Trying something different, growing an auto inside a chia pet, hoping to make something whimsical, bonsai style.
9/6 - dropped the seed in water.
9/7 - tried drilling drainage holes and knocked out a good size hole with the drill once the bit pushed through... that'll work!
9/8 - she started sprouting a tail, so into the chia pet she went
9/9 - I dug around and she's working down, gave her a bit of an extra drink with Hygroben and Recharge to help with root development.
9/10 - nothing yet, keeping her moist by spraying with water and covering with a plastic soup cup
9/11 - I can see the seed trying to break the surface
9/12 - finally popping up!
9/13 - fed and watered from the bottom, gave her just enough to fill the drip tray and she drank it all. Also, I keep spraying her with water to keep the humidity up. I'm worried the clay will draw the water out of the soil. But I can feel inside the extra large drain hole to get a sense of when she needs more water.
9/16 - watered with pH adjusted water and Recharge, poured slowly until it started dripping out of the bottom
9/20 - watered and fed, gave her about a 4oz of pH adjusted water with nutrients
9/24 - watered and fed, gave her about a 4oz of pH adjusted water with nutrients
9/25 - noticing the new leaves are looking a bit wonky. I wonder if this is just from being stunted in the tiny pot or if a challenge awaits...
9/26 - laid the gnome down to let the training begin...
9/27 - used some wire to shape the plant better and rotated the gnome. The idea is to have the stem wrap around his hat.
9/29 - fed and watered, gave about 2 oz of water, 1 oz was just enough to drop through, then another oz to bottom feed. Had to sit the gnome up to water.
10/02 - noticed a couple Arial roots
10/04 - fed and watered, gave her about a half cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
10/09 - dried out and I didn't realize it... Fed and watered, gave her about a half cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
10/10 - the feeding brought her back to life. Sat the gnome upright and working on training the stem to grow around the gnome hat
10/13 - fed and watered, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
10/15 - fed and watered, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
10/17 - adjusted the wire to bring the main stem tighter to the gnome's hat
10/18 - fed and watered, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
10/22 - fed and watered, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
10/26 - fed and watered her, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients, and removed a couple yellow leaves
10/30 - fed and watered her, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients, removed a yellow leaf
11/08 - fed and watered, gave her about a cup of pH adjusted water with nutrients
11/10 - not sure what happened, she looked happy as could be just 2 days ago. A day after watering her and she's shriveling up. I'm not expecting her to recover at this point.
