I grow using topfed DWC in a 10 gallon tub and a LED light (rated 450w, actual ~210w draw on flower setting, ~150 on veg). I have two air stones. I tend to have 6 gallons of water in my reservoir. Up until recently, I also tended to grow one plant at a time from seed in my smallish tent in a closet. I don't have a distinct seedling, veg and bloom space but I've been experimenting with my last couple grows on how to have two plants going at the same time. See my Dinafem Purple Moby Dick grow that I had as a seedling in the same tent as my Dutch Passion Think Different Autoflower was finishing. I could do this because I kept their reservoirs distinct using a little bucket for the seedling inside the main reservoir, the Think Different was on a 20 hour light cycle because it was an Auto which worked for a seedling photoperiod plant, and I used heavy glass to protect the seedling from the LED light while it was really little. So it took some doing, but I had a 2 plants going at once.
For this grow, I'm wrapping up the Dinafem Purple Moby Dick on 12-12 so I couldn't have a seedling in there if I wanted a real veg period, which I do. My solution was take one of my two air stones and run it outside my grow tent and leave the other in the main reservoir. I put that air stone in a two gallon bucket with a lid that I got at Home Depot for less than $5. I am referring this as my seedling rig. The two gallon bucket was big enough for a top feeding pump as well. I am using a weak fluorescent light for the first few weeks until the main tent and LED light are available. It is still topfed DWC, but it should only be used for the first couple weeks of a seedling's life as I don't have airflow and the florescent light is not powerful enough for a real plant.
I used the paper towel method to start the seed. She started to crack after 24 hours and I put her in the medium at 48 hours. No issues with germination.
I didn't put the weak fluorescent light close enough to the seedling so I am dealing with some stretch right now. My bad. I am not used to weak lights. Otherwise though, she is a week old and already has a root in the reservoir and others on the way. The picture above is not great but you can see the little white roots heading down.. I am not sure but I don't think my few other plants have ever had a root in the reservoir that fast. I just need to protect her and keep her from stretching and I think she'll be beastly when I get her under some real lights.
I am super excited to try these genes!
@GrowFanatic, Thanks for your comment and thanks for following! To grow any strain from seed is an investment. Based on awards given and comments I've heard on YouTube and other places, I think this strain is special. We'll see how the next 6 weeks or so go though. Hoping for the best. I'll definitely finish this grow and journal.
Hello bro ! Glad to see it's going quicker than expected , with your hydro system you win a week or 2 compared to a soil grow! Nice done ! I am also a smell fetishists 😂🤣 : so how does she smell ?
@@Greenjum, too bad about the hermies. 14-15 weeks is a long time for an auto! I've done a few auto but they are always supposed to take 8 weeks and end up taking 11 for me. So I just do normal photo period now. Good luck to you in the future!
Check out my 2nd grow, I'm using a bread tie that jams into the rockwool (not too deep so as not to cut any root) and forms a circle to help hold up the stem. It works really great, also keep rotating it to make it stronger.
