Hello everybody/Yokoso minasan,😎 I am happy to be here again and share this journey with you growmies. This time we travel to Japan and try to get to know the secret life of the military leader of the samurai was like. We will use the following tools for this trip: 💦Growrilla single DWC pot 19liter💦 Pot dimensions: 33cm x 30cm Container size: 19 liters Air pump: Halilea ACO 2210 (78 L/ hour) Level and drain pipe Net pot 12 cm Air stone +1 meter air pipe Rockwool cube So on the first day we put the seed in a glass of dechlorinated tap water and after 24 hours placed it into a rockwool cube. I haven’t used this method of germination yet and found out afterwards, that it is worth soaking the cube for a few days in PH 5,5 water before use it. I skipped this part, so hope it is not going to cause any stunt growth or nutrient uptake issues. I sponged out a water from the cube and it was PH 7.1 so fingers crossed it will be okay. Then I put it in the dome and waited. Sprayed the cube twice a day with PH 5,8 de chlorinated water. Running the light 24 hours has provided a consistent environment for our seedling. On the 3rd day she emerged from the cube and turned the light to 15% which is 150 ppfd on the current height. On the sixth day she entered a net pot so here we are at the end of the germination. I am very excited about this project as I will be trying out a completely new technique for me. I would like to thank two of our grow mates who helped me get started this process. Thanks a million @DeepWaterGrower and @SwissKush.👊 If anyone has any suggestion or useful idea during the weeks for me, i would greatly appreciate it. Have a wonderful week!🌞🌱 /Atode o ai shimashou/

Hi everybody, This time the update is coming quickly because the site was not working, but the plant grew in the meantime haha. So I am really amazed how rapid is the growth in hydro system. I read about and saw it by other growers of course but to see this in real time is just incredible. This week covers a time interval of 10 days as I put the seedling in DWC at day 6 which was in the middle of the week. Grow tent was constantly controlled. In the tent temperature was 27 degree Celsius at the beginning of the week and 23 at the end with lights on 35-40% intensity which is 300-375 ppfd, mounted at 40 cm from the top of the plant. Checked the PH and EC daily. There is one thing which surprised me and I don't know if this is normal but every day I set the PH to 5.8 and a day after when I measured it again it jumped up to 6.3. Does anyone have an explanation for this? 07-09-2023 >day 6 Seedling placed to the net pot and built up the DWC with nutrient solution. The fun begins. Top watering the pebbles 2 times a day to promote side root growth. Day 7 Top watered twice a day. Nothing special. Day 8 First outward roots are visible. Still the PH fluctuates every day. I decided to pour some water out of the DWC to create gap between the net pot and the pool. Helping to supply air to the roots. Day 11 First root in the pool. Mixed a new solution and filled the DWC up to the net pot as advised by fellows. I will leave it like this for the first two weeks and then create gap again between the net pot and the pool. Day 13 from seed She is going strong, looks healthy. I saw some brown discoloration on the roots and I panicked that it wasn't a root rot so added 2ml extra hydrogen peroxide to the solution. It is still brown on some spots, mostly directly at the bottom of the net pot where the root grows. I hope it is because of the pebbles and not any root issue. I don't see any bad growth or slimy root or smell so I think it is just fine but I made a few pics for grow questions. Day 16 She is doing fantastic and feels good in the DWC. The first week went well in my opinion so let see what the next week will bring. I will change the solution today and raise the EC to 1.1 from 0.7 as the first leaves grow, and not slowly.💦 Hope everyone has a great weekend with a lot of tasty bud to smoke.🌞💨 See you next week.

Grow Questions

I would like to know if this discolouration because of the clay pebbles sitting constantly in the DWC pool and colouring the roots or from nutrients or is this a root problem? There is no slimy thing or bad smell or stunt growth which can be detected.

no slime, no smell and growth seems okay? probably a stain from ferts. clay pebbles can be dusty if not washed off, but i woudln't think that would stick as well.. those are fairly large particles vs what causes staining. guess it'd be a bit gritty if from the leca balls? those particulates are "heavy." keep the water agitated/oxygenated, and sould be fine. Hi everybody, Welcome at week 2 of veg. At the beginning of the week we changed the solution according to the feeding schedule. I am still really surprised how fast the growth is in DWC.💦🌱 Didn’t have to do much this week except that we raised the lamp as the plant grew. The current PPFD is 480 and the target is to reach 600 end of next week. The conditions are just great in the tent as the temperature drops outside so it will be more easy to keep things under control. Solution is 20-21 degrees celcius so that’s just fine. Humidity I can keep at 65% constantly. Root system is developing very nicely and not nearly as brown as last week. The only thing that worries me is still the PH fluctuation. It still goes up 0.3 per day. The plant doesn’t suffer because of it as I correct it daily but still I don’t have an answer to it. Peace ✌️💨

Hallo Growmies, Welcome everyone to the third week of the trip to Japan. This week the adventures started and we still have a bumpy road ahead of us before we reach the final destination. After we changed the nutrient solution she definitely seemed more happier .💦 So decided to start with the trainings, on Day 25 topped her and right after started with LST. I expect her to recover quickly from the early stress and start growing strong in the next 2 weeks. 🌱 On day 27 took off 4 big fan leaves. Till day 29 we continued tying the branches and checked and corrected the PH daily. Let the branches up for 2 days to regenerate then we tied them again. PPFD is around 600. Will keep this until the end of the veg period. Everything is going well but there was something to worry about again. I started giving powder silicate to the mix and left a gap between the net pot and the water. In the second day checked the root and noticed that silicate deposited in clumps on the part of the root which is between the net pot and the water. Luckily could wash it off with a shower. So that’s all for this week. See you soon!🌞🌱

Hi Growmies, Welcome at veg week nr 4 in our private pool.😎 In the beginning of the week we changed the nutrient solution and adjusted the PH to 5.8.💦 This needed to be done 2 days later as well as PH fluctuates. She drunk 5,5 liter this week. So as we expected, she recovered from the stress and began to grow strongly. She is living the HIGH life in the DWC and it’s lovely to see.🌞🌱 Obviously our job this week was to teach her grow horizontally and to be stronger on the side branches. For this we were using some garden wires and bended the stems symmetrically around the top. Despite the fact that the stems are thick, it responds well to tying. We will see next week how she feels. Defoliated twice this week, always a little from the center to let enough light to the lower part of the plant. The two main tops are also growing strong so I am pretty happy with her so far. Let’s hope everything will be OK and we will be able to report more successes next week. Have a lovely week to you all dear Growmies!👨‍🌾🏻 Peace ✌️

Hallo hallo, Have you had a great week? We got a little lost on our way to Japan so that’s why are we a bit late with a weekly journal. 🇯🇵 On the first day of the week we changed the nutrient solution and checked whether the breeder's recommendation regarding feeding was true. They say you can feed her harder so the EC was 2.3 this week and seems she doesn’t have problem with it. This will come in handy for flowering. She was drinking 6 liters this week.🌱💦 Luckily with the early topping we could stop vertical growth and since she is focusing to strengthen secondary stems. She got very bushy so decided to defoliate and top 3 secondary branches on day 40. I’ve never done it before so curious what it’ll bring in the next 2 weeks as our plan is to switch her after 6 weeks of veg.👨‍🌾🏻 We continued with LST and she is just loving it. The only thing still worries me is the PH fluctuation. I cannot keep it stable for a long and I think because of this macro deficiency occurs on some leaves at the top. At least this what I’m thinking. I made a few photos for Questions. Please take a look. I am running the tsw2000 on 40% and I adjust it to the height of the plant to get constant 600 Ppfd. Next week will start with the scrog and I hope a week after we can slowly switch to 12/12. Have a nice week Growmies, see you soon! ✌️🏻

Hi Growmies, Two weeks ago i noticed that there are some yellow stripes appeared on the top leaves. The PH fluctuates in DWC can this cause some micro nutrient deficiency but I don’t really know. Do you have any ideas what could be? Thanks

Hi Growmies, How are you doing? This week there is not much happened in the garden. Installed the net in the middle of the week and tried to pull the canopy apart even more. The secondaries are growing just super so decided to do a good defoliation today. I wanted to switch week 7 but i am gonna use this week as a transition one as I still wanna make a lollipop later on. Probably the day after tomorrow as I didn’t want to cause more stress to her after a defoliation. 👨‍🌾🏻🌱 Changed the solution in the first day of the week and tried to raise the PH to 6.2. We’ll see if the discolouration will be okay on the leaves.💦 Overall, we ended a good week and looking forward positively to the next one. See you fellow gardeners.🍦🍪 Peace ✌️🏻

Eyy Growmies, hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Another great week for her, also the last one in veg.🌱 On the very first day of week 7 changed the solution as the DWC was almost empty haha. She drunk a good 9 litre last week. Day 55 we made the final touches that were necessary before the switch. So took more fan leaves off and did a lollipopping. She still has 4 days till switch so enough time to recover. As advised by fellows I raised the PH to 6.2 and added Epsom salt to the solution on day57. With this, we would like to find out that magnesium deficiency is the cause of the leaf discoloration. I also noticed it pushes up the EC by 0.7. After how long can improvement be expected, does anybody know? I have to switch this weekend so really hope it wont disturb pre flowering.👨‍🌾🏻💦 Day 59 last day of veg. That's where we are at the moment. Tomorrow I will make the switch. Thanks for stopping by, Stay safe and see you!🌞

Hallo Growmies, Welcome in the last week of Japanese military training. The Shogun girl is ready for the bloom fight and to show what she has learned in this weeks. 🇯🇵😎 So actually this week is a hybrid one as we still have done some defo at the beginning but also made the switch on day 62. EC is high due to epsom salt but without it is 2.3 which fits for a transition week. I can still see some discolouration on a few leaves but it’s definitely not as bad as it used to be so the combination of dimming the lamp back and using epsom salt started to work.👨‍🌾🏻💦 The rest of the week just tied the branches under the net where was necessary to keep the even canopy. That’s all, folks! Have a lovely weekend, stay safe!🌞 Peace ✌️🏻

So here we are Growmies, we arrived at the long-awaited flowering period. Basically this week wasn’t as busy as the previous ones. I stopped tucking branches at the end of the week so she can just focus on the stretch from now. At the beginning of the week we changed the solution as the DWC was almost empty, this means she drunk almost 10 litres last week.💦👨‍🌾🏻 It seems the leaf discolouration is totally gone so thanks to everyone for the tips. 👊🏻 That's why I love this community, I can always count on you growmies if I need help.🙏🌞 I could already see some pre flowering signs 7 days after the switch so that’s super fast imo. Running the TSW2000 at 45% around 30cm above the canopy. Wasn’t at home for a few days and only made a few shots this week. Hope everyone is having a great week. See you soon fellow gardeners.🌱🌞 Peace

Week 2 Flower This week it was quite quiet in the garden. Apart from changing the water in DWC at the beginning of the week, not much has happened. She is getting now the full bloom nuts. First time i am using mineral based nutrients and I am pretty satisfied so far. No deficiencies and no signs of stress. I believe things are right on track. She is full at stretching modus. Calyxes are already starting to form and next week will do the final defo. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. See you next week Growmies.🌱🌞

So a significant stretching was observed on this week 3 of flower. Greetings fellow gardeners, what’s up? To start up the week we freshed the solution as the DWC was almost empty, it means she drunk a good 10 litres on this week.💦 After that we had nothing else to do but check on our little warrior as we progressed towards D21 of flowering. On this day we did the last defoliation as planned. She wasn’t happy at all right after the hair cut but two days later started to show some bud growth. It would be great to see a strong comeback and development next week. Flowering week nr.4 So this week wasn’t as busy as the previous one and we could focus more on our other tent. The stretching is definitely stopped and buds began to take shape. As always we filled the DWC at the beginning of the week and corrected the PH once later on. This time of the year is just perfect for indoor growing as I don’t need to run any dehumidifier and airco to keep the ideal vpd in the tent which is between 1.16-1.25 kpa when light is on. Running the TSW 2000 on 75% intensity and it means 700-950 ppfd at the top of the canopy. What is worth mentioning compared to the previous week is the sweet aroma that is started to spread. The trichome production this week has been off the charts, ooh yessss.🌱🌞 As always thank you all for stopping by, this journey to Japan wouldn't be the same without you guys. Take care and stay safe fellow gardeners! Peace✌️🏻

Hi Growmies, She is developing very nicely, buds are forming and filling the nodes everywhere. However, I think the flower development is slow compared to her age but this can be because of the sativa genes which is 70% by this strain. She carries the characteristics of both parents such as the stickiness of the Gorilla Glue and the sweet floral smell of the Amnesia.😎 A slight calcium deficiency occurred this week, you can notice it on the topmost leaves that are close to the lamp. The PH was around 5.9-6 and decided to raise it to min 6.2 from next week, trusting that calcium and phosphorus absorption will also improve. As I said before I am new to hydro so still there is a lot to learn.💦👨‍🌾🏻 She drunk 10 litres last week and running the lamp on 75% intensity. Ppfd :780-980 Vpd: 1,34-1,46kpa Peace, fellow gardeners! Hey now, hope everyone is having a great week. The Shogun is not doing so well. I have mixed feelings this week. I’m in a learning process with hydro but I would like to finish this first round well with a little success of course. The buds don’t swell as they should and this is worrying. Calcium deficiency continued to spread to the rest of the plant. The PH keeps fluctuating and I don't know why. In the end of the week we decided to flush the plant for 48 hours with de-chlorinated tap water and Flash Clean. Mixed the water with Flesh Clean, set the PH to 5.8 and let the solution stand for 1 day and fixed the PH again than changed DWC on day 42 of flowering. I think because the ph swings, the nutrients cannot be absorbed properly and therefore the buds don’t develop how they should. The root system was also completely knotted, it was not very stringy, however i saw no signs of root rot. At the same time, phenomenal scents swirl when I open the tent and some serious trichome production also continues to build even on the lower buds. About the numbers: Par: 850-1020ppfd VPN: 1,35-1,47kpa Hope this helps to save our crop. If anyone has a suggestion or tip please leave it as a comment, it would be much appreciated.🌱✌️🏻 See you soon fellow gardeners.

Hi fellow cultivators, First of all I hope everyone has a safe and loving holiday.🙏🌞 I will try to quickly summarise the weekly events. So after last week's difficulties and two-days of flush a new solution has been mixed, this time with only the 3 basis Tripart components. The calmag issue stopped spreading out more so that’s a good thing. Looking at the trichomes this was the last week before we hit the ripening stage so within max 2 weeks the harvest will take place. The smell is just lovely sweet with hint of sandalwood and I am buzzing.🌱😎 Trichome production has continued and pistils are turning more and more brown. There is a significant development on bud structure on this week and the leave’s are beginning to discolor seriously. She is a sticky beast who i love pretty much. 🌞 Vpd:1,39-1,46kpa Par: 750-980ppfd So our journey to Japan has almost reached its final destination before we can meet the real Shogun warrior. See you Growmies soon! Have a lovely Christmas everyone with a ton of good with to smoke!🎄💨 Peace ✌️🏻

Hi fellow gardeners, Hope all is going well with you in the new year.🍾🥂 As we approach autumn, our little Shogun also begins to mature. That means we replaced the solution with ripening blend at the beginning of the week and refreshed once during the week. Despite the problems that stem from my lack of routine with hydro cultivation I am very proud of the way she fought and who she became. A sticky monster with an excellent smell. However the bud structure isn’t my favourite. The trichomes started to turn brown in certain parts of the plant so will keep continue using the Final Part for 3 days more next week and than flushing for another 3. We'll see what we can get out of her.🌞🌱 New beginnings are just around the corner. Happy New Year everyone!💚 See you soon! Peace🏻

Hi Growmies, This was her last week, as she was cut down at the end of the week;) I fed her Final Part another 3 days and then changed the reservoir to PH-ed tap water with Flash Clean for 5 days. Dimmed back the light to 50%. I took out her from the tent for an inspection and I saw more and more milky trichomes turning to amber. This is a clear sign of her maturing beautifully. After she went with another girl from for 48 hours of darkness before she was chopped.🌱⚔️ Her root ball was looking healthy and much better after the flushing process so next time, I'm sure I won't be using powder silicate because it only made the roots tangled. The total number of flowering days was 65 since we changed the light cycle to 12/12. I moved her to the drying tent with 55% RH. She is sharing it with the Dos-si-dos’33 girls. They will remain there as long as needed. Will come with a longer report next week as I have a lot of thoughts in my mind about this journey to Japan with her.💚🇯🇵 Have a lovely weekend fellow cultivators! Peace🏻

Hi fellow Gardeners, It took us a while to finally make it to Japan on the difficult road. This is our first hydro grow which was completed a year ago. It wasn't today, but the experience of this grow is still vivid in my mind. So, as a first-time hydro grower, I embarked on this project with high hopes. Still remember how excited I was to finally be able to try a new grow technique. At first, I was completely surprised that everything went like clockwork. I was a little afraid that I might fail, but the germination and vegetative stage went almost perfectly, without any difficulties. There were minor shocks when the roots were brown or the PH was constantly fluctuating, but over time we got used to them and started to enjoy the process. There was a magnesium deficiency at the beginning of pre-flowering, which we managed to quickly correct. This could have already predicted the beginning of tougher times, but at that time we were still full of positive impulses and this continued even at the beginning of the boom. Trichome production was great at the time and a complex smell was also present in the tent when the flower development seemed to have stopped in week 5. Actually, the flowers were developing, they just didn't want to fill up with mass. At the end we got a sticky beautiful beast with a great trichome production and great smell but unfortunately with airy, fluffy buds. There were clearly problems with nutrient uptake during flower which I was unable to properly treat due to my lack of experience. Hydroguard is not available in our country and the root system was knotted and brown, which I think was the source of the problem. Dried the Shogun together with the DSD’33 girls in the tent for 10 days on 55% RH. Final yield is 149 gr of dry fluffy buds. Wasn’t really a pleasant smoke so mostly made bubble hash from it.💨 Thanks everyone for the support throughout this journey. See you later and happy gro!👊
