Originally planned to do in coco coir. Things came up and now switched to a hydro grow. Had the plants start off in rockwool until tap root visible from block. Strawberry had cotyledons out three days before Sour did, so showing the best growth thus far. All this information as of day eight from seed. pH kept between 5.8 and 6.0. Plan on doing first real feeding a week from now.
I didn't skip a week! Just realized my start date was wrong and the girls are a week older than I thought. Also, apologizes for the lack of photos. Taken more, but they really show no real progress.
Early in the week, switched to coco instead of DWC. Was having problems regulating the pH (faulty pH tester -- new one on way) and didn't want to risk failing another grow. So far, the girls don't seem to mind the change. After the transplant, I've been noticing a steady increase in size with both strains, so hopefully for week three we'll see them really take off.
Long week of messing around with the plants. I'll spare you all the details.
• Added hydroton to the top of the soil. Helps keep the medium moist longer and stops the plants from being knocked over during watering
• Finally got around to making a drainable setup to better monitor ppm. Output has always been double the input, so flushed at half strength and going to try and stick around 600 ppm feedings now
• Plan on reducing watering to twice a day. The medium doesn't dry out as quickly due to the worm castings.
• Finalizing doing a 24/0 light schedule for them. Want to try and get them as large as possible before the end of next month
At this point, I pretty much plan on leaving them alone. Will do some LST if they start to show more vigorous growth
Next day after posting previous update, they begun showing signs of preflower. Since then, they've started stretching a lot.
Started LST on them to maximize the small space I do have. Strawberry is drinking more than the Sour is, but overall both plants are happy and healthy.
Missed last week due to moving in progress.
Sour Crinkle shows very little pistils compared to her sister. Her ppm run off is always higher than her sister as well, so I'm thinking the stunned growth is due to lockout. This week though she has showed some promising growth to where I needed to defoliate her a bit.
Forbidden Strawberry is definitely the prize of this grow. Pretty much feed both girls the same amount every watering, yet the run off for FS is -200 of what I put in, so she's definitely eating. Going to reduce the ppm of the feed for SC, but leave FS where she's at.
Finished move and a new, larger tent. Was hoping to have had an outdoor grow started by now, but seeds still have yet to arrive. Will try to return to weekly posts until harvest.
FB is doing wonderfully and has the tent smelling like actual strawberries. If she smokes as good as she smells, I'll definitely do another grow with this strain.
SC on the other hand seem to be slow...? Both plants germinated at the same time and has had the same exact feedings, yet no buds on the SC with pistols only really showing now. Seems to still be focusing it's growth on leaves. Had to defoliate her once a week for the past four weeks and still exploding in leaves growth and not so much flowers.
Gave both plants a SST watering, so the stuff on the leaves is just residual from that.
Suppose to be done in the next week, but from the looks of it, FB has about another month. As for SC, no idea what's going on with her.
Been busy and have been watering once every day or two. Got back on track last night and checked output PPM. In the high 3k (input ~1.2k). Plan on reducing PPM of nutrients to about half what I usually feed and return back feeding several times a day.
Got impatience the other night and decided to vape a sugar leaf to see if it actually taste the way it smells. Had hints of berry to it and somewhat sweet on the tongue. Had thought about stopping since all the stuff sold by dispensaries in the area is usually bad, but this really surprised me.
Growing this plant rejuvenated my interest in weed. Though I've only been able to vape a few wet buds the taste and feeling I got from it was incredible. If they smoke just as good dry as they do wet, this will swear me off of buying from my local dispensaries.
Barely any amber on her, but I decided to harvest before that point since the high it gave me was relaxing, but not enough to interfere with work or other activities. Will be growing this strain again for sure.
