I would strongly advise against removing any leaves from a plant that size, she needs every leaf she has to be making the energy she needs to grow.
The new growths are relying on those leaves to make the energy they need to be able to grow!
I am very anti defoliation - if the plant would not need those leaves, it would not grow them in the first place!
At this size/age, even one fan leaf is a large percentage of "energy making ability", so removing any will slow growth due to the lack of energy making potential.
Your plant will grow its biggest and fastest with all of its leaves left on the plant, to make energy for that growth.
Just remember -
Less leaves = less energy = less growth.
It is that simple!
Your plant has evolved into a finely tuned growing machine based on efficiency. Removal of leaves is not part of your plants' plans.
Try and only remove yellow leaves, for by the time they are yellow, they have served their purpose.
In the mean time, try leaving every green leaf she has, to make the energy she needs to grow her biggest and fastest.
Hope this helps, Organoman.
