First time grower here. Thought I’d try autos to try to get two harvests this summer. Starting indoor for a couple of weeks till they’re big enough for me to feel comfortable putting them outside. Using a weak grow light to get them through seedling stage.

These pics were taken at the end of the third week. I was out of town for four days and was not there to overwater them, so I guess that worked out well. The last pictures show some damage caused by some sort of pest. Maybe some of you experienced growers can help me identify what type of pest it was.

End of the fourth week. Plants are doing nicely. Did a defoliation yesterday and forgot to take a picture before I did that. They were quite a bit more bushy then. I have one little girl that is two weeks behind the others because one of my original six did not ever pop its head above the surface. She was already growing kind of slowly, and when I went to transplant her yesterday, the soil ball fell apart on me. That is most likely going to stress her out quite a bit and slow her down even more. But I’m confident she will recover.

End of 5th week and the plants are doing well. I was going to be out of town for a week, and it was very windy the day before I left, so I brought my plants inside onto my kitchen table. I watered and fed them the day before I left, and the plants sat inside my kitchen under a normal kitchen light for six days. Surprisingly, they stayed very healthy under that kitchen light. I think they would have grown even more if they were outside under the sun, but I’m still happy with how they came out. These are all Auto’s and still no sign of preflowering that I can see.

Plants seem to be doing great. I may have defoliated them a bit too much. Removed most of the fan leaves because they were blocking sun to the new growth and future flower sites. All the research I’ve done indicates that I should let my plants tell me when they need to be watered, and at the moment that’s once a week with a full gallon for each plant. With the weather getting hotter, though, I feel like I should try feeding them more often to see if that will result in more rapid growth. They’re at the end of the sixth week, and still no signs of preflowering. I’m starting to kind of worry that these might be photo periods instead of Auto’s.

End of week 7 and the plants are still doing well. Although I had a scare earlier in the week. On Tuesday, the plants looked as healthy as they have ever looked. I had to work late on Wednesday and I was not able to check on them at all that day. When I got home from work the next day, the plants looked like they were almost dead. Very shriveled up. I gave them each a gallon of water and within a couple of hours they perked back up. They all had several yellowing and even brown and crispy leaves that I had to remove. I have been watering them more often and they seem to be doing fine now. End of week 7 for these auto flowers, and still no sign of preflowering.

End of week 8. Plants are still doing well. Continuing to feed, water, and defoliate. These are supposed to be Auto flowers, but after 8 weeks of veg, and no signs of preflowering, I’m pretty much assuming these are actually photos.

End of 9th week. The plants are still doing well. Although with the weather getting hotter, and the plants getting bigger, they are a lot thirstier now. They require a gallon of water each every other day. And I’m feeding them nutrients once a week. There is now no doubt in my mind that these are photos and not Auto’s. That sucks, because it throws off my plan of having one harvest midsummer and another harvest early fall.

End of 10th week. Still going good. Probably going to top them since there is around 4 months left till harvest and I don’t want super tall plants. Will be starting another diary with some autos that I ordered from a reputable company.

End of week 17. Still dealing with the heat. Finally got a PH pen and realized my water was running about 8.15. So I got some pH down and I’m running it at about 6.5. Overall health seems to be improving. I always knew that PH was important, but for my first grow, I wanted to see what kind of results I would get without even messing with it. My leaves always seemed a little on the light green side, so I figured I would try adjusting the pH, and they seem to have gotten darker green, so I guess I’m on the right track.

End of week 19. One of my plants started flowering about a week ago. The rest are starting to show preflowering, but are not as far along as the one. Weather is still very hot. Trying to make sure they have enough water. I know the first couple weeks of flower are supposed to be the stretch, but mine have not started that yet.

Plants are doing well enough. Still dealing with the heat. Unfortunately, my plant that started flowering first grew some pollen sacks and pollinated itself, so it looks like it’s going to be full of seeds. I’m still gonna finish growing it out and see what the quality is and possibly just make canna butter and similar things out of it. Hopefully, my other plants didn’t get pollinated as well, but I guess we’ll see.

Finally past the extreme heat of summer. Trying to dial in the correct amounts of water and nutrients because they seem to be getting too much or too little of one or both now that it’s a little cooler and maybe not needing as much water. Still continuing to grow out the plant that got pollinated just to use it for canna-butter or something similar. Hoping like hell that my other ones didn’t get pollinated as well.

@Northern_Ent, thanks for the tip, I will try that. I was always afraid to add moisture with this much heat, because I thought it would create too much humidity and put me at risk of getting powdery mildew or other similar ailments.
Northern_Ent
Northern_Entcommented2 years ago
@BurnCenter, yeah those are photos. A fine water misting with a garden hose a couple or few times a day during the hottest periods helps cool the plants off and provides some humidity which is also needed. Evaporative cooling works great, and also make sure outside of bags stay wet so the roots don’t overheat in direct sun. That’s really fucking hot, and cannabis stops photosynthesis at about 27C so a sunshade or water mist will likely help. Good luck.

@HerbalEdu, yes, they are most definitely photos instead of autos. I should change the heading of my diary. I addressed it in one of the comments on one of the weeks but the seed bank sent me the wrong seeds. I have some Auto’s that are baby seedlings right now that I will be starting a diary for this week.

@NegotiatedBubble, Seeds were not free, but they were on a pretty good sale. The company went out of business right after my order though, so I was thinking that they just gave me whatever to fill my order because they knew they were going out of business and wouldn’t be held accountable. It just sucks because all the other seats I ordered. I don’t know what they are either. I don’t even know if they’re the correct strains, auto or photo.

@Walter_the_Ragamuffin, hey there, thanks for your comment. I meant to change the info on the strains earlier. These turned out to be all photos instead of Autos. The Seedbank I ordered them from went out of business right after my order so I think they just sent me whatever. I know they’re not autos, but I hope they’re at least the strains they’re supposed to be.
