3/23 - I was inspired to try a bonsai. I already had the cutting from trying to sex my other grow. The #2 pheno sprouted pistils before the cutting did. So this is female. She had a few roots starting, so it seemed like the right time. Stay tuned to see what's inside the solo cup. Fingers crossed, this works and the plant survives.
3/27 - she's turning up a bit, seems like she might be rooting well. The soil is a bit moist for my liking. Hopefully she drinks it up
4/1 - raised the lights up as high as they go. I taped down a leaf, but she slipped out and wants to grow up. She needs a light trim for shape.
4/2 - trimmed off a couple leaves and added another clip to maintain form
4/4 - fed and watered a bit, just enough to flood the cup, sink in, flood again, maybe a cup of water or so.
4/7 - moved her into the flower tent with the other Yodas. She seems to be growing well, so the roots are probably established. Gonna let her flower at this tiny size and see what happens.
4/8 - gave her a drink with some nutes, just flooded the solo cup, let sink in, then flood again. Also gave a bit to the orchid pot to ensure a deep watering and encourage the roots to dig deep.
4/9 - some light defoliating and bending
4/15 - trimmed up a bit, decided to go with an alternating branch pattern, so removed the branches from one side and from along the underside. The topside branches are bent over, letting the side branches grow up. Also letting the main top start to grow up. And gave it a bit of water with nutrients today.
4/20 - defoliated, looking more like a bonsai, had to reinforce the top end of the plant, it grew strong enough to pull the clip out of the soil
4/24 - tried to remove the solo cup for a root reveal. It looks okay from the sides but it's obvious it's a cutting from the back. The root reveal would work better, look more natural, if started from seed.
4/25 - slept on it and decided to repot. Potted her up into this ceramic elephant pot
5/5 - removed some leaves. They were looking to be light damaged, if I were to guess. The plant seems as happy as a restricted plant could be. So, removed the leaves and keeping everything as is. Also, watered and fed, gave her about a cup.
5/22 - everyone else got a drink, so this one got a sip too. Gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients. Her small size has her looking a couple weeks behind the mother, and no purple coloring yet.
5/27 - starting to see some purple in the leaf tips, she seems to be a but behind the mother plant, but the higher light intensity seems to make her more purple, i.e., the lower leaves of the mother are still green. And this one sits a bit farther from the light than mom.
5/29 - fed and watered a bit, will probably start flushing with the next watering.
This was a cutting that I took and flipped to try to determine the plant's sex. The mother showed sooner than this, so I figured let's have some fun and try a bonsai with it. Definitely a unique experience. It gave me more insight to how fast these grow because I was purposefully trying to keep it small. You will learn more about the plant from trying this. I would like to try another bonsai from seed.
I learned so much from this. I learned how to clone, a.k.a. propagate from a cutting. I learned more about LST, and different techniques to LST. I learned how to shape a plant as a bonsai. And I managed to keep it alive long enough to harvest it.
Have you seen the Cannabis bonsai man on YouTube? I stumbled on his channel and my man has some great looking bonsai. Stoked to see the “happiness” this bonsai brings you. It’s the best of both worlds, mental stability growing her, then more mental stability smoking her. 💯
