DO SI DOS #33
DAY 0 - 26th Oct
- Seeds wet 4pm
- Sank and planted at 6:30pm
Fully germinated by 30th Oct
Products used: Dynomyco; aloe vera powder; and Ecothrive Flourish, Biosys and Neutralise
Germination has gone pretty much perfectly. I used to be a lot more hands-on with my seed-starting, submerging them in water before transferring to a wet paper towel and then a jiffy plug, whereas now I take them straight from the water and plant them. It’s soo much easier, and I haven’t noticed much, if any difference in their success.
WEEK 1 VEG: 2nd - 9th Nov
Started this week with a bit of a sad transplant. I saw roots coming through the bottom of the small pots and mistakenly thought it was time to get one of the plants into its big pot. The soil was nice and moist, but because there wasn’t enough root structure, it just sort of crumbled in my hand and most of the roots just disappeared. Hoping for the best, I still planted the poor thing, covered it with a cloche, and now it’s doing great! I transplanted the other one at the end of the week with no trouble. Both babies are looking happy in their new homes! Here’s to a stress-free grow.
WEEK V2: 9th - 16th NOV
Week 2! Both plants are settling into their big pots happily. I’ve been keeping the cover crop short. There are a few lovely cover crop specimens thriving, too, including clover, buckwheat and phacelia. I noticed I’ve been keeping the humidity a little high this week, so I’ve lowered it to 60-65% RH.
The plants haven’t stretched as much as I would have liked this week, so I removed the first 2 nodes of growth to give me a more open space to work with. I won’t be doing any topping, as I’m going to try entirely using LST to shorten my veg time. I’m really excited to train this grow!
I’ve bought some EM-5, considered making it myself but I probably couldn’t get through much EM-1 before it expires. But it looks fun and I do want to try it!
WEEK V3: 16th - 23rd NOV
The plants have been growing HARD this week. Since dialling in my environment, they’ve just exploded with growth. Their first dose of EM-5 was given at the start of the week, and it worked great! It’s a wonderful cleaning solution.
I think it’s about time to start bending these girls, to expose some of the lower branches! See you next week ✌️
WEEK V4: 23rd - 30th NOV
Lots of bending this week! With these flimsy fabric pots, it’s hard to use soft ties to my advantage. However, I’ve installed my scrog net with mounting bars to suppress it from bowing in. It looks really nice! Hopefully I can LST a bit easier now the net is here. I’ve had to do a bit of HST (supercropping) to lower the apical stems, and it seemed to work pretty well!
That’s about it for this week! Let’s get this net filled out!!!! 🌿🌺
WEEK V5: 30th NOV - 7th DEC
Another week of filling out the scrog net! The plants have been vegging so vigorously, with a lovely vibrant green to the leaves. The pots will need a top dress soon if the soil is going to keep up with this growth in flower! Eco-Thrive Life-Cycle is my amendment of choice for veg, but it can also be used in flower. Since it’s all I currently have, it’s what I’ll be using!
These 2 plants are a little different in terms of size and node spacing, but are similar in their leaves and smell. So they are a little uneven; but they’re sisters, not twins!
Will probably flip to flower next week. Want to make the most of the winter cold, so I won’t need to use my portable AC unit hopefully.
Until next week, friends ✌️
WEEK V6: 7th - 15th DEC
Last week of veg! I think I’m at the perfect point where the plants will produce without too much intervention, but I’ll definitely still defoliate and train to keep the canopy flat, as I just can’t help myself it seems!
I’m keeping the cover crop quite short from now on, however I might let a couple of singular plants grow if they can. I’ve top-dressed with about 25g of Ecothrive Life-Cycle per pot. I may need some more nutrition but I’m on my third run with these pots and so I’m itching to see what the state of the soil is. I top-dressed quite a lot of bloom nutrients last run and don’t want to overdo it.
Let’s see some flowers!! 🌺
WEEK F1: 17th - 24th DEC
We’re finally here! This first week of stretch has been splendid. The plants are so full and luscious, I seem to be defoliating every couple of days just to keep them from becoming too bushy. Not much in terms of bud development yet, probably because they’re so focused on stretching.
Not much to report on due to the hectic festive season, but I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Catch you next week 💚
WEEK F2: 24th - 31st DEC
2023 is a wrap everybody! This year has been a great one for growing, with some amazing herb to show for it. Unfortunately it all gets smoked pretty quickly 🤣
Lots of stretching this week! The girls are nice and tall now, and will get very bushy if I’m not careful. I’ve been defoliating quite a lot, but my humidity is still a little high so I’ve got all my fans on max for some good airflow. There’s good internodal spacing on these plants too so they should be fine.
2024 will have the best herb yet!
Sending love folks
WEEK F3: 31st DEC - 7th JAN
Happy new year! We’re well into the stretch now, almost done hopefully, because these girls are so tall! Buds are developing well, with some interesting colours and smells. Good space and airflow currently, so I’ve eased up on the defoliation.
Trichomes are starting to cover the leaves already! I’m so excited to see how these flowers progress further. The plants are drinking a lot too which is good! Anyway, catch you next week with another update! ✅💚 l
WEEK F4: 7th - 14th JAN
End of stretch - thank God! We’ve just about run out of room in the tent. Turned the light down to 75% as I think the DLI will be more within my desired range. These girls are producing some real frost! One of them is also getting a real nice purple on the tips. Will probably need to defoliate some more over the next couple weeks but for now the air flow is decent. Would ideally like a fan at the bottom of the tent but I’ll have to make do for now. Will be back with more pics next week! 👍💜
WEEK F5: 14th - 21st JAN
This week has been a nice relaxing one, just watching the plants put on weight and frost. Been taking a few leaves off here and there, but other than that I’ve just been letting them do their thing. The buds are small but super dense, and I can’t wait to try them! The smell is already super sweet and fruity. From now on it’s just a case of keeping an eye on them and maintaining the environment!
WEEK F6: 21st - 28th JAN
Week 6 is done! I’ve turned the light down to 50% to ease up on their stress for the last 2-4 weeks. I’ve been getting tiny amounts of runoff, as I only water every other day and am trying to dial in the soil moisture because these girls are drinking a lot! There are some humidity spikes but the tent sits around 50% RH most of the time. The flowers are really dank and sweet smelling! Gonna be a great smoke as always. See you next week! 🌸💚
WEEK F7: 28th JAN - 4th FEB
Approaching the end now! I’m going to keep an eye out for signs that the plants are almost ready to be harvested, like senescence and amber trichomes. They smell amazing! Very sweet and fruity. My light is on 25% as I don’t want to enable any foxtailing in this final stretch. Everything seems to be going well, there are a few micro-seeds but honestly nothing to worry about. The colours are soooo satisfying! ⭐️
WEEK F8: 4th - 11th FEB
2 months in flower! This has been a great run. The 2 different phenos of this strain have kept me on my toes, being so different, and it’s been great fun looking after them! Upon close inspection of the trichomes, it seems these plants will need at least 9 weeks. So close to the end though! Looking like they’ll be a treasure to trim too. Happy days! 💚
WEEK F9: 11th - 19th FEB
The plants have been smooth sailing under the 25% light. I reckon they’ll be done around the end of week 10, give or take a few days. Trying my best to keep temps and humidity low, and although I can’t get fully down to 70f or 40% regularly, I think my environment is as good as it can be right now. I’m checking every other day for mold or any other issues. My airflow is great, so I should be okay. Still, can never be too careful! See you next week 🌸
WEEK F10: 18th - 25th FEB
Had the plants under 10% light for this final week, as I wanted them to start senescing and to also minimise bleaching on the taller plant and keep temps down. It worked! Getting some lovely fall colours and the bleaching has stopped! Unlike a lot of my other grows, the terps really seem to have stuck around, but they’ll be further tested during the dry, as I don’t know if I’ll be able to get the temps as low as they need to be. Pray for me! Hoping this is the cleanest and best tasting smoke yet. Only time will tell! Going to chop on Tuesday. 💚
Honestly not much to say about the dry and trim, which is definitely a good thing. 12 days hanging in the tent, and the plants were ready to trim. me & the Mrs. absolutely sailed through it. Stores like a dream, and smokes the same. Not a crazy amount of flavour, but the aroma that it has is lime and cream. And the taste is more earthy and spicy. Loving and savouring every bit of it. Sorry I’m very late with this, but I’ve been busy getting my next plants started! You should see them come up soon, as I’m quite behind in my posting. I’m very happy! 🤟💚
