This is a lesser known landrace strain with origins in Iran. Only recently brought to the US.
Years ago we tried this strain in a vape pen and loved it, so we thought we'd give it a grow! These two ladies are in 5gal cloth pots in a mars hydro TS600 tent/light. We will be using Sensi bloom A&B along with epsom salt for the nutrients.
We had some complications right from the start. Both seeds sprouted a tap root but after planting only one we'll call her Shirley broke the surface. After waiting a day Laverne still had not pushed to the surface so I took some tweezers and started gently digging to find out what happened. To my horror, the seed casing was stuck strangling the new leaves on our seedling. After an intense 20-30 second emergency surgery I am happy to report that the casing was removed and Laverne was resussed back to good health. Both seedlings are looking good and sporting their first serrated leaves.
The ladies are growing well. I am checking on them twice a day and watering with only H20 when the substrate gets dry and only a small amount around the plant. I don't see a need to transplant from a smaller cup as they grow so fast.
In the beginning of the week both plants had some bright green edges on the leaves so I figured it was nitrogen and mixed in some nutrients with the water. I think now there may be some burn starting on the leaf tips. Laverne began her life with helmet head that appears to have stunted her growth or possibly just bad genetics to begin with. So far this grow is not as smooth as it could be. We'll see what the future brings.
Overall looking good. Laverne has had some deformed leaves and what I attribute to genetic malfunctions from the beginning. I plucked one stunted leaf node off and two grew in it's place. Watering with sensi bloom A&B now as well as epsom salt.
This week Laverne has grown very tall while Shirley is staying squat and bushy. I switched their placement in the tent to see if it will balance out or if that is just their personality. Got flower fuzz starting and have continued LST.
Shirley is very bushy, I have defoliated and defoliated. The leave just seem to grow back like... weeds. Laverne grows so tall and is maturing faster than the other, I'm not sure if it was her spot in the tent or if its just plants being unique. I've swapped their spots so maybe Shirley will catch up growth.
Broke a branch trying to LST. It was still a little bit connected so I propped it back up, hoping it will reconnect itself. Growth is very good. Looks like some massive bud sites growing on Laverne, but having a little trouble keeping her from growing up into the light. I don't want to but I may have to try super crop for the first time. Shirley is getting defoliated again, I might/should have just trimmed a lot more at the start of flower.
I'm getting so excited. There are soo many bud sites. Battling the foliage of Shirley and the corn stalks of Laverne, but over all I couldn't be happier with the grow. I'm expecting to go another 3-4 weeks before harvest.
I'm fairly sure they developed a calcium def. These are a couple of weeks away from harvest so I thought I'd try flushing and then adding some molasses to keep them healthy enough to get to the finish line.
The close ups of the buds are the least developed of the two plants. Still a lot of clear and milky trichs so we are waiting another week. The calcium deficiency from a couple weeks ago has lots of brown crusty leaves all over the plants. I'm not sure if it would be better to trim before drying or wait until they're dry to trim like normal.
Lessons were learned in this grow for sure. I had pushed extra NPK hoping for a bigger yield but did not increase the calcium. My theory is that lack of calcium is what is causing the buds to be airy and less dense than products from other growers. I will implement calmag into my next grow. Overall this grow ended up with a total of 2.81oz. Better than expected considering the complications.
