This will be my third grow with Sour Stomper. So far it's my favorite Mephisto strain to grow and smoke so I'm excited as always! Trying to get my autoflower perpetual grow going so I should be starting a new diary every 2 weeks.
Day 2 - She broke soil after only a day of being planted.
Day 3 - Working on getting that seed shell off.
***Switching from 24-0 to 20-4 lighting schedule***
Day 4 - Struggling to get the seed shell off. Still making progress though.
Day 5 - I gave in and manually removed the seed shell. It sure was stuck on there! One cotyledon is punctured in the middle and the first set of leaves looks very yellow on the edges so we'll see if she pulls through.
Day 6 - Looks like the first set of leaves grew a little overnight and the discoloration on the sides is going away. It's going to be a slow start but I think she's going to make it.
Day 9 - She's looking stunted/underdeveloped for day 9, probably due to the seed shell not wanting to come off. I think she'll make it but growth is still very slow at the start of week 2.
Day 11 - The leaves are growing slowly but I don't see any new growth towards the center. Going to give it a few more days but this one might be a loss.
Day 16 - Very stunted, the new growth in the middle looks burnt on the edges too. I've never had anything like this happen and I've been using FFOF for a while, even completed an auto or 2 with soil from the same bag. I'm going to keep her alive for science but this looks like a loss to me.
Day 21 - Still technically alive...
Day 22 - She's still alive and the leaves are swirling into a mangled mess. I wonder if she'll flower? Most of my autos have started flowering around the start of week 4 so I'll keep an eye on her.
Day 30 - Some interesting stuff here. It seems that because the middle growth suffered so much that the successful side-branches have reacted like the plant was topped and I now have 3 pretty sturdy side branches. The main stem below is still pretty flimsy but the branches above are looking better!
Day 32 - Today I noticed that the pre-filter for my carbon filter was basically 100% blocked/clogged and almost no air was coming from my exhaust duct. I completely removed the pre-filter for now and it's made a huge difference. I plan on cleaning and replacing it but for now this will do. I also added a small fan near one of the passive intakes to help with airflow. I'm hoping that poor air circulation was a major contributing factor to my recent stunted seedlings.
Day 37 - She's flowering! Side-branching is just just now starting to develop. Small plant with way too much veg time but I'm excited to see how the buds develop with the interesting structure of the plant. It's a mess at the bottom!
Day 44 - So pleased with how this plant turned out! Although it took a while to get to flowering I'm excited to see how the 3 main stems affect the harvest/yield.
Day 51 - Wow this plant is tall! 26 inches! Tons of budsites all over it. Just finished trimming up my Auto WWxBB so a little too lazy to set up the good camera, phone pics for today.
Day 54 - Looking good!
Day 58 - I'd expect the buds to be bulking up by now but it looks like they still have a little while longer before they start swelling. Gave her the first feeding this morning, half strength Tiger Bloom. We'll see how she does, usually the FFOF + Tiger Bloom is too hot but she spent a lot more time in veg than usual.
Day 65 - Buds are very frosty but not much weight to them. Identical feeding/medium to my other Sour Stompers. Maybe the root system isn't developed enough to support the 3 main stalk that grew from the early stunting. Tons of bud sites, just lil bits.
This plant was extremely runted with some serious deformations to start but I decided to let it grow. Not very large buds this time but very dense and covered in trichomes. Great daytime smoke with a delicious grape flavor.
This plant started out extremely runted and deformed but I decided to let it grow and see what happens. Because the middle growth was so messed up the plant basically topped itself into 3 main stems. Although the structure seemed beneficial the buds didn't get very big as compared to the other Sour Stompers growing alongside it. Still expecting them to be potent and dense, will update with more numbers after the dry.
Hey, in my experience, a seed getting stuck doesn't impact growth at all.
You may be dealing with a "hot" potting mix; meaning that your mix is high in nutrients.
This can lead to slow growth and nutrient burn; I believe that's what I'm seeing in the picture of day 9.
Another tell tale sign of a hot mix is when your young leaves are dark green in colour, although this can be associated with phenotype; I don't think this is the case for you.
What mix are you in?
@SunBeam, Thanks for the insight! I'm growing in Fox Farm Ocean Forest but I've run Sour Stomper in it 4 times before this with no issues. Still, the coloring of the leaves does point to nutrient issues. The darker color seems to be fading to the edges of the leaves with a more healthy green in the center but growth is still very slow.
I had a few of mine do that also 1 blackberry and 2 Gorilla Glue mine didnt make it tho i would slack off on the lights till she shakes back i would try a 12 hr just till she recovers stressing a auto isnt bad but the seedlings stress is a killer hopefully she pulls thru good luck on this grow 🍻🍻🍻
Hey, always glad to help!
I know a lot of growers have stopped using Fox Farm; it's NOTORIOUS for being too " hot" of a mix.
I believe it's a lack of consistency on their end; which is why some growers have no issues, and others roast their seedlings.
I've also read growers make a lower Ph argument for FFOF, stating that it needs to be just right or you'll experience issues. ( I don't agree with this though)
Essentially you have to ride this one out, and perhaps in future try another mix.
Best of Luck .
@MUDBUG,
I totally agree with all of this.
Potting mix is really a personal preference! You can grow a quality crop in almost all department store mixes.
@herewegrow, I did a grow with bio bizz its a good lite mix soil same agenda go straight water first 10 14 days i only use a root booster voodoo juice are rizz from canna u will need calmag with bio and the ph cant swing alot she will lock u out if u want a simple grow with out to much worry on soil go coco u know exactly wat u putting in to feed her and imo DISTILLED WATER there is a 0 ppm so u can fine tune your ppm and the main thing is PH people overlook this as other problems when its a PH problem hope this helps u out👍👍🍻🍻💲💲
