"Soylent Green is people!!!!"
My first grow with "real" paid seeds... It was stressful!
Ordered from a seed bank in austria.
Didn't know the breeder (Breaking Buds) or the strain (Soylent Green Auto), BUT the movie "Soylent Green" is one of my favorites... sooooo 😅
8/24 Day 1:
First of all, I've cleaned and disinfected everything (tools, tend, whole room).
Then I prepared 2 peat pellet's with ph-corrected water, put the seeds in and put them into a green house inside my tend.
Temperatures inside: around 28°C (82°F)
Humidity around 60-80%
8/28 Day 4:
With one pellet I've noticed that the root is stretching above the soil. (see pictures)
Immediately, I did a little "surgery" and flipped the seed.
8/30 Day 6:
The "surgery" was successful!
BUT, six days in and the other seed showed no signs of life.
So I prepared 2 new seeds and this time I wanted to try the Paper Towel Method for the first time.
8/31 Day 7:
My little "surgery survivor" goes into her final home. (see picture)
9/02 Day 9::
First seed from the paper towel is ready to go to a pellet.
9/04 Day 11:
She is looking good and can also go into her final home.
BUT the other seed from the paper towel seems lifeless... I've tried to put her into a pellet (just to be sure), but nothing happened ...
Summary:
Only 50% success rate with this seeds (2 out of 4) was depressing.
I've even considered not posting this diary, because I think I've done a very bad job, it was all my fault and I'm a noob... 😞
But I guess that is part of the hobby and I've learned a lot for the next germination.

Flowering: 70 days
The girl on the left (germination method Peat Pellet) is growing like hell.
On the right (with wet paper towel) seems a bit weak, but we'll see.
My LED is at 75% for 18h and 30cm distance.
According to my android app "Photone", they get a DLI of 40.
Maybe next time I grow autos, I'll try 20h of light, but for now I wanted to save my electric bill.
I'm quite happy with the grow so far.

Soooooo..... I fucked up!
I underestimated the sensibility of autoflowers and cared to less.
Here is, what I think, happens:
I gave them a normal amount of nutrients but not enough water.
So they developed a nutrient burn.
Since I noticed (4-5 days ago), I gave them every day 1L pH-controlled water only and they look better now.
pH is and was always around 6.5-6.8.
See you next week!

They're looking better! 😁
Not perfect, but better!
I think my theory was right, it was a nutrient burn.
I gave them nutrients only one time this week and for the rest of the time 1L pH-controlled water every day.
In around 2 weeks, they should be ready to harvest.

This week I only gave them water 2 times. No Nutrients.
Honestly, I don't like looking at them. I'm only seeing my mistakes and its frustrating...
Good thing is, they should be ready in the next 10 days! Then I can kill them and make room for my other grow.

They got water 3x this week. No nutrients.
Next week is maybe there last week.
Tomorrow they'll get only 12h light, since my other grow (do-si-dos) needs it.
Maybe not optimal, but fuck it!
This grow is fucked up enough and I'm happy when its over.

I gave them only water every two days.
I guess they need a few more days.
And I'm already cutting from the right plant... 😅
Because of my mistakes, its hard to say how good this seeds are. Only 2 out of 4 seeds were successful.

FINALLY!
I'm done with this grow!
The lady on the left looks pretty good. I've put her up to dry, but unfortunately she'll get only 12h darkness and relatively low humidity in my tend.
Don't have space to hang her somewhere else.
The second plant? Yeah, lets not talk about her... 😅
I've cut her into pieces and already smoking... It wasn't much but its enough for a few weeks.
I don't have a good scale, maybe I'll buy one in a few month. 😅
Thanks for watching this train wreck!
I'll do better with my next Auto-Try.
Too bad buddy, I think you have too much grow fertilizer at this stage. I'm almost sure you should only use BioBizz Bloom as soon as they start forming buds. In my current run, I used 30l pots with BioBizz Light Mix and didn't have to give any grow fertilizer until week 6. Autos need less nutrients anyway than photos. But I would definitely recommend photos; you can still save them if you make mistakes. With autos, the sand timer is running, and every little mistake impacts the final result.
@Stony_German,
That's so frustrating 😞
I've read on so many websites how beginner-friendly autoflowers are and that "everyone should start with them."
Dumb question: How did you realize that you don't need any nutrients until week 6?
Is it sensible to wait that long until you notice the first deficiencies, or do you go by the TDS value?
Anyway, thanks for your post!
Ich gebe immer in meinenreprten an was in welcher Woche gebe. Dachte ich geb dem 3l Etwas grow dünger und hab gleich gemerkt das es trotz 25% der angabe zuviel war. Habe immer von den Grow Dünger übrig seit ich Organisch growe. Kann ich bald einem CSC schenken😜
Hey man, it'll be fine by harvest time! A proper watering rhythm is very important. I try to water so that the soil is dry after 3 days and then I can water again. You seem to be paying attention to the pH level too, so it shouldn't really be that, especially since the Lightmix can buffer quite a bit. Also, I was told not to use Cal/Mag with every watering; I only add it every other time. Too much Cal/Mag can also lead to nutrient burn. Someone gave me tips about that in the comments during my last grow since I had similar problems, even if not as severe. Could be helpful for you too :). I've since gotten a water meter that can measure pH, EC, and TDS. It only costs about 20 euros since it's actually for pools, but it works pretty well for our hobby :D
Good luck!
Peace
@tomatenmark69,
Yeah, the watering thing is really something I need to learn, I just don't have a feel for it yet. 😞
Do you water according to a schedule?
I've often read, for example, that you should add 25% of the soil volume as water.
And how do you handle additives like Bio-Heaven?
Do you add them every time you water? Like every 3 days, or just every other time like CalMag?
Thanks a lot anyway! 😀
@GreenCosmos, I always stick to those 3 days. If the soil is still too moist on the third day, I might wait a day longer. I check this by lifting the pots to feel the weight. It's best to lift the pot slightly before and after watering to get a sense of it. I've also heard about this 1/3 rule (or 25%), but I think that's too much. With my 7.5L fabric pots, I only water 1L per plant every 3 days. In the later flowering weeks, it's 1.5L per plant. It's important that the soil doesn't stay constantly moist but is also a bit drier for a day, so the roots can get some air and prevent root rot. You should also pay attention to the pots you've chosen. Fabric pots tend to dry out a bit faster than clay pots, so you have to water more often. I use nutrients and additives with every watering and exactly according to the feeding schedule. It's probably a bit much, but so far it's been going well 😁. Probably 70-80% of the schedule would be enough too.
Somehow you have to find your own schedule over time. It'll work out..😀👍
Your mistake is you shouldn't use 2m bio grow during flowering you just need 1ml per litre no more during bloom more add bloom ant top max and 1ml bio grow and try use less calmag
happy growing
Wow buddy!! super nice buds
What an amazing grow so far - good job and well done 🤝
Happy Growing & cant wait for your upcoming weeks 🌱
