Germination

First time germinating with this clone done. Normally used Saran Wrap but I was able to get some more supplies during the lockdown. This soil mix is roughly based on the legendary Clackamas Coots mix. The soil is mostly sphagnum peat moss with rice hulls for aeration. The rice hulls contain silica which contribute to a stronger stalk which makes them naturally tougher and more resistant to pests. Added to the mix is worm castings to add microbial life. The final ingredient is malted barley the barley is a seed and this contains enzymes. These enzymes break down offering nutrients to the microbes which in turn become plant available nutrients. First time using barley. Excited to see what they do! P.s. amended 4-4-4 organic dry amendments and alfalfa meal for the added triacontanol a natural hormone which will aide in growth. The amendments won’t be available until the microbes break them down. By the time the plant is hungry they will have plenty of food without fear of being burned. The joy of organics is the plant only eats what it needs as it needs it. Thanks for reading my novel haha hope you enjoy the journal!

The seedlings sprouted about 5 days ago. I have a fan on them as they sit under a bigger plant to protect them from the strength of the direct light. So far they look happy and healthy. Not much to report on other than the fungi/bacteria seem to be doing well and I imagine symbiotically working with the seed to ensure everyone is happy in the little ecosystem. After mixing the malted barley into the soil the fungi was present within 24 hours! The enzymes from the barley will protect and allow the seedlings to flourish. Any tips are always welcomed! - Nollie

I'm currently working with the Electric Sky 300. it's a powerful light and last harvest I burnt my plants in flower. to prevent any incidents this time around I deiced to err on the side of caution and lower the power. The result was a little stretch but now I know I can increase a little more without scorching the seedlings.

Last week's pics showed the seedlings stretched. I increased the output of the light this week and within a few days, they looked much happier. I'm starting to find the balance of just the right amount of light! So far only feeding water as the soil and microbes are doing all the heavy lifting. Thanks for checking it out! :) - Nollie

Inoculated my soil with some castings from a garden store. To my dismay the castings was infested with fungas gnat larve! I spent the week using yellow sticky traps and predatory mites to cull the numbers. A few days later fungus gnat sightings have been greatly reduced! - Nollie
