Now that summer is over, I'm starting up a Night Owl Sage Scout run!
Time is my commodity atm so this will not be nearly as detailed as my last diary (Milk & Qookies) so if you're a first time grower in RDWC, check out that diary!
About my setup: I built a custom two-site RDWC similar to PA Hydroponics. I made several mods and the system is running three air stones in the sites and one air stone in the reservoir and a final air stone reserved for the top off bucket once they start drinking. The air stones run across two 4-port air pumps for redundancy in case one goes out.
A few changes this run from last:
1. I painted the stands and fan boards this summer so they could easily be cleaned.
2. Use Microbial Mass - I've heard good things so I'm going to try the product. It will be a 20ml dose every two weeks because my system is about 40L and it calls for 0.5ml per liter every two weeks. Beneficials only live for 48 hours then begin to die off, but microbial mass uses metals to extend their life (from what I've read).
3. Since I'll be using microbial mass for beneficial bacteria base, I'll drop back on the Orca dose to twice a week which will serve mycorhize and added beneficials.
4. I'm going to use a combo of the CMH and HLG Rspec again this time for more light penetration. I'll get the CMH in earlier this time, around week 4 - as soon as the plants get big enough to transpire enough for optimal VPD.
5. I'll add the top-off bucket once they start drinking. Need to build a stand for the top off bucket.
6. Lastly, I found that last run there was some stalling drinking and eating for 1-3 days when I would change the water. I've determined once the roots are established, they create an ecosystem that stabilizes the water. I'm going to use that to my advantage. Here is how I see it: If I were to change the water 4 times between week 1 and week 6, that would be about 8-10 days of stalling or grow and another 8-10 days in flower of stall.
So this run, I'm going to set out to only change the water under two conditions.
A . When we switch to flower nutrients.
B. If the water quality degrades. To determine this, I'll sniff the res every few days. If it smells like fresh greens, we are good. If it smells like a dirty aquarium, we are not good.
Okay so here we go!

Sept 4, 2021 (I'll be starting day/week count from this germination date. )

Started the seeds in a paper towel, inside a dvd case, wrapped in a t-shirt, in my starter dome with a heat mat set at 28c, Sprouted in 48 hours. Put right into rapid rooters. Sprayed dome lid for 90% humidity at 28c.
@mangolinux420, Hey thanks for the inquiry. I did not upgrade the pump on this run, and I haven't even regretted it yet. The 250 is working great for a two-site setup! Thanks for checking out my diary! Happy growing!
@Blessed_With_Knowledge, Thanks for the encouragement! I find it's the one type of training I often doubt the most. There are so many moves that can be made during the training!
good to see you back at it! totally understand the 'time being a commodity thing. starting a new NightOwl grow as well (just popped today). happy growing friend π€
@MyWeedAccount, hey friend! lol yes! at least we will get that extra hour of time next weekend! π
i just checked out what you're growing next and I'm excited to see how they turn out! I grabbed 5 packs on the Halloween drop, including the SSB but I'm fully regretting not getting the QB and may have to pick it up at the banks.
Keep keepin your grows fun!
