Learnt a lot in the first 2 weeks. Too much water, not knowing when to start with nutrients etc meant it was growing very slowly and not looking very happy to begin with. Thanks to the growing community, all of these issues were fixed pretty quickly.
Week 3 with the help of the community I have sorted out most of my issues that have been holding this little plant back. New growth is looking happy, if still a bit slow at this stage.
At day 27 I transplanted into it's final container (5 gallon fabric pot that I filled 3/4 of the way because I didn't have enough coco). Attempted mild LST but was too scared of snapping my plant to bend it as much as I could have.
Day 23 everything for my tent arrived and the plant moved into its nicely lit new home.
Still growing away nicely. Wish I had this kind of growth from the start, but stuffing up is how we all learn right? At day 39 I topped the plant.
Also to note I started this grow in the middle of winter so keeping the tent warm whilst the light is off has been a major struggle. This plant has handled the cold like a champ!
The plant continues to bush out nicely and thanks to topping I seem to have a nice even canopy forming! This week I changed to 12/12. I like to think this was the first week or flowering, but much to my horror I discovered a light leak in the tent that I am certain would have held the plant back from really starting the flowering stage. I like to think I didn't waste this week, and merely prepared the plant for what was to come.
I ordered an elastic grid with the idea of trying to SCROG, however I chose to place the grid quite low on the plant to try and help spread the branches out prior to flowering as things seemed to be a bit crowded.
Now that I have moved to 12/12, the plant has responded and has started stretching nicely to get ready to produce those big buds!
While it hasn't started flowering yet, this is the week I decided I needed to add a proper ventilation system as the entire house was starting to stink up and I was struggling to get my RH below 70%. This took a lot of experimenting as I found with the filter and fan sucking air from within the tent was far too efficient, and with it still being quite cool outside, temperatures within the tent really struggled to get above 16'C.
As this was only a cheap fan with no speed control, I helped this by moving the fan outside of the tent, extending the ventilation tubing to 2 metres long and having it blow through the filter rather than suck. This lowered its efficiency and CFM enough that temperatures in the tent are stable at 20'C again, but enough air is still circulating for everyone to be happy. Also the entire house no longer smells of weed.
What an exciting week this has been! I've made it this far and flowering is in full swing. The next few weeks will be a big learning curve. Still struggling to tackle my RH problems, averaging 60% with lights on.
As things were getting way too bushy, I defoliated quite a lot of growth and removed a lot of lower branches. Lets hope that energy is focused where it matters.
As silly as it sounds, I am so proud of my little plant and how well it is coming along! Just look how frosty it is with weeks of flowering to go still!
I think I'll be ordering a dehumidifier soon though, I'm averaging 60% RH lights on and 75% lights off, and the idea of mould scares me.
Still just flowering away this week. Buds are slowly starting to swell up and the first bit of orange is starting to show! Hopefully only a few more weeks now and it'll be ripe for the picking.
100 days, what a milemark! Hopefully only another 2 or so weeks and we'll be very close to harvest time.
Note - having cats and growing sticky ass weed is quite the problem.
Getting very close to the end now (I think?). Looking at giving it 1 more week, then 48 hours of darkness and then that's it. Going to wait and see what the trichomes do first though.
I'm hoping this to be my last week. Started dropping nutes down over a few days and now nothing but pH'd water. Trichomes are mostly cloudy with some just starting to go amber. Do I wait longer or give it 48 hours of darkness now and then chop?
Alright so be it bro science or not, it's time for 48 hours of darkness and then the chop. I've been giving it just plain water for a week, and there's a nice little bit of fading happening so hopefully it'll be nice and smooth.
Being my first grow I don't have much to compare it to, but I was able to grow it following nothing but advice on the internet so it must be pretty easy! Had no issues with mould, pests, disease etc which was awesome!
I tapered down the nutes for the last week and nothing but a few days of plain pH'd water at the end. Realistically I could have waited a few more days as trichomes were mostly cloudy with something like 10% amber. The buds are hanging to dry now for a week so I will keep you all updated.
So about a week and a half ago (day 110ish) I chopped off a small bud from the bottom of the plant and gave it a dodgy quick dry over a few days as I was curious to how it was coming along, and let me say, it has been years since I last smoked and all I had was a single, tiny bowl and it hit a lot harder than I expected a 1:1 CBD strain to. I'm excited to try this out properly!
I've got to be honest, I felt like a monster cutting down this plant. Weeks of tending to it's every need and I've got to be the one to end it all. I think I'd grown too attached. I've actually left a small amount of growth on the plant and I'm going to stick it outside with my other grow and see if it'll re-veg and live on in my garden.
Hey! Happy growing my friend! I hope you do well and get some good results! I will come by sometime to see your progress! Keep on growing!
