I have been struggling with outdoor autoflowers for a few years now but finally got it in my green fingers. Autoflowers are very sensitive to any sort of change. I cant compare it to a lot of other auto strains, but I am amazed about the final result. Hard buds and big yield and yet amazing quality.
Just some stress problems, but now I know what to expect and what rules to follow for coming years.
These photos were taken after they had been cut down for a while. So the roots are a bit browner than normal. They have well rooted, but almost only down. Sees that placing deeper by stretching is not ideal with regard to the space that the roots will use in a pot. But I don't think it's really had a detrimental effect on yield.
Drying went pretty well, maybe a little too hot. There are really hard peaks in between, but others are not. Within 2 weeks everything dry, because it was still warm in mid-August.
Thick yield of 1.7kg which after all these problems is a very thick and higher yield than expected. 200gr still taken out, because I didn't think it was good enough. Because of that cutting out of buds, the buds that remained became very airy and weird again, really a shame.
More than a month of curing in large air closed cans purchased from polyestershoppen.nl.
Its ideal large cans with clamp bracket, 3 pieces of 10L and 2x 20L.
What to do to improve smell and taste?
Now some testing to improve the smell and taste with dried fruit and essential fruit oils. Even fruit dried in the oven, but I honestly have little confidence in that, unless you let it be cured in a pot for a year. I'm going to try essential citronella oil, because at least it smells. If people have any tips for taste and smell improvement at the end, I'd love to hear it. That essential oil has a real effect on the smell, but taste with smoking actually does not.
I think that fruit takes a bit longer, but ultimately has little effect. Think that for taste you really have to apply light stressing during growth and flowering. Google it, I'm going to try next year.
I'm already looking at what I want to do next year. Think I'll stick with this strain for 50% since I now know where I stand. And then I really want to try some Cali autoflower strains. Runtz, Weddingcake, Gelato, something along those lines. Do people have experience with this, which are the tastiest Cali strains with smell and taste of 2022? And which seedshop is certainly reliable?
This is because Sensi does not really have everything in the Cali strains yet.
What about the taste and effect?
I smoked 1 and the taste was very good for an Dutch outdoor, bit sour and personally i like that.
My friends smoke it and majority likes it, and are amazed it was grown outdoor in Holland.
Nice job. I had a similar experience trying to grow lots of autos…seems like more can go wrong with autos, more liable to be stunted by a cold overnight temperature, etc. Cheers.
@Northern_Ent, yes autoflowers are very stress sensitive. Even moving the plant to another spot in the garden during flowering felt like stress was my thoughts.
