May 18: third attempt at cloning after two previous failures due to over heating. Under fluorescent grow light using a 17/7 cycle to match outside conditions.
May 31: now 13 days since the start of this and we finally have visible roots forming. Right on. Water overheated during first two cloning attempts due to the pump running too much, but this run looks like it’s worked.
June 1: took best rooted clones and planted into 5 L pots with ProMix HP. Kept out of direct sun but they stayed outside during the afternoon. These are my first ever clones, but apparently they’re pretty fragile for a couple more weeks.
June 7: four Hash Bud clones planted out into 5 gallon bags.
June 10: all the clones in soil seem to have taken root and are now growing nicely outside. We get 17 h of daylight these days so the clones should be good and continue to veg without starting to flower.
June 29: field clone doesn’t look as good as the others. I just used the native topsoil which is excellent for most plants without adding peat, perlite, or compost. Intentionally done to see if that works. Well, this was the biggest clone when planted, but is now behind its peers.
Clones in grow area are being force flowered, but the one in the field is not. The field clone is smaller likely due to use of native soil rather than a lighter blend.
Sep 8: hailstorm last night did some minor damage.
Sep 12: took first round 273 g wet.
Sep 16: took a big round of 1,060 g wet or 1,333 g total just from the clones so far.
Sep 16: took big round of 1,060 g wet. Total of 1,333 g from clones so far. Very nice dense and firm buds.
Sep 23: took 1293 g wet, total 2,626 g. Don’t have an exact count of the three types of clones, but likely 13 hash bud clones or 202 g average which seems about right.
I lost an early load of 36 hash bud clones when the power went out to the cloner for about six hours. Oh well, know for next time to have a small battery backup during that critical phase.
Sep 25: final round of 340 g wet, total 2,966 g from 15 clones.
Sep 29: the unforced field clone is the last one still going. This plant was compromised by using native soil without any amendments and was largely neglected during the growing phase. The clone would be bigger if it got the normal attention.
Oct 7: down to 11 h of daylight.
Harvested last small clone for 130 g wet. That was supposed to be a seed plant but the pollination failed. Exceptionally dense high quality buds as these were left going a long time.
Last clone in field was twice the size of the grow area plants because it was allowed to veg and flower naturally. Clones in grow area were light deprived to force flowering in mid-July. Grow area clones ripened under stronger sun and had better buds. The best buds form under strong sun but bigger yields come later in the fall.
@gottagrowsometime, outdoors isn’t so bad as long as you tend them daily, use the right strain, and time it right. And get lucky on weather like western Canada did this year. It can be a bit merciless some time though.
@gottagrowsometime, just working that out. I think it was 16 plants, 15 in grow area forced early providing about 50 g dried each of awesome early buds, and one in the field that was not light deprived. It was almost exactly 100 g, so twice as big, but the late season buds weren’t as good. All goes for hash anyway. Great plant. All cuttings were from the Hash Bud manifold diary plant that yielded 740 g. Woohoo. Highly recommended strain. Cheers.
@smoker420, for guerilla style that far north (like here) your best bet would likely be autos or very fast flowering photoperiods. If you can force flower (12 h darkness for min two weeks) then you have more photo options. Something from Fast Buds will work. I’m grow their Gorilla Cookies FF this year. Don’t start autos too early as cold overnight can stunt them. Wait until end of May or early June. Good luck.
@gottagrowsometime, thanks, eh? This is my first time trying clones and I’m very happy with how they’re going. I’m a bit stunned cuz I didn’t realize they could grow faster than plants from seed. Cheers.
