The seed struggled to emerge from the jiffy pellet because the top part of the pellet was compacted. once it was loosened (5 days after putting the seed in) it shot up. The initial soak was with filtered tap water. The pellet was left in a pudding basin with a lid to keep humidity up. Worked well. Transferred seedling in the pellet to a one litre pot 5 days after initial planting. Used a 70/30 Coco coir/perlite mix, watered with a nutrient and calcium enriched water at pH 5.8. Struggled to get control of temps but finally found a fan strength that maintained the grow space at 25C. Humidity has stabilized at 50 but did dip as low at 35 at one point. Day 7 the first serrated leaves appeared. Second set of serrated leaves emerged on day 5.

Day 8: watered with nutrients. pH of run off was 6. Day 9: watered with no nutrients. Day 11 watered with nutrients. Day 12 prepared Coco/perlite mix in bigger pot. Soaked the mix in about 3 litres of nutrient water to prepare it for transfer. Day 13: transferred plant over to main pot. Nice root development in smaller pot. Next time SKIP THE SMALLER POT. Day 14: watered with plain water.

Day 15: watered with no-nute water. Day 18: checked plant in the morning, it was drooping due to lack of water. I gave it a good soak with nutrient water. Perked up within a couple of hours. Gave it an additional small no-nute watering later that evening. Day 20: nute water added, about 1 litre. Day 21: added 1.5 litres of no-nute water to give a decent amount of runoff. Started LST - bent main stem to side.

Day 22: I noticed patches on some leaves. Looks like pH fluctuation. Must make sure my nute and no-nute water have similar pH's. Day 23: bent the main stem over a little more to flatten the canopy. New bud sites shooting up. The plant is getting very bushy now. Day 24: fed with nutrient water. I think the bronze patches may have been down to a nutrient deficiency. The pH of the run off is 6.1, which is fine. I'll keep feeding it nutrient water from this point on until I flush towards the end. Day 26: the plant seems to be recovering. I think the problem was actually over watering. I have removed the badly effected leaves and did some LST to spread the canopy out. The leaves are starting to perk up again. Day 27: watered with nutrients

Day 28 the leaves looked a little droopy after feeding but they bounced right back today (Day 29). I did some LST to flatten the canopy a bit. Unclear if the plant has started to flower. Day 30: did some light defoliation as the plant was very bushy. Day 31: light watering with nutrients. Day 32: heavier watering with no nutes. The leaves went droopy the following day. It seems if I add enough water for it to seep out the bottom the plant droops the following day. There must be a drainage problem (odd given its 70% Coco / 30% perlite).

Day 36: clear signs of flowering. Watered with no nutrients (not enough to seep out of bottom). Leaves still droopy and very dark green. Day 37: have a good watering with nutrients. Day 38: leaves a lot perkier. Day 41: it's becoming clear the plant starts to droop if i leave it without water for more than 24 hours. I think I'll water once every 12 hours from now on. Day 42: plant is looking great. Watering twice a day is really paying dividends.

Day 43: plant getting dangerously close to bin lid. Day 45: plant was getting too big for the space bucket so I cut a hole in the bottom so I could raise the bucket but leave the pot at ground level. Earned me back about 12 inches in height. Also bought a little fan to keep the air moving around the canopy. I've also upped the nutrients to 500ppm but lowered the Cal mag.

I'm in a nice routine now of watering every 12 hours with 1.5 litres of nutrient water. Every third watering or so I add plain water that has some cal mag in it. The plant seems to like this schedule. My exhaust fan failed overnight. Humidity rose to 95% and there were drips everywhere in the space bucket. I added a fan to create some airflow near the top and that seems to have sorted the problem, but the humidity is higher than it was (now at 70 but I'm hoping it'll drop over night). Was away for a few days. Temp has settled at 24C and the humidity is at 55. Happy with that.

Beautiful smell from the plant. Very citrussy with hints of lemongrass. Did a little more defoliation on day 62 to get rid of excess leaves below the canopy. Day 66 I really started to notice buds forming for the first time. The colas are thickening slowly but surely. I also did some light defoliation to allow more air and light to the lower parts of each cola. Worried I have some bud rot forming. See pics from day 68. Could just be a purple hue?

I think I may have some bud rot. See pics from day 68 (week 9). Any thoughts? Could it just be a purple tinge to the buds?

Really hard to tell. is in on every bud? do you have more purpeling=?or is it only the one. Because its blue Cheese there is apurpeling common. But try as Athos said to open one bud and if its more grey and got hairs and no good smell ..its budrot. Bud we cross fingers its just apurpeling. try to lower the humidity... better is Humidity around the 50 percent .

Hello ! I live in a 70% constant humidity level so next time you wanna know if their is a rot inside of a bud then search for yellowing leaves , generally if leaf is yellowing in the middle of a green bud then pull it and if it easily coming then open your bud to watch what's going one : this is how I discover my early undercover bud rot issues. I hope it will help you 😁👍

mmm... hard to tell. It looks like a purple / dark tinted bud. To be sure, I recommend that you try to break the bud a little, if it is bud rot you will notice inmediately, since it starts inside the bud an dit will come apart / break really easy

Still worried I have mould problems. I've been able to bring the humidity down from 65 to 53. I also added Canna Boost to the nutrient schedule. The plant is very frosty but looks like it has light burn or the effects of mould on the leaves. I might be wrong though.

Stopped using nutes to flush the plant in preparation for harvest. The buds are looking good. I created a new grow chamber with humidity and temperature control and a fan to keep air moving. I've been able to bring the humidity down to 40 no problem. I'll never go back to a space bucket!

The plant went through several stages. It started very strongly and responded well to training. Very busy and vigorous. Then it started to droop and show signs of what I thought was pH fluctuation (even though I controlled the pH carefully at 6). I think in the end I just wasn't feeding it enough given the Coco coir medium requirements. Once I began feeding twice a day it responded very well. The last month or so I had done equipment failures (one of the fans died) and I lost control of humidity levels - they went very high. I thought I had maybe started to develop mould problems but once I changed to a new setup where I was able to keep the humidity at 40 and blow fresh air around, the problems disappeared and it was plain sailing from that point on. In the end the colas were healthy if a little airy. They were also incredibly sticky and beautiful smelling. I got lost of citrus, pine and watermelon. No cheesy character though. All in all I'm looking forward to seeing how the drying goes (temp at 21, humidity at 49) and then the curing. Update: drying happened very quickly resulting in really dry crispy bud. It smells beautiful though, sweet and citrussy. The high is very smooth and euphoric. Great stuff! Really enjoyed this first grow!0

@Budley,Yes I do i usually do a good defoliation at day 21 of flowers so you’re pretty much there

@Tonino, do you think it would be worthwhile defoliating a bit more to give the colas more room to breath?

what have you done against the mold=? did you open one bud to look=?.... mol gets worse the longer it takes. if you have only one piece in it ,got to cut it ridiculus . the most mold is inside so you dont see how bad it is

yes i am also thinking pH fluctuation did you check your ph at run off ?
Budley
Budleycommented6 years ago
@Tonino, pH of run off was 6, pretty much perfect for Coco coir. I think I may have been underfeeding the plant. I've given it a bigger dose of nutrients and it's starting to look a bit better. I'll prune the leaves with the brown patches in the next few days

@Dadasgrow, it was going perfectly until earlier this week. I think the problem is a lack of calcium/magnesium. Should be an easy fix. Time will tell!
