Sun Dec 18 - I will be soaking the seeds in the 1% Hydrogen Peroxide & Water solution from the University of Alberta study bio-protocol3875.pdf - You soak it for up to 3 days in the solution. Each day, you refresh the solution with fresh water and H2O2 - The study was done in the dark in room temp, but I decided to put the container on a heat mat as the water felt cold to the touch despite the ambient room temp being 24° Mon Dec 19 - I put the heat mat probe into the water to ensure a light-warm temp. I covered the container so that the seeds do not get exposed to light while in the solution - The study showed that it should take approx 3 days. - I really hope this works as I had a disasterous germination for the AK-47 a couple of weeks ago. Tue Dec 20 - I checked on the seeds and every one of them had a tap root showing. 2 of them, the seed shell was completely gone! - It was literally just the taproot with the cotyledons. - I immediately planted all of the seeds into the plug and put it into the propogator. - I put the propogator back onto the heat mat - I am a little concerned about the 2 roots that had already exited their seed shells, but logically, once the taproot leaves the shell and you put it into the plugs, the root grow and it trys to shed it's shell, so I do think that it'll be fine. - in the science study about germination, they mentioned a few of the roots shedding their shells and they still worked out when planted into soil. Wed Dec 21 - I watered the plugs. None of the seedlings have popped from their soil yet, but I can tell that they are about to. Thu Dec 22 - every seed has now poped from the soil except one…The one that hasn't still might. - The seedling are still very small and weak and will need at least a week in the propagator. - How I determine when to plant the seedlings into their grow bags is when I left up the plugs and see roots protruding from the plug. - Even the 2 seedlings that had already shed their seeds prior to planting into the plug has popped from the soil - which is a relief… I had no idea if they would work or not. Fri Dec 23 - I watered the plugs. - I think one seedling is fucked…I was trying to open the cotyledons because if the do not open after a certain length of time, the seedling will die. While I was trying to open them, the entire head of the seedling fell off. I did re-embed the root base into the plug and it actually looks like it's trying to grow again. I'm not holding out hope, but it's interesting to see what will happen. - The roots of the two seedlings that had shed their seeds prior to planting aren't really developing ver fast or at all. They did grow from just being a root with a cotyledons, but they are significantly smaller than the other seedlings
