Week One Down
Time for Acclimation Nutrients!
Could have turned the heat pad off a couple days earlier - starting to think that they just aren't worth the effort. Seems like if you have all your ducks in a row, it isn't needed - though it does present issues if left on after roots pop out the rockwool. Root rot / lockout etc. Trading an extra day (if that?) for potential problems? Ya, that doesn't make sense to me. I will test the next grow without and most likely stop using.
Seedlings are ready!
Just waiting another day and a half for the SuperSilverHaze OG to finish flushing in the 8x4, and then these gals will get transplant
~~~~~~~~~~
Seedling has been transplanted! Looking very healthy, and hungry! 🚀
Gals are fixing to explode in their new homes! 🚀🚀🚀
~~~~~~~~~~
Root Zone temperature has been climbing a little higher than preferred, and stunting growth a tad (accordion-like leaves) they stop caring once they get a certain size/root mass going on, and I drop the water level (less water to cool). Its these cold packs - they are not perfect unfortunately. Next grow I will be assembling my own Dutchy system, with a water chiller - so it won't be an issue after this one 😀
Time for more nutes! Roots are about to take off 🚀🚀🚀 (The last two days has shown a huge uptick in growth!)
We are about one week behind due to the last grow taking a little longer than expected - but all seems fine. Water could be chilled a little better, but with dropping the water level, it shouldn't matter anymore as with my previous grows. Microbe parties are starting to show themselves.
Water level is now at 3g (2'' from netcup) - future grows I will be using smaller buckets for the first two weeks of veg, so as to save some time/effort/monies (2-3.5gl buckets)
Will be time for LST / Tie-Downs soon!
Allowing them grow into 15'' from lamp from here on.
~~~~~~~~~~
Top / Defol Time! Could wait a bit longer but they are starting to look a little cramped so I jumped on it now. Not getting enough airflow on the end so I threw in another small fan to keep things circulating!
Took off the two bottom sets of fan leaves / larf. All set to start stretching a bit! Roots are exploding!
Decided to train them the same as the OG kush in my first grow - two tops, off 4 sets of branches, instead of the typical three tops off 2 sets of branches. This should save us a week (although less stable - this grow I'm hoping all will be relatively the same height and allow for a trellis! Otherwise its back to Rope / Ties / Yoyo's!)
~~~~~~~~~~
Mornings / Nights are starting to get cold here in MO, and being up in a 2nd story room - temperature's have started to hike into the 80's. I let it go for awhile but now its pushing 90.
Time to switch back to venting the AC directly into the tent space* & get back down to 76-82f.
Gals have been a bit mad at me the last week or so (the indoor heat is making things a bit stuffy as we head towards colder weather). But alas - a little temperature correction, some new air pumps, and we are back on track! 🌱🚀👌
For those who didn't follow my previous grows - I use a relief duct to keep away too much positive pressure when venting the AC directly into the grow space. Yes we are positive, but only slightly. Fan in front of the duct for when it rains and the RH spikes - turn on the fan and get it back down to where I need it, cloth cover over duct when the fan is not in use.
~~~~~~~~~~
Last round of tie downs!
All set for some veg-stretch!
Upcoming Defoliation, and some LST by hand, to help further open up the satellite branches.
Up till now I have only taken a couple center leaves as I go, as well as implemented some good ole leaf tucking - to help keep the plants from becoming too cramped, or worse case - create a stagnant pocket of air & allow for powdery mildew!
Its all pretty pictures from here :)
~~~~~~~~~~
Lost a satellite branch on this gal unfortunately. I will have to ease up on the plant-ties in the future when using the 5gal bucket system. Moving the net-cups as often as you need to puts lots of pressure on those plant ties & branches. If I didn't have to move them, she likely would have been just fine. But no worries! This small amount of stress should go unnoticed. (Food for thought* the branch it was on will actually - most likely - end up the tallest of the remaining 7....Immune response, boosted growth - think about it.)
~~~~~~~~~~
Defol! Bye bye lower canopy.
Did away with another layer from the bottom - bye bye larf!
If all goes well we may flip to flower next week!
Tie downs come off in a couple days!
~~~~~~~~~~
Since Its sitting empty, we threw this gal into the 3x2 - make things easier when it comes time to swap buckets. I am VERY restricted on space outside of the tent, so I can really benefit from some extra space inside the 8x4. Much less stress on the gals, since I have more space to maneuver! I'll be moving into a bigger place this next tax season and will then have much more space!
One more week and we flip to flower!
Defol / Lollipop coming soon!
~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, decided to go ahead and flip these gals now - so as to avoid getting too close to lamp after stretch! Lollipop, and we're on our way!
Should have done this with nute swap saturday. But no worries, just threw in some Koolbloom, and adjusted PH. Will fix PPM listed above when these are drained and we're back on the spreadsheet with less Gro.
Since swapping to the smaller tent I've been spraying her a few times a day, supplement some humidity and offer some reprieve from the LEDs.
Little cramped, but otherwise doing well!
~~~~~~~~~~
Small defol, make room for some airflow / light
Starting to get pretty close to lamp - if the foliage starts to dry out and suffer, I may consider some HST to help stave off the remaining flower-stretch.
No more Root Stimulator
Last week for Silica
Defol time! Started to get a little too cramped, cleaned her back up for light pen / airflow! Will also help push some pistil production.
Little bit of LST (bend), help position some satellite branches.
Chopstick wedge! I should have adjusted my tie downs another time or two and let this gal open up more in veg - but alas, no worries. There is an efficient / quick fix, for just about everything 😄
If your curious as to how / what I did, its simple. Find an old node from a defoliated branch/leaf. If its not naturally bent inward - cut the rest off - you can even poke a tiny hole to get it started. Size your wedge* and slide it in place.
~~~~~~~~~~
Managed to raise and squeeze a couple more inches out of my lights. Getting close! Worse case I'll HST and bend some tops (light bend till light snap, then hold 30 seconds-ish). Help slow down the remainder of stretch like I did the RudeBoi OG.
No more Silica
Doubled up Liq. KoolBloom
~~~~~~~~~~
Midweek I noticed a couple bananas!!! 😩
The Vivosun Tent continues to disappoint. The edges of the Velcro window started to curl on me after a couple months, and I never really took note of just how much...Enough to let some light in and herm this gal!
Only a handful of pollinated pistils to be found, I gave the tent a good spray down with water - and I have not seen any more bananas in the last 72 hours. Fingers crossed we caught it early! I covered the light leaks with tape for the remainder of the grow - I will not be using a vivosun tent again.
~~~~~~~~~~
Some red hairs popping up. Hard to tell if they are natural reds, or pollinated - most likely the later. Time will tell - still no signs of any more banana's fortunately.
Also appears to be some light stress, was hoping that I was juuust far enough away to not see any, but there it is. Was hoping she would just foxtail on me, but is looking like soon-to-be banana's - my only options are to dim the lights a good 30% or more, OR implement some HST on the topmost nugs. Since she hermed on me once already that is not the preferred option, but if left alone she would herm anyway. If I dim the lights, the smaller White Widow in the tent will have some smaller nugs, and she is already a bit of a runt.
Gave her a closer look and some leaf tips are drying out a bit - so I went with dimming the LEDs (down to 70%). Will be interesting to see how well she does under the circumstances - buds are stacking up nicely! Tweezer & water bottle on hand in case the topmost nugs do shoot out some bananas.
Lots of red pistils coming in - not nearly as many pollinated as I once thought. 🙏
Little bit of foxtailing, but no banana's! Seems to be doing well at -30% on the LED's
Buds are coming along nicely!
Added an additional week to ripen @ last week's dosage - switched to the above dosage midweek.
~~~~~~~~~~
Trichomes are looking pretty cloudy. I guestimate a week tops and it will be time for flush!
Alien Rock Candy (Feminised Photoperiod)
~Seedsman Limited Edition~
80/20 Indica Dominant ~ Sour Dubble / Tahoe Alien
Flowering Time: 49-63 Days
20-24% THC
.5-1.5% CBD
~~~~~~~~~~
This stuff looks and smells fantastic! Some nice sized cola's, CRAZY color, and absolutely covered in trichomes!
~~~~~~~~~~
We flowered with 1 XS2000 - split the garden between two tents for easier access mid-grow. Diary won't allow for adjusting so the stats are a little off.
This gal started out in the 8x4, but eventually I moved her into the 3x2 to save some space and make swapping out buckets easier every other week (when they get big, it gets hard to do so without damaging colas)
Came to find out that the Vivosun tent lets in light after a while. The corners of the Velcro window curl over time - be warned! (tape up the inside with HVAC) Lead to this gal putting out some banana's, I luckily caught it the day of - found the light leak and covered it. Crisis averted!
I did very much appreciate the extra space, but it did however put this gal too close to lamp! Nothing crazy close, but enough to cause some noticeable light stress on our foliage - but no hermies! I dropped the turn dial to 75% and she did just fine.
~~~~~~~~~~
During this grow I was forced to constantly changed out air stones! The 3 sets I have are very clogged with photo plus. This led to an oxygenation system that was constantly back n forth, up n down. I'm fairly certain this is why all my plants took a little longer this time around and weren't quite what they could have been - hard to do much when your being choked!
I will be switching to Southern AG for the next grow - looking like I will be staying in DWC for a little while and trying out some hydrobuckets with my current system unchanged - but with the ability to trellis! I will be moving and will then have full access to my tent from both sides. I will also adjust my feed chart a bit (I need to redo it, for some reason my excel spreadsheets disappeared)
Halfway thought this grow I stopped filling to 2'' below the netcup. So as not to waste so much - Now I start my two weeks at the netcup, and let it drain. I fill when one bucket has emptied enough that I cannot let it go another day - and from here I am now topping off at ONE to TWO gallons so as to not waste so much. You do not need to be 2'' from the netcup at all times - in fact, staying below and letting it drain creates small amounts of drought stress and naturally BOOSTS root growth. Let it drain!
~~~~~~~~~~
All in all - a pretty successful grow! Getting all the kinks ironed out and it's looking like this system of DWC will do me well. Next couple grows I will be dialing in my recipe a bit, trellising!, and will look to improve upon my stress training.
Unfortunately, due to the heat being on in my place my dry as way faster than desired - should have thrown in the humidifier!
{1st QWISO}: 2.7gs - using a half jar of sugar leaves w/a couple premature buds from both this gal and the Rudeboi OG (pressed, no shred)
{2nd QWISO}: 1.9gs - using all remaining trim from both this gal and the Rudeboi OG (~half jar after running it through the trim bin for keif) The first run was a little heavy on the chlorophyl for my taste, so for this one I shortened my wash time to 2 minutes, w/minimal stirring.
A little more weight to her than anticipated (117.2g / 8g kief), wasn't sure I would see a qp with this gal. The top colas had some nice weight to them!
