OG Kush! One of my favorite smokes. I’m excited to be starting my first Scrog grow. I love mainlining, but this is something I’ve been wanting to try. This will be a 4 plant grow in my 4x4. Once the JTR finishes up, I’ll be picking 4 of the 5 that popped to plant in 6.6 gal autopots and then running a Scrog. For now they are going to stay in these little cups for about 3 weeks or so in the 2x4.
Each of the 5 seeds that popped are growing at about the same rate. They will have 2 more weeks before the 4x4 is ready for them, I expect that they will be begging for more space by then. They seem to be healthy and ready to explode.
They are all 5 doing fine. They are growing a bit more loose and stretchy than I expected from a strain so heavy on the indica side. I look forward to seeing how they do over the next week. The JTR in my 4x4 are now hanging to dry, so in 5-7 days I’ll clean that out and then get these in their final pots in that tent.
09/10:
All 5 of these ladies are growing very similarly. In these pictures they look thirsty, cause they were. I purposely underwater them to force the roots to stretch out in anticipation of their transplant in the next couple of days. I haven’t yet finished drying the JTR plants in my 4x4 and so I do not have a place to put them yet, but they are ready to transplant. Will probably do that in the next couple of days. Still not sure what 4 or the 5 I want to take to flower. Very impressed with these genetics so far.
09/14:
I’ve topped and transplanted these ladies. I’ve only taken 4 of the 5 and that will be more than enough to fill up this 4x4. After topping I also roughed up and bent down the main branch. While doing this, I snapped one of the 5. Made it easy to pick the 4 I’m taking. The 5th one is still in the 2x2 and I’ll keep her around just out of curiosity to see how long she can grow in the little cup. Looking forward to seeing how well these 4 adjust to their new space.

These ladies seem to have recovered from the transplant fine. They are starting to look happy again. I watered them today. I will not water them tomorrow, and plan to hook the auto pots up to the water on Tuesday. I expect that once hooked up to water that they will start growing like crazy. I’ll probably take out the trellis is a week or so. We’ll see.
09/23
These ladies have finally completely adjusted to their new pots and endless amounts of water. They are mostly very healthy outside of a little nitrogen OD. I’m going to get the water in the tank with a bit of PH’ed water to try to lessen the nitro. I’m new to Scrog and so am not sure when to start the trellis. I feel like they are going to grow a lot in this next week, and so I may end up starting that sometime in this week. For now, I am just going to manually gently bend down each branch every morning until I feel that she is ready to start stretching into a trellis.
A note on the strain/genetics. Humboldt is proud of the stem strength that they accomplished with these genetics. And I can honestly say that I know what they are talking about when I handle the branches. They feel almost rubbery, and seem to move and hold position like a pipe cleaner. Haven’t really had any plants that felt like this before. Really think it will workout week for training them through the trellis. We’ll see how it goes.
I’m going to Scrog for the first time. I’m planning to put on the trellis in a day or two. My question is, should I switch these to flower right after adding in the trellis, to try to use the initial pre-flower stretch to help fill the trellis?
09/30
Wow this was an entertaining day. Every morning this week I would bend down each of their branches; every day they would pop back up. They grew so much this week. Today after bending the branches down, I added the trellis net. I used Velcro ties just above the hook on each corner to help keep the net from being pushed up. I also used two 12lbs weights and some bungee cords hooked to the center to help keep it pulled down as they mature into the net.
I had considered defoliating now, but have decided to see how they start growing into this first. I expect I’ll defoliate sometime this week. Plan to switch the lighting to 12/12 next week after I have filled all holes on the net and cleaned up any growth under the canopy.
10/08
I have defoliated 3 times this week! They do not seem phased by an aggressive defoliation. They also seem to just want to focus on leaf growth, and there was very little to no stretching this week, as I had hoped. I want some more stretching so that I can better fill out the net. I’ve decided to switch to 12/12 tonight, hoping that the pre flower stretch will get me where I want to be as far as filling all of the net.
At this point, I am not sure how much the net has even helped me, as there are only a couple of areas where it is actually training branches in so way. I think this is just the result of the way I trained them prior to adding the net. I’m definitely not doing a Scrog right, but I’m not discouraged by it just yet. As some of my comments suggest, I should have just started with the trellis right after I got them in these pots, I’d probably be much further along in their training by now. Either way, these plants seem like they are going to grow some big delicious buds. I’m excited to see how they change over the next few weeks.
I’ve also added Fish Shit to my nutes. Not sure if I will notice any great help from it, but I figured that I might as well try adding in something that has a focuse on terps and flavors as I am becoming a bit of a terp snob. 😆
10/15
Another week of slight stretch with a ton of leaf growth! They just want to have lots of huge leaves. I already want to defoliate again, but they are barely transitioning, and only just now showing small signs of prebloom. And so I do not want to cause any unnecessary stress at the moment. I think I will give them another week before defoliating again, if my high ass can stand to be in there and looking at all of those oversized fan leaves without wanting to take them. 😆
I’ve accepted that I haven’t done a very good job with the Scrog training and am just going to let them do their thing now without pulling around any branches. The stems are firming up a lot now anyway, and I don’t want to break any and cause stress.
Looking forward to the next couple of weeks as I start to see where my flowers are going to start stacking up.
10/23
It was a pretty great week. I did another defoliation early in the week and added a second trellis net. I think that they may be getting to the end of their stretch and have started budding.
I need to take the time to remove some of the lower growth that is now in between the two nets. I should get some time to do it in the next couple of days.
I have to say, I haven’t really enjoyed the amount of work that this growing style has created for me with this many plants in this 4x4. This is especially true for a strain that just wants to grow tons of giant leaves. However, when I look at them now, I feel a sense of pride similar to what I get when looking at my hard work from main-lining. And so I am on the fence at the moment in regard to if I like Scrog. Really looking forward to seeing how they turn out.
Dumped and cleaned my water tank today. I also decided to remove the liquid seaweed from my mix moving forward, as I cannot tell if it is actually benefiting my plants in some way that the other nutes are not already, and it is causing a lot of nasty buildup in my water tank and in the AquaVales.
10/29
Man they are starting to look really yummy. Buds started everywhere. Smells have already started; I just put on the air filter.
They need a defoliation badly, and I need to clean up lower growth. I have been lazy lately and haven’t gotten to it. I am also telling myself that they are not done stretching and growing leaves, but that may just be the excuse I’m telling myself. I’ll do a defol some evening this week. I’d guess it’s going to take about 2.5-3 hours…
Starting to be pleased with my efforts to Scrog, as they my are just looking great at this point. The canopy is insanely full for the 4x4, and that both looks great and like it’s going to be a problem. Keeping humidity in check is going to be difficult with this much foliage and autopots in the tent. The bright side is that I have a dehumidifier near the tent and winter is kicking in here and the furnace will be running, making the air outside of the tent very low in humidity. And so I should be able to rely on the AC infinity controller to automatically increase the in-line to pull in better air if the humidity is getting high. It will be very important for this strain.
Looking forward to the next week. Should see some bud bubbling, and that is always fun.
11/01 - Update
I did a heavy defoliation today. It was annoying and took over 3 hours but needed to be done badly. Hoping it’s the last time it’s needed.
11/05:
I’m very glad that I did the defoliation this week, as they have responded to it very very well. Their now just a stack of bud sites all over the place that are growing nicely. Two of the plants are already producing a large amount of frost.
At this point I’m hoping that they will be mostly no maintenance. I’m am super pleased with how they are turning out and I am excited to see how they progress through the next week.
11/12:
They are looking and smelling very yummy. Leaves are still growing. The buds are starting to thicken up. Looks like I’m probably going to just have a bunch of small but dense buds for the most part. Frost is starting to build up every. So much so that I don't ant to dig around in there to remove leaves. The smells are mostly just sweet and earthy right now. With a hit of fuel. Really looking forward to the next week.
11/19
They are really starting to mature now.
The top buds have thickened up almost overnight. Im thinking that next Saturday i will clean the water tank and change them to just water for the rest of the grow, as i think they have about three more week. Looking forward to seeing their progress. They smell of fuel and citrus right now.
11/26
Smells like lemon pledge and gas in the tent. Some of the buds are frosting up like crazy. I am in the final two weeks and switched to just water today. Looking forward to seeing how the leaves change and the buds mature in the next couple of weeks.
12/03:
It is the final week and i can honestly say that this has been my favorite grow yet. It may be because I am loving this strain. It smells better in this tent than it ever has. Smells of sweet citrus and a hit of fuel. If you’ve never grown OG Kush, go buy some seeds! This stuff is wonderful. Im am super excited to try it.
I will shut the lights off on Friday night and leave them in the dark until Sunday before cutting them down. No looking forward to getting these monsters out of two trellis nets.
12/10: Harvest
Today i harvested the plants… wow what a pain in the back it was. I decided to just cut away both of the trellis nets, cause it was going to be too much work to get the plants out of it whole. I chopped them down, tied them to hangers, then weighed them whole, and the. I trimmed away any fan leaves that did not have any sugar on them. All of this took about 4.5 hours and was a bunch of manual labor, done sober.
This is the first time i have weighed the weight hole plants at harvest. I weighed them with a fish scale. They game out to exactly 200oz of total weight.
54.7oz
50.0oz
46.7oz
48.6oz
My favorite of the plants and the one that I currently have a clone of weighed in at 48.6oz of total plant material. Its pretty interesting to see how different the weights have been.
I will dry them in the 4x4 maintaining around 60% RH for around 8-14 days depending on how quickly they dry.
Ill be back here with the final dry bud weight after they have finished and I’ve trimmed them.
