A little bit of trouble this week... I’m having heat issues... I live close to the equator, so it should always hot as shit over here. In addition to tham, my plant’s color is getting lighter and slowly falling off easily, Am I having nute def or ph lockout? I changed the res today and filled it with an nute.

Do you guys usually bring the ppm down towards the end? I have issues with nute burn and something that represents cal mag def looking, every time I get to the mid-to-end flowering.

By the look of your pictures, you already have Nitrogen toxicity (dark green leaves), you should cut back on the grow nutrients. Your cal mag dose is good enough and even a little on the high side, so I think what you experience is not exactly calcium or magnesium deficiency but lockout. Calcium and magnesium are locked out when there's an excess of phosphorous and / or potassium. The burnt tips on leaves support the theory that you are over feeding your plant.

This peltier cooler works wonders... I am able to reach down to 62F (5Gal bucket) within the roots while the tent temperature is 81F. I am highly impressed. I have another cooler that I will add to my other bucket.

@MaryJaneUSA I have done some research on this myself as I have a hydro basin. Lots of theories out there. I try to stick with the scientific ones. The final consensus is 62-72 degrees, with the sweet spot of 66-72. I saw a lot of warnings about anything below 62. Your low of 59 could describe the slow plant growth. Maybe put the chiller on a timer like on for one hour, off for 30 min, then back on again? Good luck!

@BeefWellingtons, thanks man, I know I got lazy with pictures... also I did a res change yesterday, rinsed the roots but did not do H2O2 solution as this is a temporary solution... I did add extra dose of Hydroguard, added b52 and piranha, just gonna see how it works out on a few days. I didn’t adjust my res temp but it fluctuates between 63-67F, I have 2, 4 inch airstones but I’m thinking about adding 2 more in there since I have an extra 254 gal pump

@MaryJaneUSA, well, then here are some ideas. First, please use a flash when taking pics so we can see what you see.led pics don't show anything helpful, except for size and shape. High Times recommends 75f (yes, 75f water basin), but that seems to be in professional, and optimal conditions. I have seen people lift the top of bucket, and dip the roots into hydrogen peroxide bath for 30 seconds, as well as add some to the basin. While this will kill off the pythium, it will also kill off beneficial stuff as well. Anyway, clean out the basin (use a light bleach spray, then rinse), add new bennies and ro or filtered water, ph it perfect 5.8 or so. Make sure you have the full recommended hydroguard in there, and move the avg temp up to 69. I have seen browning roots come back and go white again with hydroguard use at higher temps than what you have. Last, but not least, are you sure your air stone is pumping out strong? You could try getting a stronger air pump and put two airstones in there?pythium thrives in low oxygen water, and can't survive in high oxygenated water (this might be the trick). Please don't forget some root pictures with flash. Good luck!

@BeefWellingtons, it’s now around 65 degrees but I think I have root rot... I’m not sure how I got it

Love your set up! Hydroponic, LED, main-ling. I'm doing all those things now too. I'll be following with interest. She looks happy. Good luck with your grow! I'm going to look into a cooler after seeing yours. Also, if you think you might have an issue with root rot, I 100% recommend Hydroguard by Botanicare. It's cheap and works! I have grown hydroponically from seed to harvest for a couple years now and never had an issue. I'm still on my first quart of the stuff too. Good luck!

@NorCalCloset, no problem... whatever can help you for a better yield!

@MaryJaneUSA, Thanks very much for the input. I'm a stingy bastard :-) so I appreciate hearing about the cheaper way to get it done. I'll look into it and thanks again!

MaryJaneUSAcommented6 years ago
@NorCalCloset, also you can make a dyi peltier cooler on eBay for like $10 a pop but then you’d need a pc cooling fan and a power converter, I bought mine from coolworks so it was more expensive. But sometimes you can catch a really good deal; bought a used peltier cooler with temp controller for $75 on eBay. New ones will cost you 130+70=$200 in which this case, you should just invest in a water cooler lol. But if you get a water cooler, you need water pump and etc. the peltier cooler actually has a probe that touches the water in your bucket and cools it.

I have been looking for a bucket like this. 5 gallon, 6 inch net basket, 2 airstones, aquarium water chiller, insulated, and finally a top-drip water feeder (that I can put on a timer for 2 15min intervals in 24hour period). Thing is, no one makes these. What size hole/drill bit did you use for the chiller? Do you have top-down water feeding? Thanks again, great job there!
MaryJaneUSA
MaryJaneUSAcommented6 years ago
@BeefWellingtons, thank you so much for the compliment.. I used a 1 1/4 inch drill. I am using coolworks peltier cooler. And no i am not doing a top feeding just regular DWC. I am using refletix insulator and works wonders

BeefWellingtonscommentedweek 16 years ago
Oh man, you deserve it. This build is incredible!! How many degrees do you get off of insulation alone?
MaryJaneUSA
MaryJaneUSAcommented6 years ago
@BeefWellingtons, hey so I realized I have my peltier cooler on 24/7 right now because of summer. So I haven’t had the time to try to actually shut the cooler off and see with insulation but with the insulation alone I’m guessing 5-10 degrees F in differences because with the cooler I am able to go down to 61-62 F when the ambient temp goes up to 83F
MaryJaneUSA
MaryJaneUSAcommented6 years ago
@BeefWellingtons, Honestly, that is a very good question because I have the peltier cooler on only during the day (18/6 light cycle) when the indoor temp is very high, which is around low 80s. So I will check it out and let you know.
