Northern_Ent May 29: planted one Skunk 2.0 Fast Version directly in ground. Dug large hole first and partially filled with premium soil and then covered with field soil to surface. Planted beside an 11Roses x Super Skunk Auto cross which is from feminized seed that I created last year. The cross is 18 days older than this Fast Skunk plant.

Northern_Ent June 2: Skunk 1 is still struggling but hopefully improving. Skunk 2 is more robust and loving being in the ground. June 8: skunk 1 seems to have lost its apical growth tip or something as it’s just not thriving. Considering culling this one.

Northern_Ent Aug 14: looks good. Aug 19: I’ve found a trick for outdoor growers that is mentioned in a single paragraph in Ed Rosenthal's Growbook. Far red 730 nm light at dusk for a few seconds puts plant into ‘dark mode’ without having to wait two hours for the light sensitive hormone to degrade. So 9 hours of darkness like we get here now is worth 11 h which is enough to get most plants flowering. It’s like getting a 26 h day which is handy and should get plants flowering about a month earlier. I use the end time of Civil Twilight as listed on timeanddate.com for Edmonton as my start time each night. This is currently changing 3-4 min earlier each night. Mainly using this on the big Bubble OG manifold that got too big for me to cover like I did for the other photoperiods. Also trying it on this plant which is awesome and likely doesn’t need the help. Forevergreenindoors.com has a 4 foot 730 nm light for 100 US, and it is lightweight and durable enough. Would be better if battery powered but okay for me as a corded light.

Week 22. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!
Rated
9/10

Very nice plant produced nearly one pound dried. This plant was ‘phyto-forced’ which seems like a bad term for this, but a far red light (730.nm) was shone on the plant for a few seconds at dusk each night. I used Civil Twilight as shown on Timeanddate.com for my location. This switches the plant into dark mode two hours early and has been described as creating essentially a 26 hour day. This red light was used as a bloom booster but also to induce flowering earlier than would otherwise occur. Seems a bit far fetched but mentioned in Ed Rosenthal’s Grower’s Handbook and does seem to work as claimed. Plants almost always take longer than advertised here, but this one was decently quick and did very well.

Northern_Ent Very nice robust plant that did great. Seems like an exceptionally good outdoor plant as you’d expect for a fast skunk. We had great weather here since July but we did have hail on September 7 that did minor damage to this plant. Flowers ripened quickly at the end. I’m very proud and a bit surprised that it ended up producing nearly a pound of dried buds. Between this one and my other big field plant (11Roses x Super Skunk) my arms and hands were getting tired during the final chop. It was manifolded into eight colas and branched heavily so there were lots of bud covered branches. Normally I would have left the lower buds to ripen for another few weeks but we’re down to just 10 h daylight already and there is minimal UV to produce trichomes. Could go a bit longer but wrapping things up for the season.

@Northern_Ent, I still have 2 seeds of this skunk. I'll grow it again for sure! They did grow some chunky buds!!
Northern_Ent
Northern_Entcommented3y ago
@Hempy_The_Kid, I’d certainly be happy to win more of these seeds. Buds are (a bit) better than on my 11RSS that was beside it despite starting three weeks later.

@Northern_Ent, if you look at picture on GD, lower left 2 leaves. Tricomes do not separate on the leaves, they start at base of leaf. I could be wrong but looks suspicious. There is a DOTM this month you just have to search for it. I'll send link in dm.

Hempy_The_Kid
Hempy_The_Kidcommented3y ago
@Northern_Ent, thank goodness!!
Northern_Ent
Northern_Entcommented3y ago
@Hempy_The_Kid, thanks but the damage is really quite minimal overall. On some plants the older, thicker and less flexible fan leaves got totally shredded (such as Lemonade Haze) but most plants the damage is minimal, including this Fast Skunk. So it goes.

Is this light ok for growing? https://greenygrow.com/product/mars-hydro-ts-1000w-led-grow-light/ Thanks in advance
Northern_Ent
Northern_Entcommented2y ago
@Hybridav, I don’t know for sure as I’m mostly an outdoor grower but it’s likely fine. I have an FC-E-4800 from Mars-Hydro and it’s great. You can search here for lights and there are over 1900 reviews for this model and it’s rated 4.8/5 so yeah it’ll work. Cheers.

She's looking good 👍 I've had opposite conditions, no rain and lots of hand watering. Hot days 80+ with cold nights 38-50. Last night was our second 70 degree overnight this year and summer is over half done!
Northern_Ent
Northern_Entcommented3y ago
@Hempy_The_Kid, June had twice the normal amount of rain, and we still get heavy thunder showers despite it being mostly warm and sunny lately. Last two and next two weeks are perfect cannabis conditions so she will be making up for lost time.
