ANYWHERE MARKED WITH 🔔 IS REGARDING LST AND LEAF REMOVAL!
————————————————————————————————
INTODUCTION -
Hello GD family, we have our GrowCaps test run.
In this diary we will be making detailed notes with pictures to explore how I like to train my plants. I don’t have a large grow space, so keeping a nice even canopy is crucial.
For anyone wishing to follow one along
ANYWHERE MARKED WITH 🔔 IS REGARDING LST AND LEAF REMOVAL!
———
STRAIN: SUGAR BLACK ROSE
INFO: Sugar Black Rose Auto (DS9) is one of the tastiest autoflowering strains in our catalogue and is the result of crossing Critical Mass Auto with 1998 Black Domina Auto.
Indoors, she can be a relatively short and compact plant although, if given enough room she can spread out more, developing abundant lateral branches. Outdoors, whether in large pots or directly in the ground, she can grow quite tall with very long secondary branches resulting in a wide, rounded plant. Because of this, she’s very discreet but very productive.
The buds have a sweet, fruity aroma like oranges or other sweet citrus fruits. They taste of ripe grapes and flowers with skunky overtones and is really interesting. When exhaled, the smoke or vapour tastes sweet and spicy at the same time.
The effect of Sugar Black Rose Auto is instant and very long lasting. Almost narcotic, it soon leaves you in a state of very deep relaxation. Its good cerebal stimulation levels make this strain highly valued for medicinal use as well as by indica lovers in general.
STATISTICS:
GENOTYPE: INDICA AUTO
THC: 18%
LIFE CYCLE: 60-70 DAYS
FLAVOR: Sweet Fruit
PRODUCTION: 500 G/M2 INDOOR | 80g/plant
ODOR: High
EFFECT: Narcotic
RESISTANCE TO MOLD: High
PEST RESISTANCE: High
LINEAGE: Critical Mass X Black Domina 98 Auto
BHO PERFORMANCE 25%
IRRIGATION TOLERANCE HIGH
MEDICINAL VALUE VERY HIGH

July 2nd Day 1 - Delicious seeds SUGAR BLACK ROSE AUTO (SBR) out of the ground in canna professional soil.
_______________________
July 19th Day 18 - Ok so I received the grow caps! Thanks! I have a Delicious seeds - Sugar Black Rose (SBR) plant ready to transplant straight into the grow caps. On the instructions there was no information on wether to mix the soil with perlite. I will be making a 60/40 mix soil/perlite✌️🏻,
July 17th Day 16 - 💧Again watered with plain tap water (soft 0.2EC). Looks healthy as can be...
Side branches developing rapidly. I predict she will love training.✌️🏻
_______________________
July 19th Day 18 - 💧Watered her into her new pot with some Mykos 0.5ml/L Canna Rhiztonic & 0.5ml/L Canna Calmag agent total 200ppm/0.4EC wait till she drys in her pot.
_______________________
July 21st Day 20 - she’s settling in nice to her new home. Grow caps looking promising.
———🔔———
Did some minor LST.. more to come👍🏼
July 22nd Day 21 - so let’s see how long before she needs a drink...
_______________________
———🔔———
July 23rd Day 22 - some more LST the way I do it is to keep the branches inline with the connected fan leaf, this keeps things flowing nicely for the end result. You want stretch all the branches away from the main stem creating a symmetrical flowing pattern. As the plant moves Auxins around this creates a race from the side branches. every few days we will make adjustments✌️🏻

July 25th Day 24 - 💧the lady wants to be wet. She’s screaming for a good feeding. I’m going for a 2 hour sleep before my lights turn on then on then im hitting her with 0.4EC cal mag only. I’d like to know if i need to be feeding calcium magesium If I have soft water...?✌️🏻
———— 💧💧💧
Fed 1L of 0.4EC 6.4PH maybe this is a little less than required, I will put 2L in next

———🔔———
July 26th Day 25 - LST is a daily event now, we want to create a sort of swirling pattern now with the main stem. Whichever side of the trunk has less development bend the main stem towards that direction. See pictures with a
————————————————
July 28th Day 27 - Continuously maintain a nice even canopy you can keep moving the “ground stakes” around continuing the flow away from the plant. Very soon we will be removing some leaves and smaller unwanted branches before flower sets in. She is currently preflowering I do not count flower commencement until the pistils appear at the tips.
30th July Day 29 - 💧watered her with 2L plain water straight out of tap PH’d to 6.4
soaked the pot well!
———🔔———
The next stem after the continued LST is some defoliation (leaf removal). I removed all of the first sets of fan leaves from the main trunk and branches. To explain further. When your main trunk grows it produces “primary” fan leaves and branches. Thes branches also produce fan leaves. These are “secondary” fan leaves. You want to remove all of the primary fan leaves except the top 2-4. And all of the first sets of secondary fan leaves from the branches that’s have become new tops.
IN RELATION TO THIS PLANT — as you can see the canopy is nice and even, the branches have a nice spread to them, and are thick enough to support many bud sites. They are also growing vertically which if positioned properly under a grow light will aid in even and symmetrical bud growth.

August 1st Day 31 - Nice growth, picking back up
_______________________
August 2nd Day 32 - 💧Just water 6.5PH @Magichuusom convinced me to not add any Calmag. For now, I am deciding to trust the growcaps potential. I don’t feel I’ve cheated by adding it to 1 feed. I actually had a little discoloration on some of the leaves, nothing too serious. Again no info of the ingredients, secrecy is important I guess✌️🏻
August 5th Day 35
———🔔———
We are into the stretch now. I won’t LST in the sense of making new bends. However it’s important to try and manage an even canopy as best you can. You don’t want to stress her too much, or it can rob her of growth in stretch.
_______________________
August 11th Day 41 - 💧watered with 2L seems to be enough to soak the pot hardly any run off. Snapped a branch moving her. Over all she’s getting neglected as I overestimated the power of this LED. The LST was let run its course. She stretched out of her supports early on. If I had more available light to spare I’m sure she would have turned out much more meaty✌️🏻
August 14th Day 44 -
———🔔———
regarding LST if you read from the beginning you have enough knowledge to maintain the LST you should not have make new bends at this point as stated before just re-adjust current positions. LEAF TUCKING goes a long way at this point. I will be removing more leaves shortly.

Regarding my ability to grow this plant -
Overall not happy with the attention I’m able to give this lady. It’sad because we had quite a gathering of friendly faces on this page. As it stands I snapped a branch and the main stem. She’s healing ok, hopfully my new reflector comes today so I can allocate her more light. The sooner the better.
_______________________
15th August Day 45 - 💧Just water. UPDATE: so we had an issue mishandled her and snapped a branch. I HAVent been able to give her the light she requires but that will soon change, hopefully will pull a bit of yield back. Overall the buds are developing nicely I love chunky indica buds👍🏼
August 21st Day 51 - 💧Just water. I decided to place her in my small drying tent with the LED on her. Unfortunately it was too late. She’s no competition winner that’s for sure, but she smells nice and buds are combing along. I will get some more pics up soon👍🏼
August 28th Day 58💧 Sad update found some severely necrosis on some leaves of the cracked stem plant. Bad thing #2 my PH pen was off so they’ve been getting a low PH water supply for i don’t know how long. As im having issues with my main tent I missed day where I should have watered. This girl should be good to come down next week. Overall im not able to give a solid review on grow caps YET as I couldn’t control the grow✌️🏻
1st September Day 62 - 💧watered some time between today and last week. Leaves still have necrosis showing up. SOIL ph is probably way off now. I’m just taking her to the end not trying to fix anything. She’s swelling up now probably 10-14 days left✌️🏻

7th September Day 68 - Ok so although she’s not big and we’ve had some issues,I can say the grow caps did a good job getting her frosty and she STINKS good!!
Sugar Black Rose 🌹 what a wonderful strain. The smell is intoxicating Berries, cheese, cream, minty... so manny scents wrapped together. I will upload dry shots in a week or so, thanks for following✌️🏻
Update: Hey, so I’m back with some dried and cured shots. I say cured it’s only been a week but as you can see by the colour most of the chlorophyll has dissipated from the bud.
Smell 5/5
Initial whiff is a very strong berry aroma that overpowers the skunkyness that lingers along with a earthy stank from start to finish... ahhhhh im in love.
Taste 5/5
The taste is bang on, like the aroma strong berry skunky taste, quite surprised about how smooth she is after such a short period.
High 4/5
I give her a 4 as she wasn’t able to reach her full potential! Next time I want to give this wonder of a strain full marks!! If you're looking for pain meds, stress relif and sleep sleep bye bye... plant some of these magical beans.
there isn't much info on growcaps on their website, or anywhere..I'll just try it, keep a diary on the plant/plants, and hope that none of those veteran growers beat me up in that "contest"..
@Larimar, Hey I’m sorry for not replying here, Thank you. Yes I think it helps the plant by recovering some of the slow lost by bending her over. You will see the fan leaves petioles will stretch with the branch giving you the ability to keep the leaf and use its photosynthesis power to its branch whilst it still needs it.
Once that branch has created leaves that overshadow the “primary” initial fan leaf you can then remove it as you can see in this weeks update :)
@PharmaZ, Like your esotheric way of LST.. follow the flow of the plant... wow very meaning. i hope i find the flow. because lst is for me a torture and i dont really like to do it. but in your diary its looks very nice and kind to the plant
@Marceleco, hey man sorry didn’t see this, I got just over 20g off her, she was small but I’m sure she can be a heavy yeilder looking at other grows. Overall I’m happy with the outcome👍🏼
@PharmaZ,ohmaaan she is looking very nice. i got to visit you and do a lst workshop. i kow you do nice explanations but i got to see it life......... ok now true...... i will do it when my girls are big enough
its great to have such a community
@bobo420, I’ve grown the Black Domina part of it. And it was great for meds, got these beans for free and I’ve heard good words about the photoperiod. Haven’t seen any outstanding results of the auto yet but then again haven’t looked very hard :)
how do you rate the grow caps man? Someone handed me a plant a a couple months ago, it was all yellow and dying for lack of light and it was in a half liter pot. Brought it home after mad journeys and threw it in with some grow caps. 4 weeks later the whole top layer of soil was a gree moss so i took it out my tent. Four weeks later, today, it's been on my balcony - i water it once a week... it's getten 6hs of sun a day tops but it seems happy... it has some companion growths here and there randomly i'll throw some pictures up to join the @grow_caps competition... after all they sent us some ferts right ?
@CRiSPrGrow, and to be honest this experience using them is not great. Next year I will try again In the summer outdoor in pots of course we shall see how it goes :)
@CRiSPrGrow, looked for the diary but you don’t have 1 for it right? I think they may work better in a living soil. As there would be some interaction between beneficial bacteria and fungi.
@Me_and_my_bitch, Ty you 2 :) I’m happy quality wise for this Sugar Black Rose, quantity is not much I’m not sure how much because it’s not fully dry yet but will let you know
I like the idea of grow caps. But I don’t know if the ratios are “perfect” Soil will always be my strong point though I’m still just a novice, I know that a strong micro life in soil makes for a good plant. Maybe if @growcapsrep added a beneficial bacterial and fungie pack alongside the polymers it may be that extra piece of the puzzle, just a thought. (In just getting into innoculation)✌️🏻
pots made up now so will be putting seedlings in and kicking off my diary too. exciting prospect of a "lazy feed" grow. hoping to use an auto flower too for maximun hands off ( might top though)have rdwc to set up for multi strain grow alongside too ( barneys farm donations
pH up/down is always a good idea, if the water in your region is no good.. the water where i live, is 7, or just below, which is perfect for me.. they say that it saves 30% water, so i guess there is a perlite-like effect to it also.. i know nothing about growcaps, i'm just gonna try it, adding nothing but water.
@Magich, I was wondering... should I add perlite? Should I use Ph up/down? My tap water is 40ppm that’s soft as shit. Am I allowed to use calmag? Or do the polymers contain enough..? I have lots of questions too, not much info to go off I’m afraid. im just going to carry on the way I’m going. As I see it I’m adding water and Calmag to a percentage accepted as “normal water”
@Magich, Mykos were used for transplant, to reduce shock. And improve plant health they are not a nutrient they do not get added every feed it’s a 1 time amendment.
What do you think I should do?
It depresses me how much nicer these look without topping/training. I almost regret doing it to mine, I’m still a newb so it scares me when I alter them. Are you planning on doing anything to train?
@LumberjackBuds, hey mate, I did reply to this message must not have sent. Yes I used to take a deep breath before doing it, but now I’m so confident I will end up with a shorter fatter plant. LST Definitley works for me! When I get my other tent up and running I will leave some plants grow natural with some leaf tucking only to compare. Like a side by side.✌️🏻
