Everything is going wonderful! Round 3 is off to an amazing start. I am going to be doing things a little different this round by growing sea of green & starting to breed!
The conditions have been pretty ideal 77°F & 77-81%rh. My substrate is Aurora Innovations Roots Organic Formula 707 Soil. I germinated directly in the substrate using 2x3in biodegradable pots. I managed 100% germination this round! It did require some gentle work to remove some of the helmet heads.
I will be putting those biodegradable pots straight into 1 gallon final pots. Hopefully this will essentially eliminate any transplant shock as I will not remove the soil from a pot. I intend to veg for 1-2 weeks & then switch to flower.
The Golden Tiger x Panama are female, the Malawi are female, the Honduras are regular.
I intend to begin breeding with the Honduras this round. My intention are to cross Honduras with Malawi & with the GT x P. I will also collect pollen from my the Honduras male of my choice for future breeding. I have started & will continue to educate myself in order to understand how to breed stable lines over time. No (intentional ;) ) pollen chucking in this tent! Based on the spread of Honduras I will be as selective as possible. I only have 10 seeds so hopefully I will get lucky with phenos & 1-2 weeks veg will give me enough time to determine growth size & structure.
I bought all these seeds from Canna Pot and all these great strains are available thanks to ACE Seeds "The Cannabis Breeders Association"!
(If you see this, offer your breeders packs on cannapot, I will buy them 👍)
Another great week of gardening!
Nutrition: All of the first weeks nutrients are in the coco. The nutrient mix I supplied is what I started feeding today.
Temperatures were pretty consistent throughout the week. The humidifier was not seated properly on one occassion leading the humidifier to leak & humidity to get up pretty high.
Ph initially posed a slight challenge, I struggled to get correct PH to begin & I may have been a little hjgh, I like close to 5.8 for this primarily peat based coco mix I am working with.
There are a couple of the seedlings that were & are still showing some signs of stress... I am thinking either the pH imbalance I mentioned or overwatering contributed to the poor health of Honduras 5, Malawi 3, & Malawi 5.
Malawi 3 & 5 appear to be stressed.
Honduras 5 appears to be stunted compared to the group.
Malawi 4 appears to be mutated. Rather than sprouting its typical first set of true leaves, it sprouted 1 first deformed almost webbed leaf with points close to the base & 1 three finger first true leaf!
The babies have been transplanted... they grow up so fast 😪 🤧 😩
Hopefully I will update you all next week with photos of some healthy green plants that will be going into flower at the end of week 2!
Another wonderful week of growth! Experienced a few opportunities to stress test the kids this week.
High humidity at times in the 80% range and reaching a peak of 90%. A few plants are showing signs of nutrient deficiencies while most are thriving. I believe I will do A natural level of stress testing in the form of less than ideal conditions coming on throughout the grow. Probably won't torture test...
Tonight I switched them into a light cycle of 11/13 as recommended for these stretchy sativas. This will add an additional provided stress factor as I am forcing the plants to flower early.
I also defoliating the bottom nodes & first finger leaves of pretty much all the plants. I decided to hold off on defoliating up further as I will purchase a cloner and start pruning from the bottom nodes for clones once they reach 3 inches.
I fed at a ratio of 3-1-2 according to my calculations. I believe I will increase the amount of cal mag earlier on in the future & potentially increase potassium by feeding at 3-2-2.
I intend to adjust my feed throughout this week to reflect a 4-4-4 ratio at a target EC of 1150, slightly stronger than what I am feeding now. I will slightly increase calmag, micros, & phosphorus.
Part of me wants to buy colloidal silver or silver thiosulfate & get started trying to produce feminized seeds right away but then again, I could wait. baby steps
I am slowly working on creating a flower space in my garage for the males as they get closer to releasing pollen.
Thank you all for tuning in! I will spend some time looking through some of the wonderful diaries you all publish on here tomorrow. I hope you all enjoy this week. Be sure to stay tuned to my previous 2x4 diary as I will be posting my smoke report soon! 🚬 😤 💨
Another wonderful week of growth!
Switched to flower on Day 16. I have read in different places that it is recommended to switch these stretchy sativas into flower 15 days from seed. I have also learned that adopting an 11/13 light cycle is ideal for these landrace sativas.
Great growth over the last week, some of the tallest plants are nearing 2 feet now. One Malawi plant is still struggling, while it has made somewhat of a comeback I have not done anything to assist it. I may mix a nutrient batch specific to that plant or I may just let her work with what I am feeding the rest & hope for the best.
Started light defoliation this week. I have defoliated 2 times over the course of the week. I removed the lowest flower sights first & removed/bent fan leaves that were blocking flower sights. I also removed leaves pointing inward to the main stem.
I am debating whether or not I should top my plants that have stretched away to help keep the Canopy even throughout the rest of the flower cycle.
I have been feeding at a ratio of 4-4-4 and will likely continue to do so throughout the flowering stretch. I have a small space for 1-3 males with a 300w CFL that I intend to transition my males to before they release pollen.
Thank you guys for all of your praise & feedback. Stay tuned & grow along with me! I will be sure to check out some of the other gardens in the community throughout the week!
Pheno hunting: So far I have a couple of Honduras males & females I will be utilizing for breeding. These plants have great structure, very strong vigorous growth, the odors are strong on some of myrcene & terpinolene from what I am smelling on some while one has some more unique scents being released(slightly more floral & spicy like cinnamon), these chosen are also showing sex first & one female has shown pistils within the past few days.
Another great week of growth in the books...
Overall conditions were pretty consistent with the exception of a few hot days, some humid & some dry. I had the lights a little too close to the tops at one point exuding additional stress onto the stretchy ones. I also trained the tops of those stretchy ones over. Not an insane amount of stress. I intend to continue to increase the intensity of the lights gradually.
Culled 3 of my unwanted males leaving me with 2 breeder males. I will ultimately keep 1. Vigorous growth, unique scent to the group, Not the tallest, but good structure. Sexual maturity was reached the quickest or relatively quickly. I am hunting for terps, something that can ultimately be grown indoors, shorter stalker varieties, those showing sex fastest or faster than the late sativas, while maintaining structure.
Plants are mostly around 2 feet in height, a couple shorties & the stretchy ones are being trained to allow the others to catch up...
Happy growing!
All is good here growmies! Been a little busy between work, life, harvesting pollen, tending to the flowers, & I also play club rugby...
Grow is still going all good. Bought an inkbird humidity controller to step my humidity control game up! The plant stress continues... I put the flowers to the test with high humidity & high heat/low humidity.
Overall another great week! On a sad note im all out of Golden Tiger x Panama 😢 😭 Great smoke, I tried to switch it up as much as possible but I really enjoy strong sativas & I did enjoy those rotten terps. 😃 So it's Durban Poison & White Widow for now...
Sup! Another great week... I introduced the trellis net & trained the branches to give myself a nice even canopy... There are definitely some stragglers down low.
I removed & culled my breeder male and have been harvesting pollen. I did a good job of controlling the pollination of my crop in the sense that the seeds being produced are all from the pollen of the breeder male up to this point.
I failed in the sense that I wanted to have a more controlled pollination where I would only pollinate my choice breeder female/s. The most important thing to me though is the Grade of the seeds that I will produce 😉 I will have plenty of seeds & likely no sinsemella 😢
I still need to take the time to get a better understanding of the cannabis plants' prenatal nutrient requirements. I am still feeding at 4-4-4 through early flower and will eventually switch to 2-8-4 pending research...
Working to collect as much pollen as possible for back crossing in the future. Oh yeah, and I took clones of my choice moms so I will be attempting to monster crop these ladies to keep my Honduras parents alive! Cheers everybody, enjoy!
I will try to keep posting! I have been busy growing now that I have the Mars Hydro 2x4 in veg with the Wild Thailand fems.
I'm working on finishing these girls in my new AC Infinity 4x4.
Just having fun! Damn these pure sativas take long! Had to hit the dispensary for the first time since started gardening 😢
I started cutting out nitrogen a little earlier than I should have. I will likely not cut out nitrogen in the future or wait until later.
Other than that all is going good. The flowers are growing!
Starting to get some mature seeds from the ladies.
I also found 4 seeds in the "Love Dust" I picked up at the dispensary. Nothing super special, Sativa hybrid citrus tasting variety, not bad, I am enjoying it & was excited when I found some free seeds! 😀
Good luck with your grow I hope you get the best taste of buds and healthy plants! Take care and stay lit! I will drop by sometimes to check on your process! Say hello if you ever visit my page!
Greetings from L.S.T 🙏🏼🌟
@JamMAKEcan, Mars Hydro 2x4 & it is gonna be stuffed! I'm gonna veg for 2 weeks tops & depending on how many males I will probably end with less than 17...
Thanks for dropping by!
