Northern lights is my all time favorite strain. I have grown a few versions of it, from different seed companies. I’m always looking for a good seed company. I have their Northern Storm auto running, which looks really good, but I need to test the photoperiod too. Germinated in a cup of water and BIgfoot root stimulator 1/4tsp per gallon for two days. Planted in Happy Frog soil. Placed into a humidity dome with a heating mat underneath. Sprouted in one day. Here we go!
Coming along nicely. I transplanted to a bigger pot earlier in the week. I’ll be topping and transplanting soon.
The leaves are pretty fat and rounded so far. Good sign.
I transplanted to a 2.5 gallon pot, with supersoil in the bottom, and Happy Frog in the top. I’ll flower in a few weeks. I removed a couple big fan leaves to open things up a bit.
I defoliated at the beginning of the week, and she’s bounced back completely. I’ll do it at least once more. I believe I’ll give this girl a bigger pot and let her veg couple weeks longer than the others.
I’ve yet to have a Northern Lights photoperiod that stretched more than 6 inches or so after flipping to flower. So I will try to let her get as big as possible first.
I went ahead and tossed her in the flower tent. I’ve got another one coming up a month behind, so I don’t need a huge yield. I mainly want to see if the smoke is what I want out of a NL. I’ll defoliate after 2.5 weeks of flower.
First week of flower down. I’ll defoliate after week 2. Just letting her stretch her little legs. I don’t anticipate much of it. Never had a NL that stretched more than 6 or 7 inches. The super soil should be about used up, being in such a small pot, so I’ll start additional nutrients this week.
She’s really 2.5 weeks into flower. I defoliated for the final time. Leaves became disgruntled, but I administered the proper nutrients, and all should be well. Now we just water and feed for a while.
Just cruising along, doing her thing. If these buds get to a decent size, I’m in for a treat. The internodal spacing is so short, there are buds everywhere. My other one is very different.
Packing on the frost. Pretty neutral smell. It’s the other ones that are straining the limits of my carbon filter. I have a new one coming in a day or two. Should start putting on mass now.
Getting bigger. Getting frostier. This one looks exactly like the 3 ILGM Northern Lights I grew last year. Very low odor. Getting closer to the end. Buds everywhere on this short, pudgy gal.
Buds are getting super frosty. I gave her some chaching eary this week. 2 weeks to go, perhaps. I wouldn’t mind some amber trichomes in my night time medicine.
Plain water for the duration.
She’s bulking up pretty nicely. I’m willing to bet the dried buds will be like rocks. The branches are super short, but the buds are still weighing them down. I’m the most excited for this one. Smells just like I was hoping for. Another week or so to go. She’s just getting water.
Harvesting any day. She’s faded out, and the buds are rock hard and dense. Trichomes are cloudy. The smell is mild and deliciously sweet. The larger buds are dragging their branches down.
Harvested at day 77 of flower, for some added couchlock. Northern Lights is my favorite strain, and MSNL’s checks all the right boxes. The smoke is earthy, spicy, and sweet. Total body relaxation, combined with a quieting of the mind. It’s very difficult to find any motivation after partaking of Northern Lights. Definitely my bedtime strain.
I’ll definitely grow this one again. It’s every bit the Northern Lights I was hoping for. Good yields. Dense buds. Easy to grow. It wasn’t pretty, but that was because of the balancing act I had to play when my super soil ran out of juice, and I had to add nutrients.
Looks tasty man ! Gonna be some extra good chronic all cured up that for sure . As always its a pleasure to check out your grow's keep up the great work and best of luck on your next projects
-Happy Growing!
@TheBudWhisperer, Not to rub salt in the wound, but it’s awesome. I’ve only had this setup for a few months. If I don’t like a particular strain I grew, just wait a week or two. Another one will be ready to smoke! But I need to keep a couple NL going at all times. I always deeply regret running out of it.
@TheBudWhisperer, Thank you! I’ve got two Seedsman NL seedlings a few days old. Regulars, so maybe some breeding stock. Their’s was a clone crossed with Skunk. I was thinking about crossing it with MSNL. I may pony up the money for Sensi’s soon, though.
@TheBudWhisperer, Thank you! I’ll update the other one this week. It doubled in stretch. This one grew like other NL I’ve had. My other MSNL NL is taller and stretchier.
Last haircut outta the way and she’s lookn prim n proper! Awaiting the bulk my friend.🤔 I love piggy backing this grow right now. If I can get this kind of stretch with mine, I’m happy. Beauty job👍👊
@TheBudWhisperer, Thank you! My other one has a completely different structure. Longer distance between nodes. This one stretched 5 inches in 2 weeks. I bet the other one almost doubles. I’ve never had a NL that stretched much more than 6 inches in flower. Why I try to veg them as long as possible.
Right with ya dude. Got my second run of NL up and going too. Love the strain - just gotta find the perfect genetics. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one for sure.👍😉
@TheBudWhisperer, I’m chomping at the bit for my Polar Express to finish. She’s almost there. Checks all the boxes of a good Northern Lights, so far. The smell is right. The buds look right. The Northern Storms smells more skunky, but we will see what the effects are like. That’s the part I like most, after all. 😄 I’ll pony up the cash for a pack of Sensi someday.
