was lazy starting this grow. Did not PH tap water resulting in high soil PH. I also have consistently low RH because I keep forgetting to fill the humidifier.
This week I have been dialing in the VPD more. I have been aiming for 70 degrees with ~65% RH.
Since I did not PH the water when they were seedlings the soil PH is excessively high - 7.5...ish. When I transplant I will start the soil slurries.
I fed 1000 ppms of Grow Big(2ml/l) alongside a healthy dose of big bloom(6tsp/l). May be overkill; however, ocean forest is "hot" so this should prepare them for whats coming. For the most part I am using the fox farm feeding schedule - just not mixing up gallons.
I am also not feeding every 24hr. I am feeding .5 litres/plant every 3 days
This week I have still primarily been dialing in VPD. Naturally the lung room is ~25% RH due to winter. For the most part the leaves have been drooping due to incorrect RH and when I took this weeks pictures attached to this log - wilted due to needing water.
Both plants responded incredibly well to the 1000ppm feeding. Gorilla Zkitz from barneys farm is going to be a hungry girl as she took off - leaving the Sour D a whole node behind.
I have transplanted into Fox Farm Ocean Forest. 2.5 Gal Fabric pots.
Going forward I will be allowing the roots to stretch out a few more nodes and then I will begin stressing them out. I am going to be topping roughly to the 3rd node or 4th node and main-lining. The goal is to get 8 tops. The girls will roughly be in these pots for another 30 days until they deplete the nutes in the soil at which time they will be transplanted into 5 gallon pots.
As for feeding I will primarily be feeding PH'd water alongside blackstrap molasses and Cal mag. Soil slurry tests will be used to determine PH.
Great white will be used every 2 weeks up until I flip to flower.
Since FFoF has potential to carry gnats I will also begin implementing my IPM. SF nematodes will be used to drench the soil. Yellow sticky traps on top of soil. I also will be spraying with Dr. Zymes when the lights go off.
This week took a while for the plants to bounce back from transplanting. I also should have soil slurried the first watering as the soil PH has been too high. You can attest to this by the yellowing of the leaves - either stressed from transplant or unable to uptake nutrients.
going forward I will continue to soil slurry the test - 2 tsp of soil and 4 tsp of non PH'd water.
I will continue to LST as this is preparing me for the mainline. I am waiting for the 3rd or 4th node to come in and I will top again.
The nodules at the bottom of the stalk will be buried once I transplant to the 5 gal fabric pots.
things are finally aligning and i feel as though we are really about to take off now.
I am currently at the 3rd node this week and next week I will be topping yet once again to get my 8 main colas.
I am noticing that the Sour Diesel will be extremely picky with feedings compared to Gorilla Zkittlez. I say this because I am noticing very slight tip curl and the growth is not nearly as explosive. I have not added any nutrients aside from SLF-100 and Great White combined with black strap molasses. The soil is Happy Frog Ocean Forest and that seems to be quite hot only for Sour Diesel.
I am unsure which plant is giving off a very nice mild odor, but I am going to guess it is the Barneys Farm Gorilla Zkittlez. Something smells sweet and pleasant. The odor is not permeating from the grow tent; I just get a very slight waft when I am in there watering and taking care of business.
I am still feeding 1 litre every other day. PH seems to be going in at around 6.3 and the soil PH seems to be roughly 6.7-6.8.
One thing I am wishing I would have taken note of was the run off with a TDS meter. This would have given me insight as to when I should transplant again. Lesson learned for the next grow I suppose.
I went ahead and topped at the 3rd node. I will wait until the end of this week to transplant as that would be too much shock for the plants. I am noticing a few deficiencies which is letting me know the nutes in the soil are almost depleted. I am also running out of room to train the plants. I do not believe the plants are root bound just yet. Once transplanted I will wait until I see more deficiencies and then I will begin to follow week 4 of Fox Farms Feeding Schedule.
-------
A lot was going on this week. I topped at the beginning of the week and transplanted at the end(4 day rest). They are now in their final homes; 5 gal fabric pots. (the tags were swapped for the pictures - I have changed them back. Sour D is green and GZkit is yellow)
I noticed some deficiencies so I went ahead and fed one feeding - roughly 1000ppm.
Going forward I will be topping the final nodes to complete the 8 main nodes. I will then be installing the scrog net. When I feel as though I have filled the 2x4 out I will switch to flower. I am unsure what to expect with the stretch, but I am going to push my limits this run.
I'm starting this week out with a light defoliation. I also decided to do a little LST. I am still waiting to top the nodes one final time. I am really hoping for the end of this week. stay tuned.
Last watering I fed molasses and great white. I have started this week with SLF-100. run off is low 6 and the soil slurry is coming back at 6.5 - I am putting 6.4 - 6.6 going until things stabilize.
---
Not too much to report for the end of this week aside from I cleaned up the Sour Diesel a little. When I decided to defoliate I accidentally topped some nodes and the growth was no longer uniform.
I am no longer confident in my ability to tame this strain. The reality behind the stretch is either genetic or the SF1000 is just not pushing out enough photons at the same height as the SF2000. I do not want lights hanging at different heights. I am sure I will overcome this.
Still waiting on more node growth for the final topping. I will continue to train and spread the canopy out until then.
I am hoping to flip to flower in another 30 days.
Barneys is doing great and thriving. I topped this Friday and now I just need to spread the canopy out before flower. I will also be attempting to dial in a feeding routine since the soil has been carrying me for two months.
Sour diesel has been a huge pain in the ass. I'm sure I stunted it when I tried to defoliate last week. I also topped it so many times because the node spacing is staggered. At this current moment I feel as though the genetics on this free bag seed is just not there. My plant looks sick and it is just not thriving. One fan leaf came out looking like a helicopter blade or like it was growing like the top of a palm tree. At this point this plant is now my guinea pig as I do not have high hopes of it being a high yeilder. Going forward I will not be defoliating high and during veg as I was bob rossing the shit out of the plant (happy little mistakes). Open sesame made the plant pop off, but the node spacing and symmetry went to shit.
Gorilla Zkittlez run off is 1800 and a PH of 6.2
Sour Diesel run off is 2.6 and a PH of 6.1
The PH may be off in the substrate for sour diesel - no telling. I will problem solve it before going into flower though.
Scrog has been implemented. Hopefully I can dial this in.
PH run off is low on Gorilla Zkittlez - 5.9 to 6.1 - highest I saw was 6.15 - 1000ml run off out of 1 gal
Run off for Sour Diesel is odd. run off read 3.2 EC and a PH run off 6.3 - 300ml run off out of 1 gal. The last time I fed anything was weeks ago so I'm not so sure why the EC went up - even with just water til runoff.
I only fed the gorilla zkittlez today. Sour diesel is still taking in water until the EC decides to start going down.
I went ahead and defoliated a little so the fan can circulate some air in there. This will give them a little to bounce back before the flip.
-Gorilla Zkittlez gave off some really funky leather and gas scent. By far the most powerful odor of the two
-Sour Diesel is not as pungent, but it also is having some issues. Mostly gas with a slight undertone of citrus
shouldn't be too much longer now until I flip to flower.
-Fix EC for Sour Diesel and fix PH for gorilla zkittlez. stabilize both and then we flip.
This week I flipped to flower. as of this update were aprox 5 days into flower.
I may have to water more frequently as both plants are taking in a gallon every other day and only 300 ml is running out. I do not want salt buildup so I may need to figure something out.
I also may have to dial back the neptunes kelp due to it lowering the soil PH quite drastically. The feeding chart I have suggests 1tsp of fox farms wholly mackeral, but if you google around there will be some charts that suggest 1/2. I may have to play around with it.
I am going to defoliate at day 14. There are a few bottom branches that have like 1 ft of stalk that is barely reaching the top canopy. The stretch is crazy.
As far as odors go
sour diesel seems to be weak. It is most certainly overpowered by the gorilla zkittlez. I am truly hoping this changes, but for a free seed - I can't be too mad.
I am unsure if the light distance may be an issue. I cannot raise it up any higher. I think I bit off more than I can chew by trying to push the limits. At least im not growing carpet though!
Things are chugging along. I am selectively defoliating the core to open up more bud sites. The RH is becoming a minor problem. I have noticed on some fan leaves there is sitting water due to lack of airflow and the plants transpiring. I do not want to introduce any mildews/molds into the tent.
I have officially ran out of room so i truly hope the stretch has ended. It seems as though I have gained at the very least an inch a day for the past two weeks.
I defoliated the base and anything that is not going to reach the top of the canopy.
Going forward I will be monitoring for light burn and attempting to bring the RH down.
Sour Diesel has shown very slight signs of nitro toxicity - this is evident on the curled down fan leaves. I have taken the grow big down by 5ml
Gorilla Zkittlez is still just chugging along and taking whatever I throw her way. Today of all days she does not look too well. I am unsure what is causing her to droop(probably VPD related).
The weeks are blending together and I am unsure if I defoliated this week or the previous week. Not much advancement on that objective, however, the canopy has evened out a little.
Sour Diesel still being picky with her food. Responded well to the 5ml grow big, but over-reacted to the 10 ml of tiger bloom and beastie bloomz. Under the canopy I have a few very brittle and dried out leaves. I am unsure if this is due to a nutrient lockout or nutrient excess. I am going to lower the tiger bloom to 5ml and see how well that fares.
The stretch has finally subsided and while I found 1 final inch; I am still uncertain whether or not I will be light burning the plants.
Gorilla Zkittlez is showing off as usual. Still no leaf clawing even with 10ml grow big. I did notice one leaf that looked to be magnesium deficient(rust spots) but that could be due to nutrient lockout when I dosed heavy with the beastie bloomz and tiger bloom. The leaves under the canopy do not seem to be near as bad as the sour diesel. I will most likely drop the tiger bloom by 5ml on both plants. I would also like to start reducing the grow big.
Water only days I use SLF and bud candy. Feeding days I will be using everything mentioned above - however, I will be adjusting the grow big and tiger bloom doses to 5ml/gal. I will not be defoliating any more just leaf tucking. Feeding days I feed 1 gallon of juice and water days I run 1.5 gal through them for the run off.
a lot has happened these past weeks. Found myself neglecting the plants for a week or two by putting them on the back burner. I have been having a rough time feeding sour Diesel. I cut back the nitrogen early and I was having issues with the PH at the roots. Probably burned it a little. I also have no fucking clue how I'm going to trim this. Even though it has gone through a lot and I most likely stunted it; it is finishing really well. The top colas that look like a fist are just stacking nicely with cones. I am going to assume this is consider fox tailing? no clue.
Gorilla zkittlez has been a beast throughout the grow. It has been my main priority and my pride and joy. Most of the feedings and waterings revolved around this plant. The smell is enticing.
I cannot decide which one smells more. My house smells like a nice sweet ground coffee that lingers from my tent. opening it up I am met with the gorilla zkittlez tropical/fruity aroma.
overall, I am pleased with the outcome. I am pushing these to 10 weeks minimum. The sour diesel may need longer - I will have to see how this plays out.
