She smelled like weed but grassy still. Like a skunk died in the middle of a fresh cut soccer field. Just trying to describe it. LOL. This will get tougher in two days when I have to start knowing what I'm doing. I need to learn how to test for dryness. But this strain has pretty woody stems. I'm not sure a branch break means anything. I'll start playing with her about that in 48 hours. At that point, she's been drying for 4 days, and decisions might need to be made. Will read GWE's blog on the subject. Day 2 Later Later) I can always thank Nebula Haze for curing my anxiety. She says a good way to test for dryness is to take a small bud in your hand and bend its stem. If it breaks off with no stringy attached, you should consider trimming and jarring soon. Cool. So I have something to follow now. Very relieved. Day 3) I should be far less loquacious today. All that happened today was realizing the girl was too high in the tent, so I used extra S hooks to lower her to a slightly cooler position closer to the bottom of the tent. Now just waiting to spin and inspect the plant on Day 4 of drying. Have a great day! Day 4) Checked her this morning. Buds were moving easily on their branches - no snap at all. Leaves don't look dry at all. Just wilted. Humidity levels are gradually dropping in the tent, all things being equal. So she seems to be in a 2nd level of dry now - good timing for Day 4 if you are trying to achieve a minimum 7 day dry. She's not sticky to the touch. She never was tho. When you touch her you get lots of pistils but there's a dense thickness underneath. I dare not squeeze. Will be interested to see if these buds are a bit thin tho. I won't be disappointed if they are. I'm ecstatic just about finishing the marathon. Never dreamt of winning it. The next one? We'll see.... And on that note, she sprouted this morning. A small battle. But if I ever write a diary for it, I'll tell you the story. And that's the last I'll talk about that grow in this diary too. Have a great grow day. Day 5) She certainly looks and feels drier now. I got a kind of psychic vibe that the plant would be ready for trimming in less than four days. Prolly only 2. The smell is definitely more dead skunk than soccer field now. Leaves look drier. Stems stiffer. Pulled on a few leaves, though, and they stayed rooted to the plant and the stems were still flexible on those leaves and small buds. So I think she's not quite ready yet. I'm going to stop doing the 180 flip thing now. It's a little rough on the plant if I also want to clip the corners of the plant to the tent poles with the trellis net. The connecting and disconnecting of the net is a big violent shake on the plant. I could disconnect the net, but then the buds would be "sticking" together. (She isn't sticky. She's hairy. Does that mean I messed this up somehow. Prolly. LOL.) Can't believe this will all be over in just a few days. What a long, fun, educational and confidence-building journey๐Ÿ˜: 1:! Have a great grow day. Day 6: Gotta keep this short. Very busy. There's this plant that needs to be trimmed and jarred and weighed. Talk to ya later. Have a great day! ๐Ÿ˜˜

I thought she would need about 84 days to finish. So that would be in about a week and a half. But as compared to pictures I've seen around here, she looks like she may need more time? Right? I just don't want to start flush early. I'm growing in coco.

Iโ€™m not sure how many weeks sheโ€™s been flowering- but from the photos she has about 3 weeks left. Sheโ€™s shooting a ton of white pistols straight out, sheโ€™ll definitely pack on some weigh in the coming weeks. When I grew this is took closer to 10 weeks in flower- buy boy was she worth it! Iโ€™m a soil grower, so not sure if growing in coco speeds things up. Iโ€™d wait 10-14 days and then think about flushing. ๐ŸŒฑ

TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Ferenc, Would be nice. Thanks. Those buds are starting to really fill out now. I'm thinking it will be less than two weeks til its time. exactly when I don't know, but I've gotten comfortable using a jeweler's loupe, so I'll just let her tell me. I'm concerned that the main cola will be ready for harvest first before the rest of the plant. The plant's development has been like that up to now. Not sure if I'm comfortable with partial harvest. This is something I need to decide soon. Will prolly spend today setting up the dry tent somewhere or deciding whether to just dry in the current tent and take a week off from growing. Big decisions loom. Will try to have the plan ready in a couple days. I did decide how I was going to try tp hang them in the tent - IKEA S hooks! Right on cross bar. The little ones should do great. I have a lot of them. Maybe a velcro tie to the hook. I also decided that I would partially trim the plant right before harvest (large leaves at least).. Why? Pictures! That's why. LOL. I want to see her naked. Buds only. (not too concerned with bud quality beyond them not getting bud rot at this stage of my learnings.) Then I'm gonna chop the four/five main branches and hang them in the tent. Also need to figure out how to manage humidity in the tent. Is a humidifier in a dry tent a good idea? Thanks for your support. :D

@TinyTenter, oh wow, there's some names I don't know. I'll definitely check it out. As far as your question...are you using choir or soil? If just choir then make sure the choir is ph balanced before and you're all good!
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@EBxAH, I didn't know that! Thanks! Does gypsum work in coco/coir? And as for what I've learned, there are just so many great resources to draw from - it borders on frustrating! There's so many. Like this site. GrowDiaries helped me a bunch early on in seedling and early veg. And Nebula Haze's blog on GrowWeedEasy about growing in a mini-tent was priceless. I don't spend a dime or second on this project if it wasn't for that amazing blog. I'm basically copying most of her setup. Same pot, lamps, tent, medium and nutrients as that blog. Only minor differences - I have my filter outside the tent - and in reality, it has smelled like weed in here for over 15 years - don't need that much scrubbing. My cat doesn't care. LOL. But it does a mostly great job that way. And I didn't top at all like she does. I half broke the stem and trained. It grew a knuckle. (Scariest time of the grow - lots of self-loathing for being a risk taker). And I scrogged, she doesn't. The other website that was essential was CocoForCannabis. There's lots of soil advice out there - but coco advice is harder to find without that website. I followed his feed schedule. Just didn't want to use as much PK boost as he does. I wonder if the whole PK boost thing is realistic anyway from a scientific standpoint, but we'll see. On YouTube - BeginnerBudz, FromSeedtoStoned, MrGrowIt, Everest Fernandez, etc. If you like doing this, you can spend all day.. And I did. ๐Ÿ˜œ I wont have as much time in the future, but I won't need as much time because of this experience, so I wanted to invest as much as I reasonably could while still having time to vape and chill with my cat. LOL.

@TinyTenter, yeah, I guess one would only see that in person. You really know your stuff man! Yeah, not anything you can do about your light height. Bummer. About your salt issue...is it alot? Gypsum helps with that but I'm betting you already know that. Beautiful plant man. Again, great job!

@Ganjafarmer420flowers, Glad you liked it. As for the trichs pictures, I want to do that. She has purple trichs so that would be fun to show. I have a digital microscope, but I can't keep my hand steady enough to take a good picture. I'm looking for some better options/strategies in order to do that. But I don't want to spend too much on it, I also don't want to remove bud in order to take a picture. Have any ideas?

@Ganjafarmer420flowers, Hey buddy! ๐Ÿ˜€ I started thinking about doing this end of April. Started getting all the stuff first week of May. Planted my 1st seed mid-May. Thought I was growing in soil, didn't feed for 1st days, she was dying, I ended it. Next two seeds failed to get out of the pot for different reasons, Next one I started well but tried to transplant on Day 5 and that crumbled and failed. Then I started this one on June 1. That's the whole growing resume. So I've had 5 first grows, What matters is that this will be my first and only HARVEST! ๐Ÿ˜ป I just studied online alot. This was all done by Google and YouTube search. For example, yesterday I was listening to this to get me ready for drying. www.youtube.com/watch Good stuff in there.. And what's perfect about her anyway?.. She's showing every light burn symptom imaginable. Even foxtailing. But I get what you are saying and thank you very much! It's been a ton of fun. GrowDiaries is great social media because it's about something you are DOING instead of about someone you are BEING, like Facebook. This growing community is a community of doers who share advice about what they are enjoying doing, It's great! Once I get more experience, I plan to share the love around too! Bro, I think I finally got that flash/trich picture you wanted done, Check my last photo Week 13. Let me know if that's what you meant.

TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@ChefDan420, Agreed, my friend! Agreed! Had to go for it. 36 inches total height, except for the 5 or so that the crossbar and lamp assembly takes - so make that 31 inches. If you want to give minimum 8 inches clearance from the lamp (I'm doing better than that, thankfully), you're down to 23 inches. Take 9 for the pot. 14 inches is the maximum permissible height of the plant. SCROG is a great way to turn the Sears Tower into the Pentagon. At one point I was SCROG and LST at the same time. Velcro ties were clutch, because they stick to the pot AND the trellis net. Gives you many training/options angles. Thanks bro. Will check your diaries,

@TinyTenter, yields are way better and I use 3 gallon fabric with dynomyco. I only feed every other morning. After I ensure my ph run off is righ. Then opposing morning and all evenings I splash with ph water with no real run off. Keeping it wet. Works really well and half nutrition cost or less . Can use your runoff to prep more coco weeks in advance as well. Plus it is reusable. It releases potassium as it biodegrades.
TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Roberts, Hi! Thank you! I got great advice from many places on the internet on how to do it, so that grow is a testament to how much helpful information is simply shared all over the place by awesome stoners!๐Ÿ˜‡ LOL!๐Ÿ˜‚ Yes, the coco coir club seems rather small. Hard to get info about it at first. CocoforCannabis saved me for life. I mean, when a pile of dirt isn't a pile of dirt at all. Haha. Coco is more daily work because I have to water twice a day. But then again, it becomes a routine, so you become less likely to F the thing up. If you mess up a feed's' numbers (ph/EC), it's okay, the next feed in 12 hours will fix it! And since you water twice a day, you're in front of the plant twice a day, so you get to do more work on it (defoliation/LST/etc.) No nutrients in the medium, so no X factor comes and ruins your grow. I hear soil COMES with bugs sometimes. No thanks. Apartment buildings already have plenty of those. lol. And finally, since coco is a quasi-hydro medium, you prolly also get better yields. So coco coir is my religion. Can't wait to figure out how to efficiently and effectively do automatic watering someday. Did you have a different name a few months ago. I feel like you've answered one of my questions before or something. Just wondering. Thanks again! Have a great grow day!

TinyTenter
TinyTentercommented3 years ago
@Freddd, Just keep checking the trichs. Are you using 30x or 60x? I thought I had a lot of clear until I figured out how to get the 60x mag to work with the led light so that I could see the trichs correctly. I immediately noticed she was pretty cloudy actually. I'm in flush now. So a few more days. Prolly Day 96 she gets chopped. I think sometimes a long grow means a good yield is coming relative to your situation. There's a given pot size, root ball and main trunk coming out of the soil. If you configure your plant to yield more, it's going to take longer for the plant to get things done all other things being equal, maybe? I dunno. I'm a rookie. Good luck, bud! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Š
