Feb 25 in water
Feb 28 in soil
Mar 2 first shoot above soil.
Of the four strains started this round, Candyland was definitely the fastest and most vigorous germinating. Very promising. 👍
Mar 19: doing fine, about same size as QCS hash bud, but noticeably smaller than QCS Bubble OG both of which were started at same time.
The tent may have been too bright for these seedlings but I think they’re doing okay now.
Mar 24: nice plant but is smallest of the three photos started at same time (QCS hash bud and QCS Bubble OG).
Mar 25: first use of Extreme Blend from Kelp4Less as a foliar spray at 1 tsp per US gallon.
Mar 26: repotted into 7 gallon bag with soil, compost and worm castings. Plants look better 24 hours after first Extreme Blend spray. Leaves are greener and healthier already.
Being mostly used to autos, I’m amazed at the root systems on these three photos that just got transplanted. Plants should like their new digs. Waiting for sixth node to appear before I start manifolding.
Mar 28: added some sprouted popcorn seed tea (20 mL/L) watered in.
Mar 29: banana peel tea, Azomite and Epsom salts as a 700 ppm foliar spray.
Mar 30: topped down to third node as start of mainlining (manifolding). Never done this before and seems a bit scary. Azomite as a top dressing was watered in.
Apr 2: recovering and looking good enough I think.
Apr 5: finally tied the manifold down using wire.
Apr 6: weekly foliar with Extreme Blend. Recovering nicely from the first step of mainlining done last week.
Apr 7: fourth node forming on both branches and will top again tomorrow.
Apr 8: second topping of manifolding process. Supercropped branches so that outer growth tips are below the inner ones. Wrapped super cropping point with floral tape which is stretchy and breathable. I’ve never tried manifolding or super cropping but it seems to be going well so far. Hopefully these three plants are all well suited to these techniques.
Changed from 20/4 to 18/6 to better match natural light cycle.
Apr 9: sprayed with 1 mL/L of fermented plant juice (FPJ) from cannabis tops.
The tops from mainlining last week were mixed with equal weight of brown sugar and left in dark for a week with a breathable lid. A bit of water to extract from plant material produced 10 mL of FPJ. I know from last year this can be quite potent so hopefully 1 mL/L in a foliar spray isn’t too much.
Apr 11: looking good, but I broke off one of the 8 growth tips while checking the tape on the supper cropping. C’est La vie.
Mars-hydro.com for the awesome FC-4800 light and tent which makes things pretty easy.
Apr 13: these three mainlined plants are looking great. The tent is getting a bit crowded.
Apr 15: removed two largest fan leaves under the mainline. Friday foliar of Extreme Blend and FPJ. Removed wire tie downs for now.
Apr 16: hesitating on another round of topping for 16 colas, but I’m going to do it tomorrow morning at lights on. It’s at least another month before I can leave these plants outside and they’re pretty big already for the tent. Another round will allow me to keep them warm in tent for another few weeks. And 16 colas, actually 14 cuz I broke off one of the eight after second topping.
Apr 17: topped third time for 14 colas. Still another month before these can go outside and this should keep her smaller in tent for next few weeks.
Apr 18: well, that recovered quickly.
Apr 19: added peony ring to keep the colas apart. Using super cropping as needed to control height and location of colas rather than LST which is more likely to break a limb.
Flushed 7 gallon soil with about 16 L of pHed tsp water (250 ppm). Initial runoff was high at about 2000 ppm which means there was some salt build up in the soil. Final runoff was about 900 ppm which is good enough. I need to get the 20% runoff with each watering to avoid this.
4/20. Plant seems happy enough after the flush and pruning yesterday evening.
I’m not very good at following step by step instructions so my three mainlined plants all look a bit different. I was good up until 8 colas and then at 16 it went a bit wonky. This Candyland is maybe a bit too defoliated, the Bubble OG is about right, and Hash Bud is maybe still a bit too leafy. Never grown these before, nor done mainlining, so these plants might be too short for 16 colas to be a good choice. Whatevs, find out.
Apr 22: foliar Friday using Extreme Blend, and FPJ at half dose. Also some Epsom salts and a bit of Borax (<1/4 tsp in 3.5 L jug) as it could be a boron deficiency. This can cause the thickened lower leaves that this plant has and seemingly calcium deficient spots on big fan leaves. Likely not pH problems as I’ve been on top of that. Seems like the peony ring will work to separate the colas during flowering.
Apr 23: Borax did the trick meaning it was a B deficiency. Lower leaves are much better and the whole problem seems to be resolved. Doesn’t take much, but if B is lacking it’s very bad for plants.
Apr 26: the manifolding looks really good on this one. At least 16 quite evenly sized growth tips going so this could’ve awesome if I can keep it going outside. Maybe another week or 10 days and it should be warm enough to go outside for the afternoon at least.
Mars-hydro.com for the FC-4800 light and tent which makes my first indoor run pretty easy. Great stuff you should get and start the best hobby in the world.
Apr 27: looking really good and I’m quite happy with how it’s going so far. 🤞
May 1: watered with a bit of Borax thinking there was still a B deficiency.
May 3: all three photos got that Borax the other day, but only Hash Bud regrets it. Yellow tips on new leaves…wow, I didn’t give it much but the first time adding B was quite helpful. Likely need to flush again.
May 4: getting warmer but still another week inside at least with cold in the forecast for next week. Looking pretty awesome though. I’d like to put her directly in ground but I will have to use a 70 L garbage can instead.
May 8: second round of cuttings taken. Good plant it seems for cloning.
Pump running continuously in the cloner made the water way too hot. That, and too much H2O2, killed the first round. Bought a cycle timer and trying one min on and two min off cycle.
May 13: transplanted into a 80 L garbage can previously used to grow tomatoes. It was not used last year, and the deep soil was a really nice compost that the cannabis should love along with more root room. Slashed a few cuts into the smaller bag so it will be easy for the roots to grow into the new soil.
The plant has deficiencies for both P and K but hopefully the new soil and a good dose of Mega Crop gets it back on track. Aside from some nasty looking leaves, structurally she looks really good with about 14 main colas and a good shape. Started a bit too early but spring is here and she’s looking good. 👍
May 18: still quite early in year. She seems to have a deficiency going still but hopefully that clears up soon. She likes the new 80 L pot. It’s been near zero for a few hours overnight still lately which might explain he P deficiency.
May 20: forecast to hit -1 C at about 6 am tomorrow. Plant already showing a bit of P deficiency so gave a P heavy foliar.
May 21: hit -3 C last night so a bit worse than expected. Cold causing P deficiency so applied P heavy foliar in afternoon which seemed to help a bit. Plants are too big to move inside overnight so c’est la vie.
May 22: frost killed a lot of good fan leaves, but the root system should be good and strong so she should be able to come back strong.
May 23: removed a bunch of dead fans leaves. Stems and petioles are quite purple indicating P deficiency due to cold. Seemed a bit better by end of nice day but that frost night was pretty hard on Candyland and Bubble OG.
May 25: still looking pretty rough from the frost damage a few nights ago. Might also be some nutrient lockout going on. I’m suspecting a B deficiency again but I’m trying to wait to see if she sorts things out on her own.
May 26: bamboo stakes used to open up plant. Great idea I saw here on Growdiaries is better than I thought in that it’s easy to friction fit the poles and cross pieces and I simply held three pieces at corners using pipe cleaners (wire). Super easy and looks to be quite stable so should work great with these manifolded plants. The metal ring (peony ring) that I was using is still there but the bamboo opens it up further.
Still recovering from frost damage, but slowly looking better. 👍
May 30: this plant causes me some dismay because it is not recovering well from the frost. I’m also thinking that there is a B deficiency happening which means I need to find a bit of Borax.
June 2: no Borax available but I do have Azomite, and it looks like a trace metals deficiency, so I gave her some both as foliar and as a top dressing. Evening watering with molasses and Humalite.
June 3: foliar Friday with Extreme Blend, FPJ, Yucca and Epsom salts.
June 4: growth tips are now forming properly so the Azomite seems to have done the trick. This trace metals deficiency was triggered by frost one night about two weeks ago.
June 6: gave another bit of Azomite as a foliar along with FPJ, Epsom salts, Extreme Blend and yucca.
June 7: she’s doing better but still not right after the frost a couple weeks ago.
Check out coyowolves howling on video.
June 8: removed frost damaged colas and composted immediately with coffee grounds, peat pot bottoms, some HP Pro-Mix from a couple of failed peat pots and LAB. Cannabis was assimilated almost immediately and it looked like good compost after about two days. This was my Coffee Canna Compost which was used for some autos.
June 10: gave it 2.5 mL/L of FPJ as a soil drench rather than just the usual 1 mL/L as a weekly foliar spray. Plant seemed to grow a lot in the next few days so maybe I should do that more often.
June 11: looking better since the frost damage setback. Not as strong in the cool weather as the two Quebec Cannabis Seed plants but as we move into summer this plant should be fine.
June 13: recovered the six inches of height lost when I removed the frost damaged colas.
June 14: too many tops after having to remove frost damaged colas, but she seems fairly happy. Might be some sort of deficiency still, but she’s pretty big and promising.
Drilled air holes around the garbage can.
July 12: this was supposed to be a 16 tops manifold but the plant got damaged by a light frost so I cut it back. Now a ridiculous unknown number of tops being held apart by a combination of wire (peony ring), bamboo and finally a Scrog net. Being force flowered since July 11.
July 16: major defoliation on the lower half.
Was supposed to be a 16 cola manifold, but there was early frost damage that I had to cut back which means there are now about 30 tops. Not a fully symmetrical 32 but somewhere around 30.
July 28: applied foliar of LAB and potassium silicate about half an hour before covering for night. This was the last night of light deprivation and now back to natural light cycle.
July 29: major defoliation of the understory. Like pruning apple trees in the spring where you cut out the stuff that is growing in toward the centre of the plant. Should help a lot. Added second Scrog net to help keep the colas apart during ripening. Still so far so good.
July 31: another round of Power Bloom and malt as a top dressing. Started using soluble wood ash as a K source. See today’s Gorilla Gelato diary entry for details.
Sep 8: still going but nearing the end. Clones from this plant are ready now and this big plant is very close to ready. Might make the Growdiaries 30 week limit.
Sep 14: took first round of 705 g wet. There is a bit of bud rot showing which prompted the harvest- otherwise I’d wait another week or two. Smells great.
Sep 21: end of week 29 which means near the Growdiaries 30 week limit but the plant is nearly done. Might have to start a second diary to finish it though.
Note that flash pics of photoperiods are generally a bad idea but i shine a far red light on them at dusk so it’s okay. See Bubble OG manifold diary for details.
