paper towel then into peat pot. Once big enough, i took clones and flowered them in another room to select the females. The rudi skunk started about 2 weeks sooner than the ruderalis indica.

Grow Questions

Only_Organic_42069started grow question 3 years ago
Any thoughts on pruning at this stage? Or just let them get bushy until they start flowering and then prune at that point? Note that i cannot allow them to get super tall — they need to stay below the height of my fenceline.

Since you are growing outside and need to keep them short, topping them or training (best option with autos) would both work to keep them below fence height, but I would advise against defoliating, especially during flowering, as this is exactly when they need maximum energy to grow their biggest and best flowers. Just remember, - Less leaves = less energy being made = less flower growth. Actually, snce they are autos, you shouldn't have any problems keeping them below fence height, they rarely grow that tall outdoors, so I would be inclined to just let them do their thing with minimal interference. Hope this helps, Organoman.

another huge week, despite the rain and clouds. tremendous growth here! I thinned out the parts where too many branches clustered, and have LST to widen across the support structure. they pick up more light as a result!

despite pruning aggressively, these filled back in quickly and the RS keeps getting bigger. the RI, mostly wider at this point. they’re both over 1.5m tall and also at least 1.5m wide. And they need about 40L of water per day with the hot summer temps! Please flower soon???

At this point i Really don’t need anymore vegetative growth. Getting too tall. Lots of work to maintain, constantly trimming off excess growth in the interior shaded parts. Please please please flower soon!! It’s 14 gallons of water per plant, every other day.

Finally, some preflowers. Ive added more support for them. Last big round of trimming the shaded branches. These are much larger than i imagined. Its 37 degrees celcius outside, too hot, drinking lots of water.

I went away for a 4 day trip and came back and they are clearly starting the stretch phase in flowering. They do have a smell now, although it is mild. I added a top dressing to the soil: BuildAFlower. Basically the top dress gives it a light compost tea every time you water! These plants are very happy. I’ll never go back to poopy bottled fertilizer— would be totally impractical for how much water these need. Also the upgrade from last years 18gal pots to 45gal cloth pots seems to have made a huge difference. The plants are rootbound and have utilized every cm2 of soil!

The Ruderalis Skunk (R) has flowers and the Ruderalis Indica (L) does not. I suspect that the urban light pollution is just too much for the Rudi Indica. Very sad for her — no harvest from that plant at this rate. The Rudi Skunk is doing great however and looks to have big long flowers. The sugar leaves are yellowing fast. I gave one last dose of top dressing, and rootwise bacteria boost.

Only_Organic_42069started grow question 2 years ago
I have two big outdoor plants, same soil, same environment, same watering and different genetics (but similar). One is flowering well, and the other is only showing preflower with no buds whatsoever. This is an urban area with some small amount of light pollution.

Genetics are huge on flower trigger.. some varieties will trigger with 10 hours of darkness.. some need the full 12 I’ve seen research from Utah state on this.. it’s a spectrum. That said.. Depends where you are at - but I am a bit surprised you still have one not flowering. For example, I had one trigger around first of august, one around mid august and some around late august.. All same set up essentially but diff genetics

Down to once a week watering with the cooler temps, with molasses and a bit of Calmag added. Still not much flowering at all from the ruderalis indica, so whatever i get from the Ruderalis Skunk in 7-10 days will be my harvest. And the Ruderalis Indica will simply become an experiment: how much cold can a ruderalis plant tolerate in this northern climate?

Some mid week photos shot with canon t2i. I know these are a bit early but harvest will be very soon, less than 5 days away, due to weather (frost and rain). All photos this week are Ruderalis Skunk, and the plant is between 2.5 and 3 meters tall. A really huge, beautiful plant with a lot of pretty flowers loaded with resin. The aroma, although subtle outside, is my absolute favorite!!

Outdoor frost warnings!! To hedge my frost risk, I harvested half the plant — all the most mature buds (most red/brown pistils). The remaining half will get an extra 5 days to ripen up! So far, this looks to be a big haul even just the half that I pulled. Very sticky buds, with astoundingly fresh and sweet dank ruder smell. It took 3 people working 8+ hours each to trim (we amateurs!)

This is the most underrated strain out there. Why? 1) The smell, taste, and aroma are unique and other worldly. You don’t forget this smell. It will hit you in your nose weeks later as you have a “smell flashback”, and all you want to do is go home and open that jar and smell it several times more. 2) Although not a 20% thc strain, the high is just absolutely outstanding. It’s everything you ever wanted in a cannabis buzz: relaxing body tingles with clarity of mind and wonderful mindspace highness at the same time. You can be conversational, yet your aching shoulder no longer pains you. You will smile and have energy, and you will sleep well when you choose to. And you wake up the next day feeling alert and refreshed. Yet for some reason, few are growing it. They never gave a ruderalis a real chance. This is not an autoflower! This is an all time classic and I beg you to give it a go at least once, especially outdoor. I am mindblown by the vigor with which it grows, its hardiness, its yield, its colors, and of course the stickiness with which it finishes. Ive also grown it indoors, which produces a denser, darker colored version. You will never think of Ruderalis the same again. This one is simply the best.

It took 5 separate days of progressive harvesting to finally harvest and trim this nearly 3 meter monster. I will write more soon, but all I can say right now is that I am absolutely mind blown with everything about this gorgeous, enormous plant and its resultant yield of wonder buds.

This would have been awesome, but it started flowering too late (my other plant did not have this problem). I cant figure out why it waited so long to begin flowering. Nonetheless, excellent smell, nice buzz, enormous plant, very vigorous, and insane frost resistance!!

flowered too late. incredible frost resistance!! great smell! maybe i need to try indoor. perhaps the urban outdoor light pollution is what made it start flowering late. or maybe just a bad seed? i might try again. the smell is sooo nice and very unique. Enormous plant 3m tall and extremely bushy

Note that although the strains are semi-autoflower, these turned out to be photoperiod. Both of them.

You can also top them to help create more growth from the bottom. And it can help keep the plant shorter.

@Kmikaz420, as for effect, the Ruderalis Skunk is my all time favorite. It gives you a gentle, warm fuzzy body buzz and a nice headspace at the same time. It’s powerful but not excessive, and I am able to concentrate and be productive. I feel refreshed after. If I could only grow one strain of cannabis, it would definitely be the Ruderalis Skunk. Sensational effects!!

@Kmikaz420, these are Ruderalis Skunk and Ruderalis Indica. The R Indica started flowering too late in the season, so I doubt it will produce anything. The Ruderalis Skunk is just an amazing variety and I highly recommend it. Interestingly, The R Skunk comes from the other, as it is a cross between R Indica and Skunk #1. Both have the most delightful aroma you will never forget. Here in the north it is cold and these plants did very well in the cold climate.
