Growing 4 plants. 2 in coco in 2 gallon airpots and 2 in DWC. All 4 are being fed the same solution. CalMag is set at roughly 80ppm,then topped to 550ppm with AN coco A&B grow mix.

Plants are doing well in general now into week 3. I'm keeping an eye open in the coco plants as other plants in the tent are slightly magnesium def right now. So each feeding is 500ppm of Advance nutes parts a and b, then upped to 600ppm with epsom salts. The DWC are on fire. Considering the magnesium def'c in the coco plants. I've decided to give the DWC plants a calmag suppliment. So when preparing the mix. I set the calmag ppm to about 80. Then top up with Advance nutes to 630 ( so, 550ppm feed). Once this is done, I finish off by adjusting the PH to 6.3 Plants look happy, so I'm not going to mess with success.🙏

We're now going into week 4. We can clearly see that the plants in the coco being fed 550ppm of AN at 6.5ph are not happy. I suspect the soil ( coco ph is changing over time creating Mg lockout), this would explain the yellowing leaves. The exact same,...let me repeat that in case you mis-read....the exact same feed is being given to the plants in the hydro setup. So the message is clear, coco isn't worth shit over hydro...And I have zero experience with hydro yet! The hydro setup costs about ( $5 per bucket,...$5 per basket cover,....$20 for 1 air pump for both plants,....$5 of air hose,.....$2 of nutrient for 2 weeks) = total $47 for 2 plants(doing very well btw!) The coco set up cost about ($8 per air pot,...$ 6 per pot of coco coir,,...and about $2 of feed per week,...so here +$4 .........= total $32 for 2 plants,...but both might be dead in the next 10 to 60 days. So, I would have to say the following about this strain, or at least about my 4 plants. They do not like coco,...I also have 40, yes 40 other plants in coco right now doing well. They do well in a DWC setup. The DWC setup as mentioned last week is not to strong a mixture. The coco setup require quite a bit more Magnesium for them to keep from yellowing. AND, I'm using Advance Nutrients COCO specific feed, so I'm not impressed to say the least. The coco plants were fed this morning with 500ppm of Epsom in the mix. Topped to 1000 ppm with Advanced Nutrients . So if they die, well...it will be documented and explained why! Pictures will be uploaded daily as of April 10th 2022 to follow the 1000ppm feed. Results with pictures to follow. GC

Feeding 80ppm of calmag then toping up to 680ppm of a and b mix. Ph adjusted to 6.5... DWC's are still doing much better than those in coco.

DWC plants were defoliated late last week. Plants were transfered in 5 gallon buckets. Feed in both coco and DWC is 80ppm calmag, then topped to 800ppm with AN A & B. Then PH is adjusted to 6.5.. Coco plants seem to be doing better at 800ppm. DWC are spotless and still very good growth.

Forgot to add comments this week. You didn't miss much. Still feeding 70-80ppm of calmag, then topped up to 800ppm with Advance Nutrients. The bottles of AN are now almost empty, so I need to feed them with my backup nutes( GH Floranova).

I now have all 4 plants on 12-12 lighting for proper flowering. Of the four, one of the deep water culture plants hermied ( I'm growing it for shitz & giggles). The other is a full fledged male, balls on him like king kong. This will be my male for the seed run. The other two in the tent (in coco) are both small, but healthy and progressing going into flower. Once I've gotten the pollen from Kong, these two will be pollenated for a seed run. I'm still feeding all ( DWC and coco) the same mix. 80ppm calmag , then adding a supplement of epsom salt to to 200ppm, then topped off with General Hydroponics FloraNova ,...topped to 800ppm. So theres really only 600ppm of feed... In terms of water consumption ( drinking). Both DWC's are in 5 gallon buckets and need closer attention. Both are drinking roughly 1 liter of water a day.

I wanted original Deadlights from NorStar not some immitation. 4 plants were grown, 2 in coco (females), 2 in DWC, one turned hermie without reason, the other was a very healthy male. Now that the pollen has been collected and the females are being flipped to 12-12.... the seed run should be just as plesant an experience. If I had to advise someone on growing these plants. It would be to start with fresh seeds. Fresh always makes healthy seedlings and eventually big health adults. Growing this strain was quite easy in terms of feed, lighting, enviroment etc..I blame the stunted growth in the coco because of a calcium def'c and wrong PH when the coco was first prepared. Once this was corrected with a PH flush, the plants regained their vigor and grew normally.
