Just put them in the towel today. Expecting them to pop within 24 hrs and ready to plant in 3 days so spending the time thinking up names for the 2 girls
They've both popped bang on the estimate. One even has a 3mm long taproot already. My coir has been reclaimed from 2 previous grows and the perlite has degraded so rather than wash up stones from the garden I've thrown in a few handfuls of lego bricks. They're non reactive to anything I'm going to put in there so should work just fine. Plus I've got plenty of the shit kicking around.
I went back today and nearly shit myself at the progress. 1 had nearly sprouted fully so I got the nutes mixed and stuck them in the coir with an extra drink and a bottle canopy. Week 1 will begin with the first ground being broken
Into the early hours of day 2 I was surprised they've reached 2cm already. I might have been lucky with some speedy phenotype but we'll see as the week plays out. I've gone for Dr. Who companion names for the girls as I watched so much of it while working my way through the last grow.
Nothing unusual so far. Girls are thirsty and working on their 3rd set of leaves. At the end of the week I'll be looking at training options. Probably LST followed by a FIM for each.
Update Day 11 - So they're both in mad growth right now, maybe it's normal or maybe it's my last grows learning curves getting them to the right level of health. The plan now is to start LST on Friday and look at Fimming by the following Wednesday.
Update Day 14 - I started the LST yesterday but couldn't find my garden wire so in the spirit of DIY tools I tied some string between two cotton buds and used that instead. I have to say it's working far better than expected. I made the mistake of taking off the ties on the last grow, this led to a lot of height and caused its own issues down the line so I'll be looking at carefully managing how much I put them through this time.
I'd planned on leaving the FIM til later but the sprouts at the top were begging to be clipped and looked just about perfect. It coincided with a feed so the stress hopefully won't cause too many issues. I'll keep track through the week but will be looki g for at least a few more cm in height before I tie anything else down at this point.
I took the decision to just FIM the one time this grow and realised I'd luckily made the right choice. I'd also taken steps at the end of last week to change up the nutes. I'm being even more attentive this time round by having a nute mix half way towards the full bloom nutes. I took down the canna A&B but compensated with the CalMag and added quarter strength PK. If there's no sign of N toxicity then I'll keep the Canna at the same level but boost the PK once we're in full flower.
Also notices the first signs of preflower today so I've been really lucky with the timing on all fronts
I didn't do all that much with the girls last week but this week those pistils shot out and there's even some early trichomes forming on the fan leaf. I'll be keeping them on the current nute mix for now maybe upping the PK a bit further into the week. This will be the mix they get right up til flush and so far there's been no sign of any burn like the previous grows.
The FIM was a massive success again with 4 primary colas, 3 secondary and a couple of tertiary stems. I'd have. Een tempted to do a bit of defoliation but they're growing so well I'm inclined to leave the both be for the duration. I took off the LST ties further down but will be looking at tying off to the frame of the tent at some point this week to ensure a nice spread and a good control over the height.
