I hope the vigor shown isn't because it's a male; I'll be keeping an eye on it. For now, I’m keeping my 9 plants in a single tent, as none of the plants are sticking out from the sides of their pots. Today I raised the lights a bit and increased the power, now at 270w, spread across 3 side LED panels (7700K, 6400K, 450nm) and 3 FS lamps in the canopy at 60% power. These 270w divided among 9 plants gives a total of 30w per plant... very manageable. As soon as the plants start asking for lateral space, I’ll set up my second homemade grow tent to grow two plants, leaving 6 plants in the main tent and a small grow in a 5.5L pot... let’s play! Today I did a deep watering, the first one after transplanting, using a mix of nettle tea and a bit of Bio Algas EM. The intention was to wash the substrate a bit with this mix, as I've noticed with other plants that this season's substrates are too loaded with nutrients. Since this seedling is the last in the series of grows, it will encounter many resolved cultivation issues. Now I just hope it's a great Panamanian female... let’s play! Until next time... At first, I was very happy thinking that a lost seed from a Panama Red strain had germinated in the substrate, but seeing it grow, I wasn't sure about its morphology. I expected a sativa with thin, elongated leaves, but that's not the case. What’s really happening is the spontaneous germination of seeds that fell into the mulch, which I reuse every season. At harvest time, the plant with the best chance of being the mother is the strain (Royal Purple Kush) since many seeds have come out, mainly in the lower buds. So, I'm going to grow these 3 bastard seeds in small pots to see what sex they declare. If they are crosses between hermaphrodite plants, all the seeds will be female, but if the unexpected male Durban from last season mated with some of my females, the seeds will be regular. I have never paid attention to hermaphroditism because I believe that a cross or back cross between good strains should yield equally good plants. At least this point will be somewhat clarified, as I intend to only grow seeds born at home in the next season, one step closer to achieving total self-sufficiency in my marijuana crops. And even though they are bastard seeds, with no known father, I embrace them as my own and will never abandon them... all for the cause! Nevertheless, the plant shows extraordinary vigor and growth and is still holding on with the deep watering from last week. I'm going to wait for the substrate to dry as much as possible to facilitate air entry into the substrate and root expansion. So far, the plant has lived cramped among other crops in my main tent. Yesterday, I set up my second grow tent for this plant and two others, a homemade cabinet measuring 60x40x125 cm, currently with a 100w full spectrum lamp. This grow tent allows me to add side lamps without losing space. This plant needs a lot of light to compact it as much as possible. Purple colors have begun to appear on the buds and leaves, likely due to the drop in temperatures. I’m growing three small pots with seeds that, like this one, have germinated spontaneously in the same tent. First week since switching to flowering schedule, I still can’t tell the sex of the plant, deep down I hope it’s a male to clarify if the male Durban pollinated my females and also to leave all the space in the homemade closet for Gorilla Bilbo, but if it’s a female I’ll be happy too, clearly the phenotype it’s showing identifies the mother of this seed: Royal Purple Kush from Emerald Triangle Seeds, a plant that has given me quite a few seeds, it’s a very branched plant with thin leaves, influenced by sativa dominance. For now, the water consumption is high and I’m watering it these weeks with stimulating low-concentration mixes to facilitate the big hormonal transition that comes with switching to flowering. I’ve added a white light panel (7700K) to the grow closet, now 214w spread across two full spectrum lamps in the canopy (150w) and two LED panels on the sides with 7700K and 4000K (64w), I intend to slow down the vertical stretching of the two plants I’m growing in this homemade closet with lights. Third week since switching to flowering schedule, the plant is getting stronger and more beautiful, showing many floral buds everywhere. This week I gave the plant a big feast (EC:2) and it seems to have loved it. It’s from this third week of flowering that I start the big game of Fertilization, increasing the doses and variety of Bio Nutrients... without mercy! ••• Well, despite the low activity on GD, I continue my organic experimental process and this time, taking advantage of the dark and rainy day and having my marijuana stash well-stocked, I'm going to explain with a joint in hand a new practice framed in the concept of "feeding and protecting the soil" that I started experimenting with this week with all my pots. This practice is particularly useful for those who have soil and space for outdoor crops. I don’t have that space; I can only do indoor grows in pots for now, but that doesn't stop me from using these types of techniques. If I had soil and outdoor space, I would do this practice every year during the soil's resting season. This practice consists of covering the soil with fresh green grass and immediately provoking the proliferation of certain lactobacillus, Bacillus subtilis, and a multitude of enzymes that only exist when the grass is freshly cut. Once dried, the grass becomes pure organic matter rich in silicon that will also serve as food for the microbiology. Fresh grass contains Lactobacillus and a multitude of enzymes, and in conjunction with Mountain Microorganisms, I create a Bio ferment with a high population of Microorganisms very efficient in: decomposing organic matter, chelating minerals, and reducing the incidence of pests and diseases in crops, as this type of ferment has antagonistic relationships and competition with different phytopathogenic microorganisms." What have I done and how? Yesterday I went for a walk in the countryside to look for fresh grass, but there are hundreds of types of grass that I don’t know, so the first choice to get the optimal grass is to choose those fields where cows or ruminants generally graze. I chose yesterday to collect the grass because the day before it had rained quite a bit, ensuring cleanliness from dust and impurities in the process. I collected a good amount of fresh grass, still without seeds, mainly cutting the green leaves but also taking some roots that contain trichoderma. On the same day, while the grass is still fresh, I chop it up. This is important because the microbiology of this material is lost very quickly once the grass starts drying out. Once chopped, I mixed it with crushed marijuana leaves that I had accumulated. Then I raked the mulch from my pots, where I already have a lot of microbial activity, humified organic matter, and remnants of dry amendments in the process of disintegration. I added a good layer of grass and mixed it all on the surface. After doing the above, I concluded the process with a practice that will allow me to capture and proliferate the lactobacillus, Bacillus subtilis, and trichodermas in record time, before all that living material is lost with the dehydration of the grass. Finally, I sprayed the entire surface of the grass mixed with the mulch with a solution of mountain water, molasses, and fresh yeast. I want to provoke accelerated fermentation in the grass that will allow the capture of all living elements, enzymes, and minerals. Although I think this practice would have been better during the vegetative development stage, it’s still valuable now, especially to observe the behavior of the practice. This practice arose from reflecting on the care and feeding of outdoor cultivation lands, for me a whole theoretical development that I now apply in my pots. In reality, if I had farmland and thinking about the rotational rest of the plots, I would do it as follows: For the land that will rest that year, I would plant grass and let it grow until it produces seeds, then I would cut it and leave it on the soil. In this case, the solution with molasses and yeast wouldn’t be necessary since the soil where the grass was planted already contains all the microbiology that would convert the grass into organic matter and then into humus. However, if we want to accelerate the process, we can also use the solution with molasses and yeast, but in this case, we spray the grass before cutting it to immediately cut it and leave it moistened with the mixture on the ground. In a year, I could at least have two harvests of grass on these resting lands. The buds are growing and dominating the scene, the plant is gradually shedding its exhausted leaves in favor of having more and more energy to grow its beautiful flowers, and the multiple shoots are competing with each other to see who is the biggest. The plant lives in a very well-lit corner of my main grow tent, and you can see it in the growth of the leaf mass and flowers and in the high water consumption for irrigation. So far, the plant only shows gratitude for each and every feast I give it. At the beginning of the week, I thought the plant was aging rapidly, so I gave it a watering thinking it would be the last. When the day came that the moisture ran out in the substrate, I looked closely and what had happened was that the small leaves surrounding the buds had darkened, giving the impression that they were exhausted. But no, the buds are very vigorous with active and young flower shoots growing everywhere; the overall look is fantastic, the buds full of shoots that seem like stars growing against a dark purple background. deFharo Welcome, clandestine marijuana growers, and also to those lucky enough not to be one! 🙋‍♂️👨‍🌾 19 weeks of life for this plant born at home, and then grown in the warmth of my home, 12 weeks since switching to the flowering schedule of 12/12h. Today I harvested this homegrown plant, and with it, I wrap up the fall/winter growing season. I'm very happy because the goals I set at the beginning have been successfully met; in the end, I managed to get decent yields from all the crops. - I started the season intending to compare two different substrate mixes; both showed a lot of efficiency with hardly any distinction. - I wanted to compact the plants as much as possible using intense lights with specialized light spectrums from the start. I achieved plants with heights between 60-70cm, very branched and strong. During flowering, the height helped me illuminate the plants from all sides, resulting in good buds from the middle-lower parts of the plants. - I practiced minimal intervention; I only made one apical cut per plant and some ties on the plants that needed it. In return, I got wide plants that have given me an exceptional overall yield. - I used a much lower pot humidity level than in previous seasons to encourage root expansion. In the pots I’ve opened so far, the rooting is phenomenal, much better than in other seasons. In fact, this technique has been noticeable in water consumption, which has been stable and higher than usual in all types of pots. • I’m going to grow 6 mostly sativa plants in my main tent (60x120x178cm), repeating the same setup as this last season with 3 15L fabric pots and 3 old school 11L pots. I only wanted to grow 6 plants, but I’ve committed to two more strains that I will cultivate in my homemade cabinet (60x40x120cm) in 11L pots. Now I will start preparing for the upcoming season: - First, rest from the previous season and recharge my batteries. - Recover all the leftover mulch from the pots. - I recover and store the substrate used for future growing seasons. - I clean the grow tent, lamps, and fans, then do a deep disinfection with an ozone generator locked in the grow tent for a couple of days. - Installing two new COB chips in old lamps with a blue color spectrum of 450/470nm to further enhance plant compactness. This type of blue light, which I used a while ago, completely modifies the shape of the plants, making them more compact and wide, as well as promoting rooting.
