Sprouted 4 of 4 seeds successfully on heat mat under 25w led clone dome, will veg and flower in offbrand 4x4 in custom built rdwc system.
Trying the lucas formula and switching up beneficial bacteria from hydroguard to Orca
I have another plant vegging in a 2x2, ill try to keep it as a mother and get some clones off of it.
Im keeping these in the clone dome for at least the rest of this grow week, Im chasing down a few leaks in my rdwc setup, and will do a deep clean of it after, but other than that, Im ready to grow them out in there for veg/flower.
I moved the seedlings to netpots with hydroton, theyre still staying in the dome until I mix up nutrient solution for the 4x4 setup. I was able to replant them up to the coty leaves to get them as short as possible
2/2: transplanted to the 4x4 setup with nutes
The light only has a few bars plugged in, to get higher efficiency for early veg
2/6: noticed seedlings getting beaten up, lowered the water level, turned down the light to minimum, and added a humidifier, adjusted environmentals to maintain high humidity and temp.
2/7: checked ph, 7, way too high, getting ph down asap, ppms were off as well, 500, lowered water level and replaced about 6gal with plain water, 400ppm.
Hopefully these recover, one actually seems pretty happy with the conditions, but 3 of 4 are not.
My ph is still off, waiting for ph down to show up. All netpots have some roots coming out of them, the biggest plant has a decent root growth into the water.
Temp and humidity are staying pretty stable, so thats a plus.
After turning down the light intensity to minimum, all the plants have stopped showing serious signs of stress, on the left 2 plants though, their growth still seems slowed.
Ppm's have risen about 30-40ppm since I lowered it to 400 in the middle of last week, but I think ill stay the course rather than swap the rez, and ph down asap.
Im not sure why theyre not taking off, in the past, week 2 is when I get tight, wide fan leafs, but all 4 of these still have a seedling look to them. They have more air in each bucket than my plants are used to, their roots are into the water. I added tin foil in case im getting light into the buckets. And added some calmag because the back right plant was darkening. In my experience, thats the first sign of a Ca deficiency.
My ph down arrived the other day, I was able to set it to 6 ph. Ppm's were high after adding calmag, so I exchanged about 5-6 gallons with plain water. Growth is still slow, but all plants have roots into water. Only the one in the back right looks on track though.
It looks like all plants are starting to veg, really looking forward to seeing this weeks growth.
Once they hit about 12-14", Im going to scrog them out, and flip when the net is 50% full
I upgraded from a 20w air pump to a 32w, and moved the 20w to my rez. I think I was on the verge of root rot, theres definitely some anaerobic bacteria starting to grow, hopefully this puts a stop to that.
None of the rootballs are big enough for me to feel comfortable sending them into flower, Ill give them another week or two to catch up to where they should have been by now.
PPMs have been pretty stable so far, hopefully the extra aeration makes them hungrier.
*After 2 days of more aeration, the funky smell in the rez is gone, and newer white roots are forming!
*The last pic of this week is 3 days after the initial pics. The plants are definitely lagging behind schedule, but now their growth is accelerating to what it should have been over the last several weeks.
So the aeration was definitely the issue.
This is essentially the 2nd-3rd week of true veg growth. Ill keep vegging until the roots fill the buckets up more, and the tops hit the "scrog" net.
Its not a proper scrog net, but Ill be able to train them down a bit with it.
Im looking to grow 1/4 to 1/2 pound monster plants.
ppms are holding steady, and the plants are transpiring enough to keep humidity decent.
Im seeing a few stray fungus gnats, so Ill hit them with some neem oil as soon as I can get to the store
*Edit*
So neem oil for gnats isnt really a thing, I used mosquito bits, in the water, and in the clay pellets. That combined with the sticky trap seem to be doing the trick
I measured out my headroom, and after deciding to shoot for 45" plants, I set the scrog net to 15"
Last time I grew this strain, it tripled in height in flower
I did a bit of pruning, took off most of the stringy branches that will never grow big, and took a few fan leafs to uncover branches that have potential, but were shaded.
I installed a super low net, to let me veg as long as possible and keep my height super low.
My box fan died, so I got a small standing fan to keep air moving.
These plants are feeding super heavily now, dropped from 1400 to 1300ppm overnight.
I cant wait to see these babies flower.
They keep tolerating more and more nutrients. Ive upped them to 1500ppm, they drop otherwise.
Im going to do a full rez change once these ppms swing hard again, and flip to flower a few days after that.
I stripped some of the lower growth that wont amount to much in flower, and fan leafs that were blocking otherwise good branches.
I raised the net to 15" since I trained them horizontal enough to spread out the tops for flower.
Im going to flip in the next few days, as long as everything continues to looks this good.
After seeing the roots just about fill the totes, I decided to flip to flower. I did some lollipopping towards the end of last week, and removed a lot of larfy little branches.
I added some big bud on top of my base nutrients, because Ive had good results with that.
Im going to maintain a 10-12" light distance, and increase my light from 80% to 100% power after the stretch is over.
You guys, I cant believe how heavily these girls are feeding, ppms were set to 1450ppm last night, 1300 this morning, 950 this afternoon.
I added more big bud to up the pk a bit, and get my ppms back where they were.
I cant wait for them to really hit stretch, I think theyre going to explode in the next few days!
The stretch from last week wasnt as much as I thought. I think its because Im using less nitrogen than before, and my lighting is enough to keep the plants from stretching.
Going into week 2, we'll see if I jinxed it.
I did some defoliation on the front 2 plants, for the back 2 I only removed lower stringy stems.
It wont be a perfect side-by-side comparison, but it might give me a better understanding of what works and what doesnt.
Following WTTGT advice, I dimmed my lights down to 60%, planning to up to 70% at week 3, 80% week 5, and 100% at week 6.
Plants are still feeding heavily, ppms dropped from 1700 to 1500 overnight last night. I set them to 1600 and ill adjust up as needed.
Its becoming super apparent that the close-right plant is affected by something stunting it, possibly TMV. The leaves have some twisting and discoloration, some only on half the leaf, some all throughout. It doesnt seem to be spreading to the other plants, but ill keep an eye on it.
Halfway through week 2 and all 4 plants are showing pistils, Im excited!
These girls are about halfway done with stretch. I've continued bending and supercropping as needed, and have been plucking small tops that will never get big.
The back 2 plants are getting the least attention, and are growing mostly naturally. They did get lollipopped at flip, and will get a 2nd round at the end of this week.
Ive started running a dehumidifier outside the tent to keep my humidity in the sweet spot, and will install my carbon filter today, since theyre starting to smell.
I didnt do a proper water change, but let the rez run low and filled with about 15gal of fresh water.
The light is at 18" where I think Ill get the best footprint. I cant wait to see these babies push more pistils this week!
I pruned all the leggy side branches I could find, to help promote bigger buds on the main stems. I think thats what has been causing me to have such small buds in my previous grows.
Unfortunately the back left plant had some heat stress, we had some cold nights this week, and the heater blasted it, most of the tops are ok, but a few are pretty messed up.
Pistils are starting to outline the shape of the buds.
The plants are drinking a ton of water every day, and im trying to keep the levels right.
The filter is doing its job, but when I open the tent, the smell is noticable.
Were going into week 5 of flower! I did a full water change today, adjusted back to base nutes, and added a tsp of koolbloom powder to the rez to give it a kick.
Adjusted the ph down to 5.8-6.0
The light is set to 80% power, and ill be keeping an eye out for light stress.
If all goes well this week, Ill crank the light up to 100% for the rest of the grow, starting at 18" and lowering down as needed.
The plants still dont smell super strong, but the terps are giving off definitely a fruity/piney scent
I dialed back the lights a bit after noting some light burn.
Ive switched from calmag to epsom salt.
Ive also added some more koolbloom powder to the rez.
Thanks for checking out my grow!
Buds are starting to swell and fill out, trichomes are covering the buds and sugar leaf.
The smell is sour and citrus-y
Im excited to see how these plants finish.
The 3 smaller plants look almost finished, the larger plant looks like it can go at least another week, the pistils are still popping out white.
The plants seem to be entering senescence, even with good levels of nutes, theyre consuming some of their old fan leaves.
The terps are lemony and piney now, and the smell is amazing
I harvested the runtiest plant, the others can keep going, I want to see some heavy buds from the biggest plant.
I took 4 clones off of the big plant, Im really hoping they root, because this is a monster plant and I'd really like to keep the genetics in my rotation.
I let my water run too low this past week and I think that caused some lockout.
I watered it down and added some micro to try to stop the yellowing.
If I can keep them happy long enough (esp the largest) I think the buds will be top quality.
Thanks for checking out my update
Ive started harvesting some of the more ripe tops, the smallest plant I chopped the whole thing to make extracts, all its buds were trash.
The biggest plant, in the back right, is still growing and putting on more weight.
I took 4 clones off of it in week 7, and they have all rooted since then, now Im trying to reveg them to cut fresh veg clones off of.
So far Ive gotten about 3oz of dried bud, about 3-4oz of larf, and about a half pound of sugar trim.
Overall im pretty impressed with how this grow has been finishing.
