Woohoo! Now that summer is behind me, itโs time to start a new grow. Iโm repeating my previous LSD-25 grow this round, using the same setup as previously but using my own soil blend this time.
The previous round yielded just over 1 gram per watt, which isnโt bad, but Iโm hoping this grow will perform even better.
Setup
--------------------------------
Tent
A tiny 40x40 cm tent that I normally use as a small drying tent. It's basic but works well and gets the job done.
Light
I'm using my trusted Viparspectra P600. It's a small, 95 W, full-spectrum light that is dimmable. It offers an almost even cover of light in the small tent. According to my PAR meter, the difference in light is less than 5% between the center and the corners.
Ventilation
A small and basic fan/carbon filter combo, where I placed the filter outside the tent to save space inside.
I'm using a mechanical timer to control the exhaust fan since running it nonstop during the germination and veg period is unnecessary.
Air circulation
Regular clip fans are too big to use in such a small tent, so I use two PC fans attached to the tent poles with a few things from the hardware store.
Electrical
A WiFi-enabled smart power strip is used to connect everything electrical. It has built-in scheduling, so there is no need to use a separate timer for the light.
Container
Iโm using a sub-irrigated planter with 31 liters of medium and a reservoir for 7.5 liters of water.
Medium
Iโm testing out my new soil blend to see how it will perform compared to the commercial product I used in the last grow.
Cultivar
--------------------------------
FastBuds LSD-25 Auto
THC Up to 21%
CBD < 1%
Harvest Indoor 400 โ 500 gr/m2
Height 70 โ 120 cm
Flowering 9 โ 10 weeks
Genes Sativa 35%/Indica 65%
Germination
--------------------------------
I started germination by dropping the seed into a glass of water mixed with myco with fulvic acid. The myco product I use has kelp in it as well, and multiple studies show how kelp benefits germination and rooting.
I also use some of this myco water to soak the root riot plug before planting. To increase the stability, I turned the plug upside down, made a small hole, and planted the seed after soaking it overnight.
The plug now stands on a small propagation tray on a heating mat in my other tent. The light is set at 24 Hours with a DLI of 10.
Now we wait.
Edit: I could see the first signs of germination after only 24 hours, and now after 36 hours we definitely have germination!
@yan402, Two reasons: 1. It's more unique as most plants of this cultivar are purple, and 2. I grew a few purple cultivars in the last year and I'm a bit tired of them... ;)
@BarneyRumble420, Thanks buddy. Yeah, we'll see what happens. She was slow from day one and hadn't even poked out her taproot when I transplanted her. I only hope she is slow and not stunted. Fingers crossed! ๐ค
Wish you find the ๐ phenotype you seek my friend ๐๐โ๏ธ Also em taking some notes on proper germination, em lacking in this....I need a heat mat ๐
@Metatronix, This is just what seems to be working for me. Today, 24 hours later, I can see germination in two, and maybe(?) in the third one as well. Super fast this time, although it is too early to call anything yet.
@Dabking, I'm leaning towards genetics being part of the problem. I mean, sure โ this soil blend obviously has problems, as I can see issues in my other tent as well, but those issues are nowhere near this bad. I've considered chopping her and starting over but decided to let her ride it out. I have more than enough in my stash and am not relying on this harvest. Also, sometimes the plants surprise you. In my latest auto grow, both plants looked terrible for weeks, and I was also considering chopping and starting over. Then they exploded in size and produced my biggest auto harvest ever (over 400 grams from two autos.) So yeah, I'll just let her do her thing, no matter how terrible it'll go :D
@love_2_grow, ah gotchya. Could just be genetics as well. Sometimes the scraggly and ones dealing with issues end up producing some good stuff, albeit at a small quantity.
@Dabking, Thank you for the suggestion, but I doubt this soil lacks nitrogen as it is brand new with lots of worm castings and insect frass. Besides, I grow in living soil and don't use traditional nutrients, so I can't just "Give her some Nitrogen."
Instead, I suspect I'm dealing with a nutrient lockout due to potassium toxicity and/or a pH issue in the soil.
It's interesting to see how this plant reacts to the soil differently than the two plants in my other tent. Out of the tree plants I have in this soil, this plant looks by far the worst. Also, I don't think the soil is the complete reason here, as this plant was tiny from the start. I'm having the soil tested to see what's up.
@nonick123, I think you are 100% correct. The soil is too hot. I suspect too much potassium. I also think you are right that the LSD plant won't grow much bigger. It's OK, though, since I don't need the harvest.
I plan to put a photoperiod in the tent after this grow.
I am growing this same strain and my girl was super tiny until the last five days. Growing at a rate of an inch to inch and a half per day now. She looks super healthy, though. You inspired me previously to pick up this strain, FYI :)
