(The Legendary PNW Dogshit clone x Face Off OG bx1 Male)
Archive Seeds Poochie Love is one of my all time FAVORITE strains to cultivate and I can't wait to get this run going!
"The legendary PNW Dog Shit. As terrible as the name is, the variety that bears the name is a Pacific Northwest legend almost as well documented as Big Foot! Sure to please the most demanding Sativa Connoisseurs, her legendary high, aroma, and smoke left every seasoned smoker with shit eating grin and the crowds at concerts rubber-necking looking for the source of the heavenly aroma. In the days of covert smoking, a funny name always kept people guessing what was really being discussed, and I’m sure many a passer-by wondered, “were those kids really talking about smoking dog shit”? It’s true, but not true to the name, this herb is anything but shitty. A clone brought from the Midwest to Portland Oregon in 1994, she has been caringly passed and preserved ever since. A 12 week flower time shines through owing to her likely Columbian/Punta Roja Red Heritage from equatorial Sativas. Thin leaves, beautiful large trichome heads and a stretchy dominating stature in the grow room. She wants all the lights and isn’t afraid to take it. Her aroma is dark dank sweet haze emanating through a cloak of tropical mystical fruit punch funk with a potency that is unrivaled."**
The internodal spacing on this strain is perfect for massive, densely stacked flowers but be prepared to train and religiously remove and tuck leaves to give the lower portions lots of light as these girls can get quite bushy. Poochie Love's flowers have a long structure with semi-pointed tips and an excellent leaf/calyx ratio!
The smell from her flowers is a strong earthy aroma with hints of skunk, herbs & spices which carry over to your palate when smoked. This sativa dominate cultivar is best for daytime ingestion as it has a definite 'up high' which you immediately feel in your temples. It's great for being creative and expressing yourself through art and other mediums due to it's mainly energizing, psychedelic effects. After a couple of hours the Indica side of her genetics makes her appearance known by a light pressure behind your eyes, which then spreads slowly throughout your body."*
All in all, this strain from Archive Seed Bank checks off ALL the boxes and I guarantee this will not be the last time I run this one! ❤️❤️❤️
This is a 'non-feminized' seed and I ran across this article by Dutch Passion Genetics that I found really informative, and thought I'd pass it along:
"As a cannabis grower I always believed that weed seed was genetically predisposed to its sexual orientation as soon as fertilization of the ovule took place in the female. Basically this means that if you take a single female marijuana plant and produced cannabis seeds from her that the ratios are already set in the offspring. If a gender detection test could be established the males could be separated from the females there are then. If this were true then the breeder’s packs of ten seeds per pack could easily turn out to be all males or all females because of this genetic predisposition. However this is not the case!
Apparently environmental influences affect the sex of the female cannabis seeds as well. Because of the fact that Female cannabis seeds do not grow into female cannabis plants under all circumstances. Thus we changed the name from "Female Cannabis Seeds" into "Feminized Cannabis Seeds".
From literature and from our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or a female cannabis plant from cannabis seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. Not only the origination of entirely male or female cannabis plants is partly affected by these environmental factors, the number of male and female cannabis flowers on a hermaphrodite plant is affected as well.
The environmental factors that influence the sex of the cannabis plant (or the flower in the case of hermaphrodites), are among other things:
The quantity of nitrogen and potassium of the seedbed. Humidity and moistness of the seedbed.
Level of temperatures.
Color of the light used.
Length of daylight.
Stress, any form of stress, makes that more male individuals will originate from seed. Even the taking of cuttings from female cannabis plants may produce male or hermaphrodite cuttings.
To optimize the result, changes in one or more of the above-mentioned environmental factors for a certain period during cannabis growth, may be applied. During this time these environmental factors will deviate from the standard growing system for maximum harvest and quality, as described in nursery literature. The desired change(s) in the environmental factor(s) are started from the moment that the cannabis seedling has three pairs of real leaves (not counting the seed-lobes). This is the moment that male and/or female predisposition in florescence is being formed. After approximately two weeks the standard growing system can be reconverted to.
Of the 5 above-mentioned environmental factors the first three are the most practical:
1. Level of nitrogen and potassium of the seedbed: A heightening of the standard level of nitrogen makes for more female cannabis plants originating from the weed seeds. A lowering of the nitrogen level shows more male cannabis plants. A heightening of the level of potassium tends to show more male cannabis plants, while a lowering of the potassium level shows more female cannabis plants. A combination of a higher nitrogen level for the period of a week or two and a lowering of the potassium level is recommended.
2. Humidity and moistness of the seedbed: a higher humidity makes for an increase in the number of female cannabis plants from weed seed, a lowering for an increase in male cannabis plants. The same is valid for the moistness of the seedbed.
3. Level of temperatures: lower temperatures make for a larger number of female cannabis plants, higher temperatures for more male cannabis plants.
4. Color of light: more blue light makes for female cannabis plants from seed, more red light makes for more male cannabis plants.
5. Hours of daylight: few hours of daylight (e.g. 14 hours) makes for more female individuals, a long day (e.g. 18 hours) makes for more male cannabis plants.
Now let me just make a few adjustments here to this. You can do whatever you want to your cannabis plants in seedling stage and early vegetative stage of growth and it will not effect your final male to female ratios. The time when things should be near perfect is in or around the 3rd to 4th week of vegetative growth.
This is the CRITICAL TIME for getting those female ratios up and up. I realized this clearly when noticing how some cannabis plants hermed because of problems that occurred around this period of the cannabis plants development. If the problems occurred before this time - no herms. So for this reason I surmised that this is when the crucial gender selection is made by the cannabis plant.
Now I believe that the genders are set in the weed seed however the environment has a massive impact on how this is expressed in the final phenotypic expression of the cannabis plants gender. There are probably many genes that govern this, however lets get into how to up these female ratios.
The Italian Society of Agricultural Genetics agrees the sexual differentiation of cannabis is strongly influenced by environmental factors such as temperature and photoperiod. Anomalies also occur in floral development like the presence of reproductive structures of the opposite sex, or the development of bisexual inflorescence's (monoecious phenotype).
At the 3rd to 4th week of vegetative growth make sure that your cannabis plants are free from stress. No pests attacks, no fungi attacks, no mold, no irregular photoperiod, not under-watered, not over-watered, not pruned or topped, a cannabis friendly soil mix, not recently transplanted, no small pots. If have these basic growing conditions under control then we can move onto the real forces of female production from standard weed seeds.
NPK and nutrients. What this simply boils down to is that you have the right nutrients present in the right ratios. A nutrient formulation that has roughly equal parts N, P and K is great but if the P levels go up or the N levels go down you are starting to look at a flowering type food for cannabis. If you do this then your odds of producing mostly females is greatly decreased. Make sure that you get those N, P and K levels to almost run from higher to lower amounts from N to P and K.
I have noticed that equal portions of N to P an K can help with the female ratios but the higher N is certainly more helpful. So around the 3rd of 4th week of growth make sure that the ratios are good and that P or K has not gone above the N and P or else more males will occur. Obviously this means to avoid overfeeding your cannabis plants around this time too.
Never let your medium dry out completely around the 3rd to 4th week of vegetative cannabis growth. If you make sure to water occasionally, but not to over-water your cannabis plants, you will get those female ratios on the up and up. Over-watering or drying out of the medium will only produce more males. For consistent results in getting more females keeps those mediums moist.
Humidity. Now this is the tricky one. High humidity levels only promote fungi and mold development and lowering humidity levels is the way to cure most of this rot but by keeping those humidity levels up in or around the 70 RH factor will help to produce more females. If you have a low humidity grow room then you should get to hold of a humidifier. Now high humidity levels like 70rH cause the medium to dry out a lot quicker so you got to keep this under control too. Keep those mediums moist and those RH levels at 70. This will help to improve those female to male ratios. Again, getting them on the up and up.
If you run the 24/0 photoperiod then do not allow those temps to go anywhere above 85F unless you have an equatorial strain. 75F is the best but going a little lower is not a problem for helping those female ratios. If you can get in at around 65F then those females are going to be popping up all over the place. The problem with this is that some growers like to use the 18/6 photoperiod and when the lights are off the temps drop from around 65F to 50F and even less. Try not to be below 55F because this has the adverse effect on the plants producing more males than females. Again between 65F and 75F is where you want to be during the 3rd to 4th week of vegetative growth, the preference being 70F.
No stress during the 3rd to 4th week of vegetative growth. That is all there is to it. If you got your garden growing in optimal conditions without cannabis plant stress then the impressive 90% to 95% females start to emerge from standard cannabis seed packs. I find that topping is best done at the second to third week of vegetative growth but that this is a little stressful and can lead to those female ratios dropping again. Avoid topping or pruning if you are looking to up the female count."**

Weekly Updates:
1/24- Here we go into the 5th week of veg for the Poochie Love by Archive Seed Bank and this 'girl' is really taking off!
I'm keeping a super close eye on the Poochie Love, looking for any signs that it is a male (hopefully will be female!) using close up pictures to see in detail exactly what's occurring. Hopefully, keeping the temp's down, the medium moist, dropping the light cycle to 16hrs and increasing the Nitrogen will convince it to be a beautiful young lady!
I went ahead and top dressed the Poochie Love today with 1/2 cup of Gaia Green 4-4-4, 1/4 cup of Gaia Green 2-8-4 and 1/4 cup of Down To Earth 7-3-1 Bat Guano (for an extra boost of N) which I worked into the medium by hand. After working in the dry amendments, I watered them in with .5g of well water that was ph'd to 6.5 @ 72℉.
1/26- The Archive Seed's Poochie Love's medium was still nice and moist today and her pot was still fairly heavy so I did not water and just let her do her thing! After being topped for the 2nd time she really didn't exhibit any signs of stress at all and has continued to grow rapidly! I'm so stoked to see what this strain does as it's my first attempt cultivating it and I've heard nothing but great things about it!
1/28- I watered the Poochie Love today from the top with .5g of well water to which I added 2 tsp/g of Unsulfured Black Strap Molasses, then ph'd to 6.4 @ 74℉.
The Poochie Love has fantastic color, vigor and overall is looking very happy! I am still closely monitoring several nodes on the plant to be able to catch any sign that I have a male. I have decided, because this is such a great strain and this plant has beautiful structure, that if it does turn out to be male I'll remove it from the grow area and continue to grow it outdoors and, hopefully, collect some pollen for some future experiments... Either way it's a win as I see it! 😎👍
1/30- Today I did some LST on the Poochie Love, bending/twisting her main four branches to help increase light penetration down into the center of the plant and to begin to get an even canopy for when the trellis goes up (she's growing along with four other photoperiods in a 4x8). I also removed a couple of large shade leaves that were blocking light into the center and that refused to stay tucked away.
There goes five weeks of veg for this one and Week Six should see the Poochie Love continue its rapid growth and possibly we'll have a determination on whether it's a girl or a boy!
💚 Thank you for checking out my passion in life! Please visit as often as you wish and I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I know I will! Grow what you love, Love what you grow!💚
@love_2_grow, Thank you so very much!❤️ This run is going to be super fun, this strain is unbelievable!🤪 May your days and grows be Blessed throughout this New Year and always!😎🙏❤️
@GrowinG_Practitioner, I can't thank you enough, you're too kind! I love to write, photography and growing... a match made in Heaven! May all your days and grows be Blessed! 😎🙏❤️
I love your passion, it's shows in your write up.
Check out my diary, all organic, I don't buy inputs. All homemade. Trying to get everyone on here to at least make one input themselves. I think you will appreciate what I do.
❤️
I would have loved some pollen from that male. Poochie Love Is my GFs Medical that helps her get up and moving suffering with R.A. She was able to collect some seeds along the way, seems every couple of Culta grows she was obtaining from the despo,
1 or 2 seeds made it through. Seems they were doing about 2 grows a year, but with that flowering time haven't seen it in a year. Unbelievable that on July 1 2023 My State allows 4 plants Medical, 2 plants recreational. In calibration of this event she handed me her stash. I will fill in a diary of the 2 grows I've done so far. Let me just say the results were way beyond any of the Culta grows. Did you buy your seeds? If so?
@Crispy_Bacon, Yes, it was a really nice male, and I regret not finishing it out. I originally scored the seeds in a 'seeded' quarter from a local dispo. First plant I grew was a gorgeous female, second attempt was male. I still have 2-3 seeds left and am thinking of trying an outdoor grow this spring. Archive Seed Bank carries Poochie Love seeds @ $150 for 12 regs, but are out of stock most of the time.
