Germination
Germination: Used a glass of water to germinate. Covered the glass with a fitting red Mario cup and let it sit for about 18 hours. Dumped a shots worth of water and the seed into an inch deep hole. Soil: 3 gallon cloth bag. I used about a 2:1 ratio of Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and my local nursery seedling soil. Also used about 20% perlite. I made a center area at the top of just the seedling soil so hopefully once it starts to root it will be ready for the harsher Fox Farm soil. Lighting: Placed my Bloomspect Sl600 about 14 inches away from the pot at 50% intensity. It’s a weaker light so I’m not sure how intense/distance I should be using for germination period. I plan to put the light closer at full power once it starts to grow. All trial and error - we will grow onwards and upwards! Update: 7/8 I did more research on lighting and found out the required amount of DLI for the seedling. We’re sitting at 25% intensity at 14 inches for 20/4 and it seems to be working. Today was first sight of the seedling. In the morning it was barely poking out of the soil to almost being an inch tall at night!

I have a Bloomspect SL600 (85W) for one autoflower plant. I am looking for advice on light intensity/distance for germination and beyond. Currently, I have the light at 50% intensity at 14 inches going 20/4. 14 inches is the highest I can go due to space limitations. Any advice?

Research DLI and how it relates to you’re light schedule and the PPFD output from the lights manufacturer specs. Honestly with autos I’d encourage a little stretch in the first weeks of growth/Veg. A lot of them stay tight cuz of the ruderalis genetics.

Going pretty well. She sprouted up quick and maybe stretched a bit. Not sure how tall she should be at this point, but she’s coming in around 3 inches? I’ve slowly increased daily watering to 200 ml (started with 50ml and worked up). Will continue to increase. I increased the light to around 30% intensity to get better DLI. Ideal DLI should be around 16 for week 2. Still all trial and error - we will grow onwards and upwards!

Still growing strong! Increased the light intensity up to around 20 DLI and am now watering about 250 ml daily. Hoping to do some LST in the coming weeks and maybe start adding nutrients.

A little late post this week. Posting on Saturday 7/29 instead of my usual Wednesday post. Growing well. Started LST and adding Fox Farms nutrients. Not 100% sure if I’m doing LST correctly but I’m aiming the tip around the edge of the pot so other parts can catch up and get light. I think my canopy is pretty even so hopefully it should turn out. Increased DLI to around 30 and watering to 500 ml every two days Will continue to update!

More like Week 4.5 - Date: 8/6/23 We exploded in growth this week! I’m posting a little later than normal again. I think I’m starting to see pistils forming? Seems like we’re entering a pre flower stage. Added FF Tiger Bloom and increased DLI to around 40. I decided to defoliate a few fan leaves off the bottom. Hopefully that won’t negatively affect or stress her. I think getting more light and air flow to the bottom bud sites is more important hopefully. Will continue to update! Excited to see how this next week goes

8/20/23 Update Had some yellowing this week. Not sure if it’s a deficiency, nute lockout, ph issues or natural yellowing in flower. I stopped all nutes this week to try to fix the issue and started actually ph testing the water. Turns out my tap water runs above 7 so I got some ph down to help out. After a week of no nutes I added cal mag and a small amount of big bloom for the K and P today. Really hoping the yellowing goes away and she keeps growing strong. We might have to limp to the end but we will cross the finish line!

8/27/23 Post Buds are getting fatter. The yellowing is still present but it’s not getting worse at least. I realized that passing my tap water through a Brita filter actually gets it to a pretty good ph level. Using cal mag for most waterings with the occasional tiger bloom. Fingers crossed for fat, healthy buds!

9/4/23 Post Buds are getting fatter! Leaves are still yellowing a bit but I think that’s just par for the course now. The smell is super strong and the house smells heavenly. Going to keep watering with cal mag and tiger bloom and letting the buds fatten up. Hoping to harvest in the next 2-3 weeks.

9/10 Post: Still hoping for fatter buds. The leaves are yellowing a bit more still. The trichomes are still clear without much cloudiness, no amber yet. Thinking maybe another 2 weeks still. Will definitely use different soil next time so I can keep track of what nutrients go in. I think FF ran a bit too hot. Hoping everything turns out!

9/17/23 Post: There was a bit more yellowing this week so I decided to cut back on the nutrients and soak the soil to run off. It seemed to help a bit maybe? The buds are growing nicely. Some trichomes are getting opaque but still no amber colors. I’ve said it a few times before but I do think 2-3 more weeks is a good estimate.

I smoked a joint and a bowl after a month of curing. The smell is amazing and the buds are fat and bouncy. The flavor is solid. The high is surprisingly stronger than I thought it would be. It might be because I had to harvest a bit early because of the hermy but it smokes more like an energizing sativa….. feels more heady than I was planning. Experienced a bit of dry mouth and anxiety but it definitely elevated my mood and I was chatty. Overall a pretty solid smoke and I enjoy it.

Final Post 10/1/23: Overall the grow went well for being my first try. Using LST helped keep the canopy even and full. I think growth was stunted a bit at the beginning of vegetation due to ph issues or nutrient imbalance. Beginning of flower went swell. Buds started forming and came in quick and fat. Using FF liquid nutes and me not keeping track of ph led to the leaves starting to gain some yellow around week 5-6. The yellow stayed throughout the grow without too much issue. I did a small amount of defoliation at the beginning of flower to increase air flow. In the later half of flower, everything was going well until tragedy struck. Around week 11, my plant went hermie and started producing seeds. Luckily I caught it early enough that only one or two seeds had formed. I immediately chopped the plant and let dry for 10 days at 55-60 humidity and 70 degrees in my tent. I think one or two more weeks of flower would have been ideal but the plant came out fine. After drying, I trimmed and luckily didn’t see any other seeds. Letting cure in mason jars with humidity packs at 62% humidity. Total result: 42 grams! I’m very happy with the result. I thought with the hermie and early cut it might not produce that much but I’m happy with 1.5 ounces.

So sorry but your plants have hermied on you and its going to be full of seeds and the bud will not be great for smoking and you will have to clean the whole room and equipment before you start over with fresh seeds and I'd make sure that you have proper fans filters ect as well as good lights sorry for your loss but it's not worth growing longer as its already full of seeds so it happened 3 or 4 weeks ago

@Growladyeastmidlands, what are you on about? What grow are you commenting on? I don’t see any sign of seed formation.

@@pacjent420, thank you! I didn’t start to focus on ph until about 6 weeks in - I will definitely pay more attention to that in the future too.
