Hello
This is my 4th diary entry and my 1st of 2022.
I’m mixing things up yet again with changes, many changes.
I use my office as a grow area, and I’ve been getting annoyed with the fan noise and smell while working.
Due to this I’ve decided to down size from a 120-60 tent with a Mars Hydro Sp3000 to a custom stealth grow cabinet with a Mars Hydro TS1000 (new version)
That’s the 1st change.
It’s an ikea PAX wardrobe carcass with fully air tight seams.
A 95CFM bathroom fan pulling into the top section via a 10cm - 35 cm carbon filter.
Air is pulled though the main grow area via two 100mm silent usb pc fans. 100CFM combined.
All fans are on independent speed controllers so I can balance the input/ output as needed.
With all fans on full, it’s almost silent from 10 feet away and the grow area is airtight so any airflow is via the carbon filter.
The 2nd change will be my grow medium.
I usually use biobizz light mix but I’ve always had issue with the changeover from veg to flower on my auto grows. There isn’t enough of a buffer in the soil and the dip in nutrients has caused issues.
Anyhow. I’m moving to 70% biobizz all mix in the bottom of the pot with light mix on the top couple of inches.
initially the plant won’t be able to handle the full goodness so this will hopefully mean it will start in the low nutrient top layer and as it grows to need more nutrients it will have them available in the all mix layer.
It may not work or it may not do anything but it’s worth a try.
3rd change
I’ll be using the full suite of biobizz nutrients for the full grow.
Usually I use part RQS and biobizz, so this time I’ll stick to one brand and one grow schedule, again, to mitigate this lull in nutrients at week 3-4.
4th change
I’m sticking with RQS seeds by trying Watermelon auto and stress killer Auto.
So, that’s my strategy for this grow. I’ll be keeping my bigger light and tend for other grows, but this is a side quest.
I dropped my seeds into a paper towel today, and pre wetted the grow medium.
Should get these guys in the cabinet by Wednesday 👍🏻
Week one, wow, that went fast.
Last Sunday, 7 days ago I placed two seeds in the closet to germinate. 7 days later they’re doing well in their new home.
As I’ve said in last weeks kick off post, I’m changing everything in this grow. Starting off with not leaving the seeds to germinate for too long in the paper towel.
Previously I took them out when they were around 2-3 cm long, but this time they’re were both around 1cm when they were placed in the grow medium.
A small change but I think previously they were a little stuck to the towel which may have damaged the early root growth. I could be talking shit but I’ll see how these little guys get on.
In the early weeks of a grow there isn’t much to show.
I’ve started following the biobizz feed schedule which is something I want to try for this grow. Usually I wouldn’t feed this early but that’s what it says so, I’ll follow along and see what happens.
Leaves are getting bigger so hopefully they’ll really start moving along this week.
Just following the biobizz feed schedule for all mix, band everything is going well.
It’s usually around week 4-5 that I have issues so fingers crossed we have better luck this time.
The light is on about 50% I need them to stretch up a bit. Also, now we have some big fan leaves it should rocket in growth this week.
The last few parts are starting to arrive for my grow cabinet. It’s working pretty well but these guys are already starting to small so I need to up my fan game.
The two pc fans were installed into the shelf and being fed fresh air from the back of the cabinet.
I don’t have the two drawers installed but when they’re in, they’ll hold all my growing stuff like snips, microscope, you know the stuff.
Anyhow. The plants are doing great. I’m enjoying the biobizz all mix, it’s a nice medium to work with than the light mix. Also continuing to follow their feed schedule which is going great. It’s usually this week, next week that I have issues but they look strong and health, so all good.
Starting to LST this week, and will do what I can to get light to the whole plant. The light is a bit too big for the grow space so I still only have it on 50% while trying to persuade them to stretch a little more.
Anyhow, that it for another week.
Just need the magnetic door catches and it will be complete.
Another week and both plant’s are doing really well.
No issues to report and still following the biobizz nutrient guide and using approx 500ml of water per watering every 3 day’s, or when needed.
It’s about this time when they really start to drink more so I’ll increase as needed.
The cabinet is doing well but I’m only using one fan for intake as the speed controller was shit. My plan was to use both fans and adjust the speed.
I’ll search for another controller and get that going asap.
I raised the light but increased it to 100%. It’s now at 65cm above the canopy.
LST is going fine. I’ve removed the wires for a few days to straighten the plants up and I’ll start spreading again as it hits flower.
Still learning but all is going as planned 👍🏻
The usual theme with my grows, no matter what nutrient strategy I use, I always have the yellowing on my lower leaves which is looking like a nitrogen deficiency.
I’m following the biobizz nutrient guide so I guess I just “up”the amount of bio bloom and see if it works.
Another week gone and I’ve hit a touch of over feeding. Two plants that I’ve been treating the same, and now it’s clear one likes less food than than the other.
I’ll need to adjust and feed one less as there is burning to the leaves.
Nothing major but it’s about now they’ll start to put on weight so I’ll take it easy for the next 3 weeks.
Both plants are growing well, and the cabinet is proving to be a nice environment for them. Maybe a touch too small for two plants but it should be ok.
It could probably benefit from being 6 inches or so deeper. Doesn’t sound much but it would help when I LST.
I could also use a slightly smaller tray but I’ll need to find some that fit.
That’s it for this week.
Another week gone and still not getting to the bottom of the leaf issues. Every grow goes the same way, yet every grow has had a different water and feed schedule, grow space and light. Don’t know what the issue is so starting with the basics.
I made some tea from worm castings left in water. They’ve both had a feed of this with a drop of cal mag to see if this does the trick, and helps the yellowing/ crispy leaves.
The tea should drop a dose of nitrogen into the soil
Other than that, I’m just getting on with the grow as normal as I estimate only 3 weeks left until harvest.
Welcome to week 9.
The two plants have responded really well to the worm cast tea and this will no be my go to method for dealing with nitrogen deficiency.
They’ve both perked up and didn’t lose many leaves which can be a real issue in my experience.
Both plants are in the final week of flower, so for the past week they’ve only had the worm tea with no additional nutrients.
I gave them a good water today with worm tea, and will give them plain water at ph 6.4 for the remaining time before harvest. I’d estimate this to be 7 days from now must I’ll check them in a few days and see how they look.
The image to took isn’t the best, but they’re milky with a few just changing to amber over the whole plant.
These have finished early, I was expecting another 3+ weeks but that’s fine. Looking forward to the weigh in.
Week 10 and I didn’t expect to get here with the plants still, ummmmm, planted 🤓
Last week I thought I’d have chopped them by now but I think I’ll give them a few more days.
They’re only on ph balanced water now so the leaves are getting used up pretty quickly. I just gave them a water so I’ll give them a day of light, two days of dark and then chop.
The buds are nice and firm so I’m quite pleased with this grow.
Learned a lot so it’s a positive.
The watermelon smells gorgeous, truly delicious 😋
Next post will have wet weights and the good old wet trim
Puff amigo tienes carencia extrema de calcio y intermedia de magnesio darlas el máximo que te recomiende el fabricante porque en breve se van a empezar a morir todas las hojas
Un saludo amigo
Much løve 💚
@Onandon,el principal problema es que el sustrato está muy húmedo y no pueden alimentarse las hojas hacen sierra debe de secarse para que puedan comer bien ente riego y riego
Ánimo amigo
Hi, in the RQS schedule the plant has 2 weeks of veg and 7 weeks of flo. Total weeks from germination to harvest: 9 weeks
I saw you had 5 weeks of veg.
I'm a really beginner and maybe I missed something, but seems too many weeks of veg.
So, what am I not understanding?
Thanks a lot and good luck with your grow
@DeepWaterGrower, best thing to do is just jump in and try it for yourself.
Just get the basics right like having a ph tester, aliexpress. Digital microscope also from Ali express. And get decent nutrients or for the 1st try. Go with RQS easy grow or something like that.
Once you’ve done it once, you’ll learn loads. You can’t prep for everything so experiment. The best equipment in the world won’t make you a good grower. I’m still shit and have decent great to use 😂. Good luck
@DeepWaterGrower, I’ve never had a plant fit in with the suggested RQS schedule. I maybe could have set my diary as “flower” a week earlier, but it’s correct for this grow, and align with my other grows.
Usually it’s closer to 12 weeks from germination to harvest.
@minibox,thanks man,
. It’s a bout 2 / 1.75 foot so I and just fit in two plants and have room for the fans.
It’s a really nice environment to grow in and keeps a nice stable temp.
I chopped the plants yesterday but didn’t weigh them , however, from experience I’d say I’ll get around 40g per plant dry.
Good luck with your grow
