Germination

Week 1 Germination was.. something. Had originally bought two strains, Northern Lights and Wedding Gelato (From RQS). I only intend growing two plants at the moment, but I started by moistening up a paper-towel, then wrapping it around the seeds. I them between two plates, in a semi-warm location. I started with two seeds from each strain, so that I had a backup, but neither of the Wedding Gelato's popped. I think I was a bit too eager, and disturbed the seeds by checking too often. In any case, maybe a blessing in disguise that one strain didn't pop, as I've come to know that it's a beginner mistake to try to grow two strains at once, if you're not prepared to do so. I intended to grow one of each plant, but I am not left with two Northen Lights which is the strain I had the most interest in anyways. One seed took a bit longer than the other to emerge from the soil, so right now that plant is slightly smaller. I do have labels to keep track of which plant is which, and how often I'm watering / feeding. I haven't added any nutrients yet, included schedule says to start at week 2, and I'll be starting at half strength. It's been very humid, which I think the seedlings like, but also very hot, which I don't think they like. Luckily, nothing extreme. Temperatures should start getting colder, and I'll be getting a dehumidifier soon enough.

Transplanted into 5 gallon container, which is the biggest size. Don't plan on growing these too big, just a small harvest. I've started feeding Bio-Grow, starting half-strength from the recommended schedule. The biggest plant seems to have some heat-stress or deficiency, maybe both. The temps have been high, maxing at 31C, which is simply just too high. I've increased airflow in the tent, raised my light, and will be starting seaweed extract to help recovery / prevent further damage. Since I've only just started feeding, the yellowing might also be a deficiency which I hope will resolve itself. --- I hadn't watered the plants prior to transplanting, so the soil pretty much just crumbled up. I was a big too rough with one of the plants, but they both bounced back almost immediately. I don't think I'll be topping this grow, but will probably do some LST during week 2 (or 3!), if all things go well.

Doing pretty good, I think. Started added a bit more supplements. Kept NPK about the same as last week, didn't want to up it just yet as I'm waiting to see the reaction to the extras. Ended up actually topping the bigger plant, and also did some LST. I'm pretty certain that I've topped it correctly, more uncertain about the LST. Also might need to defoliate a tiny bit, so the growth sites can get som more light. I've just bent the smaller plant a bit, I'd like it to grow a bit bigger before topping.

Had to leave for a few days, so pictures aren't spread out well, mostly beginning of week and end of week. Upped the nutes a tiny bit to see the reaction of the plants. They took it well, and will be slowly ramping up as they get into flowering, which I'll be starting Week 4. Perhaps it's a mistake to flower so early, but I really don't want this grow to be very big, and they're already getting kinda big. --- One of the plants are unruly, really just growing however it feels like it, super dense and bushy. My other plant is a bit nicer to look at. I expect the nicer plant will have more easy to manage bud sites. --- Did some defoliation, just a teeny tiny trim. Generally just pulling leaves that never got light or which were already starting with wilt. Snipped a branch off of one of the plants because it was tiny and wouldn't be able to compete with the other stems. --- Finally got an AC, so temps are now completely dialed in. AC unit has terrible dehumidifier control, a static 8 minutes on 6 minutes off. During those 6 minutes, the humidity will just cozy right back to ambient. Will be getting a seperate dehumidifier to help. One of my biggest fears is developing some kind of mold or fungal infection.

So, this week I had my first qualified 'dumbass' mistake. I switched to flower, all went well. Plants seemed to be doing exceptional, looking pretty, strong, no problem at all. Periodically I checked for bad leaves and removed any that were already falling off on their own. I set up the net, wanted to to do Screen of Green. Shouldn't have. The net I have is low quality, and barely fits my grow space. So tying any stems to it was difficult. And one day, as I was adjusting, I accidentally snapped 2 stems off of the plant (one of them was the highest branch😵). From what I can read, it shouldn't be *that* bad; The plant will instead focus it's energy in the remaining bud-sites. I will have decreased my yield, but honestly yield isn't an issue. I really just want to see this grow to completion. But I'm thinking that this has probably really stressed the plant, so I'll be watching it closely. If it doesn't pull through, then I'm alright with that. I've removed the net. --- But, it's all about making mistakes and learning. And now I know to not have really low quality screens. On the flip side, I'm really starting to get a good grasp of watering the pots by weight, so I know when I've saturated the soil and when I need to water.

Pretty good week. Broke another branch, but not too badly. Splinted it and patched it back up. It's not dead, so I assume it'll be fine. It's pretty difficult to keep up with the height, but I'll manage. I'm slowly increasing the amount of flowering nutrients my plants are getting. --- All in all, I'm cautiously optimistic.

One leaf from the broken stem seem to be dying, and I'm assuming that it's because the plant just can't give it any water to stay alive. The stem itself is doing fantastic. Trichromes are starting to become visible all over 😁, Now, the plant seemed to suddenly shoot up, pretty much overnight. My tent is absolutely not big enough, and some buds are *really* close to the lights. To remedy this, I've ordered a much bigger tent, 220cm!

Got a new tent, figured my light was too weak, then got a new light. Last week one of the buds was growing almost straight up into the light, and I don't think it liked it. You can even see a tiny bit of what I believe is light-stress. My new tent is bigger - much more than anticipated even. Got a new custom 220W QB, which I'm pretty sure is assembled by the retailer I got it from. It's more than capable of delivering the necessary light intensity. Things are looking pretty good. No major issues as far as I can tell.

They've started to fatten up! I've also noticed that one plant seems mature(?) faster, as in the hairs are turning amber more much more quickly. As in, one plant has like 25% amber hairs, and the other barely has any. I've read that it might be because it's been pollinated, but I'm quite sure that neither of these plants have hermed. This plant has been doing everything faster. It sprouted faster, grew faster. Buds even seem to be fattening a bit faster. I've been hitting the plant with just shy of 1K PPFD during daylight. Can't seem to figure out if that's a good or bad amount, but the plant *seems* fine.

Slowly getting closer to harvest 😎 There's a clear difference between the two plants. One plant seems to have a large amount of comparatively big trichomes, while the other seems to not really have as many. I can't seem to figure out why. I'm obsessively checking for signs of mold, but I don't really see much. Also no pests. The plant with less trichomes also seems to have more amber hairs, and the calyxes have very slightly purpled tips. Buds are still growing though.

Plant 2 has less trichomes than plant 1, despite being the same strain. The hairs are darkening and curling earlier, and the calyx have slightly purpled tips. Is this just unlucky pheno? Or if it's signs of something wrong, then what could it be?

Appears to be some feeding differences too. But most obvious is the first pic appears to be pollinated up top

Looking good! Dont sweat those yellow spots, I feel like they just sometimes occur during rapid growth. If your soil mix is anything close to the usual light-mixes available you should have enough nutrients for the first few weeks in there. Got some RQS NorthernLight seeds with my last order, so I'll watch closely😏

@Fuzzel, Thanks! I'm using BioBizz All-Mix. I'm loosely following the nutrient chart that is provided for the soil. For some reason, the yellow-spotted plant is growing significantly faster than the other. I also noticed it had a much bigger root-system when I transplanted it.
