Purple Kush 1 I dropped straight into the soil and watered. I had a Blueberry Auto that didn't like that method (twice) so I said fuck it and germinated a second Purple Kush via soaking in water + 1% Hydrogen Peroxide for 24 hrs and then wet paper towel for two days. This worked better and I feel more confident in this method going forward.
Purple Kush 1 took a hell of a time to get going. My best guesses are either lights weren't low enough (originally had them at 24" but brought them down to roughly 12" now) or it was struggling in the pre-amended medium. Looks like it's going now so whatever.
Purple Kush 2 was currently germinating so it's about a week behind. A little confusing but fuck it.
Purple Kush 1 seems to be doing ok. This is my first grow from start to finish so not really sure if this is slow or not, but judging by other grows at 14 days that I've spied on around the web it looks alright? Maybe? Still not sure...fuck it.
Purple Kush 2 dropped germinated seed in a peat pellet and it sprouted super quick. Yeah baby! After three days in a plastic cup with the lid on (straw hole open), I dropped her into the medium this morning. Took the lining off the peat pellet and it started to break (fuck me) as I was putting it in the dirt...she looked a little pissed but fingers crossed she likes water. Gave her a healthy splash to keep the temper at bay. We shall see if she holds a grudge...
Again, a super slow growth week for both plants, though Purple Kush 1 seems to be picking up the pace.
After throwing the question around and getting some feedback, I've loosely concluded that the disfiguration in the first few sets of Purple Kush 1 leaves is nutrient shock since it was planted directly in the soil. Purple Kush 2 was born in a peat pellet and is not showing the same peculiarities, so it's reasonable to assume nutrient shock might be the cause.
The super slow growth, on the other hand, is potentially independent of substrate nutrient content since Purple Kush 2 is moving like a tank but its roots haven't even breached the peat pellet and touched the FFOF. I've seen a few other Purple Kush CBD 1:1 Auto diaries here and there might be a trend. If anyone has any experience or insights regarding this please comment below...I'd love to hear them.
Riding these out with over-fertilized soil. Purple Kush 1 showing greater lockout than Purple Kush 2 but PK1 is now starting to flower so we'll see what the fuck happens...
Nothing much to report. Some pretty solid vegging out despite PK1's nutrient deficiencies. Going for some experimental LST with PK1 since it's so fucked up to begin with - what more can go wrong?
PK1 Soil PH is high...go figure. Look at those leaves...and I thought it was just a unique pheno! Fuck it, if she grows then she grows...
Topped PK2 because she was looking so healthy. Let's see what she can do...
PK1 buds starting to smell like berries. Wild!
PK2 vegging out hard! Looking happy and healthy - excited to see the yield when this one is done. Might have pushed back her due date a bit but what the hell, ya know?
Nothing new really. Plants are growing pretty steadily.
Purple Kush 1 will be a small yield but at least I'll get to try something of a test spin when she's done. Smells like berries and diesel.
Purple Kush 2 is bushing out and looking to be a banger. Been managing the canopy by trimming the lower shaded leaves and maneuvering LST points to spread her out as much as possible. Might be getting a bit of light burn but ain't enough to stop her. Will top dress with some nutes next week. Until then...
Correction (maybe): I think PK2 is suffering a bit of nutrient lockout, NOT getting light burn. I have high water PH and forgot to lower the last few feedings. She's due for some top dressing anyway so hopefully dosing up and fixing the water PH will do the trick.
Might give PK 1 the chop this week. Trichomes are looking pretty cloudy and she's not growing any bigger as far as I can tell.
Gave PK2 a good top dressing this week (444, 484, and some Roots Organics Cal/Mag) and paid more attention to water PH so hopefully she likes. Starting to stretch so should be fun to see how big the flowers get compared to PK1. Fingers crossed...
Love the color. Trichomes look like glitter. Super sticky. Strong berry fragrance and a very sweet taste in the vaporizer. Nice gentle trip best suited for bedtime. Overall super enjoyable.
I have run into a variety of issues growing this strain - it's quite finicky and leaves one with small margins for error. Not for beginners. As a result, this first plant yielded very little. The second plant is looking more promising, though.
basically on autopilot here. applied final cal-mag and 484 top dressings and added some dynomyco since it just arrived in the mail...prob too little too late but figured I'd give it a shot. Also trying molasses once a week in the water - again, prob too little late at this stage but I don't think it can hurt so just doing it for experimental purposes at this point. I suppose I could chop this any day now but I'm trying to align my drying during a 10 day vacation so going to grow this one for 2 more weeks.
This strain is a little finicky. Granted, I messed up with water PH and overly hot seedling soil, but I've grown other strains not so sensitive to the PH level. Got roughly 0.5 oz in the end.
Had to leave this to dry for 10 days so it was a little too crispy but I managed to resuscitate it to optimal RH for curing. It has a strong classic weed aroma from afar, but up close it has that intense berry smell...it's so intense it's almost sickly, but that will fade throughout the cure.
I like this strain, overall. Nice mellow experience and helpful for sleeping.
@Seedsman, thank you! 🙏
One question while I've got your attention - have you noticed if the Purple Kush CBD 1:1 auto takes a bit longer to get going than other strains? My first plant seems to be off to a rather slow start so just want to double-check if this is something to expect or if it's a reaction to the medium, environment, etc. Thanks!
Sounds yum. Not a bad little light. Was my used for my 1st grow. Broke it back out for the fun of it. And she's lit up along with my P1000 "has a much brighter spec and better for veg" but the 2 lights together seem to be working well.
