Germination

Ended up accidentally torching the two previous Gold Leaf plants, so we start over. Seedling is currently in a rapid rooter under a humidity dome with the light at 30" at 30% intensity. Once she's established she's going into a Solo Cup with Happy Frog only. Previous soil mix was too hot for the seedlings, I ended up losing both of them. 3 Granddaddy Purple Autos will be along for the ride in this grow, currently germinating in paper towel underneath the plates. All 3 seeds are popped, just waiting on the taproots to grow out a little more before they also go into Rapid Rooters. Day 2 - Nothing notable to report, just staying out of the Gold Leafs way and making sure her cube has enough water to stay moist. GDP auto seeds had nice looking long taproots under the plates, so they went into their Rapid Rooters 15 minutes before lights went off for the night. Day 3 - Gold Leaf appears to be doing well, looking much greener than yesterday and happy in the dome. Little yellowing on one of the seed leaves, but I'm not too concerned as she struggled a little bit to find her way out from below the surface. The 3 GDP autos are looking good, one is already starting to peek out above the Rapid Rooter. All 4 will get more water as needed when the cubes are looking like they need it, probably in the PM. Day 4 - All the seedlings appear to be doing okay, noticed a white-ish substance on one of the Gold Leafs seedling leaves. Mold maybe? Leaves are dark green otherwise, so I'm going to lay off on watering it for today. 3 autos got a few squirts of water from the sprayer as their rooters were drier than the Gold Leaf rooter. Day 5 - Gold Leaf is recovering from a bit of overwatering, but seems to be doing okay. GDP Autos are all doing well, but are starting to stretch a bit towards the light. I bumped the intensity of the light from 30% to just under 40% to see if that helps them out. No water/feed for now, as the plugs still look moist and according to General Hydroponics, the plugs are fortified with nutrients already. Height extender went on the dome today to allow for more vertical space/air in the dome.

Gold leaf #1 has developed a white substance on one of its seed leaves. Can anyone tell me what this is, and if I need to do anything to combat it it necessary? Going to let the Gold Leaf dry a little bit (no water) over the next 24 hours and see if that helps.

if that is a peat plug or anything like it, it is void of nutrients and plants need them to grow. It also looks to wet and waterlogged that's not good for the baby roots. Double check you feed concentrations and watering habits. less is more in terms of water in seedlings and a week feed should be good for mediums void of nutrients. Best Of Luck!

Day 6 - All 4 plants had roots showing below the seedling tray this morning, so it's transplanting day. The 3 GDP Autos got transplanted into 3 gallon pots, the Gold Leaf went into a 1 gallon pot. All of the plants got a light watering with Bigfoot Mycorrhizae solution to help them settle in, 2 cups for the GDP autos, 1 cup for the Gold Leaf. I'll be checking on them later tonight to see how they've handled the stress, the Gold Leaf still doesn't look fantastic, but the roots seem OK. Hopefully the "feed" from the soil helps all 4 rebound relatively quickly. Day 7 - Think the Gold Leaf isn't gonna make it, but I'm keeping her in the tent anyways just in case she decides to recover. The 3 GDP Autos seem to be thriving in their new pots, cotyledon leaves have grown since yesterday. Humidity jumped up in the tent without the aid of the humidifier, so I'm hoping that's a sign that the 3 plants are beginning to transpirate and add oxygen and water vapor into the tent on their own. No water as of right now, they got maybe a half cup apiece last night before lights went out, and the soil appears somewhat damp still. Dialed the light up a bit from just under 40% to about 45%, gonna see if the plants respond well to it. Day 9 - The Gold Leaf didn't make it, pretty sure I accidentally overwatered it in the seedling plug, it never took off post transplant. The 3 GDP Auto plants are doing very well in the new pots. A more experienced friend of mine suggested the tent was too cold, and he was right. Once I got the tent up to 78-80 degrees the growth exploded. I had to go on a long weekend trip to Chicago so I set up my Blumat drip irrigation system to make sure the plants don't want for watering while I'm gone. Watered each plant with half strength GrowBig from Fox Farm in order to get the soil moisture levels right for the Blumat carrots. Light was dialed from 45 to 50% now that the plants appear to have established themselves well in the new containers.

Day 12 - Came back last night to happy plants, so the blumat did the trick for 4 days. They looked a touch dry so I gave them a small supplemental water of 2q/plant. Noticeable growth on all 3 plants while I was away. Day 13 - All 3 plants are humming along nicely. On their next supplemental water they'll get some more mycorrhizae and a full strength feed of GrowBig. Swapped the water in the blumat system due to smelling stale. Probably should look at a smaller container than 5 gal for 3 plants. Dialed the light from 55% to 60%, they'll probably cruise in veg there for a few weeks. Day 14 - Plants are nice and happy, growing steadily. They seem to have taken to the increased light intensity well, no signs of light stress from what I can see. Supplemental mycorrhizae and GrowBig in the next few days when the soil is a little drier on all 3 plants. Day 15 - Plants looked ready for a top water, so each pot got about 1qt. of mycorrhizal drench and GrowBig, and 1 qt. of 6.3ph water. Very little runoff from the pots. Cleaned the humidifier and made sure the blumats were properly calibrated. They look happy and healthy to my (amateur) eye, just trying to stay out of their way at this point. Day 16 - Gals took the feed pretty well, I found them working on their next nodes of growth this evening. No messing with them tonight, just checked the environment in the tent and made some adjustments to the heating mat to make sure the soil stays warm over the next few nights (it's supposed to get pretty cold here over the weekend). Might kick on the space heater again if I notice the temperature inside the tent starting to drop too much. Day 17 - Gals are looking happy and healthy, with the 3rd node well on its way to growing out and getting established. Gave them a bit of a break from the humidifier today in order to have them uptake some nutrients from the soil/have them get some variety in terms of humidity. Kicked the humidifier back on tonight, will probably kick the space heater back on for the tent in the next few days as the cold snap moves in. Day 18 - Kicked the space heater back on today to help maintain temperature at where it needs to be inside the tent. Gals are looking good, will probably look into beginning LST on them soon.

For people who use Blumat systems, what's the procedure for mixing in nutrients/supplemental things for growth? The Blumat system pulls water when the soil dries past a certain point, so what's the best rule for feeding in that case? Shut the system "off" a few days pre feed?

Day 19 - Gals are vibing in the tent and coming along nicely. All 3 working on the 4th node now. All 3 blumats were going when I checked on them this evening, which means theyre starting to drink more aggressively. They should be tall enough to start LST this week I hope. Day 20 - Another day, another bit of growth for the 3 ladies. Top water is tomorrow, as the blumats are running and the soil is drying out a bit. Day 21 - Gals got a top water tonight. Each pot got 1.5-2 quarts of 6.3ph water, producing a touch of runoff on each pot. Took some of the very top layer of soil off on Gal 3, it was starting to grow a little bit of algae on the surface. Other than that, they look happy and healthy to me. Day 22 - Gals got another water at a friend's suggestion, another 2 quarts/pot of 6.3ph water, my soil wasn't fully saturated from the previous nights water. Day 23 - Gals look much happier now that they've been properly watered, should be able to start LST tomorrow. Day 24 - Decided to wait a few more days on LST to let the plants get a little taller. Checked the tent and made sure the girls were doing well. Day 25 - Did a quick check on the girls to make sure everything was copacetic. Day 26 - Girls got a top watering and a foliar feed in preparation for LST now that they've put some more height on.

Day 26 - Girls got a top watering and a foliar feed in preparation for LST now that they've put some more height on. Smell inside of the tent is awesome. Day 27 - Got the net installed and the plants trained down into the net as best as I could. #3 was the easiest as she is the tallest, the other 2 are staying shorter and more bushy, but I was able to get them spread out as much as I could. Day 28 - I did a little more LST on the net, and cleaned up/ directed the new growth in the direction I want the plants to grow in. Humidity has started to self-maintain inside the tent, just need to keep the girls fed properly and keep on top of the screen until they flower at this point. Day 29 - Did a more thorough tie down tonight to get the plant stems where they needed to be, just used plant ties and drilled some holes into the sides of the pot. Gals get fed again tomorrow, mycorrhizal drench and some GrowBig. I need to start taking pre training pictures instead of post, they normally don't look this disheveled I promise. Day 30 - Gals got a top feed tonight, approximately 2 quarts of GrowBig and mychorrizae solution per plant. Did some more training and didn't think to take a picture beforehand. Day 31 - Gals got a continuation of the top feed with 2 more quarts of water per plant. Not as worried about runoff now that I have a shop vac to help pick up the excess water. Just need to keep training them into the net until I have a nice, even canopy for flowering. Day 32 - Another day, another training session on the net. Dialed the light up from 75 to a touch under 80%. Starting to get kind of thick in there, hoping I can get a full canopy over the next week or so.

Day 33 - I checked on the girls today and what I suspected on day 32 is right. They're starting to flower. They got a foliar feed of GrowBig and BigBloom tonight after the lights went out, another top watering in the next few days. Day 34 - Girls got a defoliation today. Just took all the stuff below the net and selectively pruned up top to better expose some flower sites to more light. Blumats were running pretty aggressively, so they got a top watering of about 3 quarts per plant after the defoliation. Day 35 - The Girls bounced back from their defoliation just fine. Just checked light distance and turned it up from 80-85% today. Looking to slowly dial the light up until we're at 100% over the next week or so. Day 36 - Girls are looking good, the shorter one seems to be catching up to the canopy height a little more. Blumats are dripping, so top water tomorrow. Day 37 - Girls got a top water today with some GrowBig and BigBloom today. Probably going to need another defoliation in the next few days. Day 38 - Girls are coming along nicely. #1 is starting to finally put on some height and get into the canopy. #2 and #3 have stretched quite a bit since the start of flower. Lights officially cranked to 100%. Day 39 - Gals got a very light defoliation today to clean up under the first net and remove growth that's blocking flower sites. I decided since my taller branches are starting to stretch pretty far above the canopy to add an additional support net about 10 inches further up in the tent. I also moved my fans around to start circulating air underneath and above the canopy now that the plants are tall enough. They'll probably get a light watering tonight and/or some foliar feed since the blumats are dripping.

Day 40 - Girls are doing good, starting to get a little dense in the lower canopies, but I'm trying to wait until day 15 of flower to do a heavier defoliation. Day 41- Girls looked a little droopy today, so they got a foliar feed after the lights went out for the night. Day 42 - Girls got a half gallon of regular water tonight to keep them happy. Day 43 - Girls got another half gallon of water today. Some leaves are starting to not look so great due to the density of the lower canopy. Will probably need to defoliate a little sooner than expected. Day 44 - Ended up taking the nets out of the tent, they weren't really doing anything in terms of encouraging an even canopy at this point and we're making it difficult to work with the ladies. They got a pretty heavy defoliation and re-arranged in the tent to provide better light exposure to my shorter plant. Day 45 - Started to notice tip burn on my top leaves. Buddy of mine said it looked like cal-mag deficiency, as well as the plants looking hungry because the soil is probably exhausted. They got a double strength feed of GrowBig and BigBloom, about a gallon per plant, as well as a foliar feed once the lights went out. Day 46 - The foliar feed helping to somewhat mitigate the tip burn and the plants looked happier. Day 47 - Cal-Mag arrived in the afternoon so the ladies got a double strength Cal-Mag dose in their gallon of water to help them recover. Snapped a picture this morning, and they already look much better.

Day 48 - Plants continue to recover from cal-mag deficiency, but otherwise are doing well. Got a foliar spray of some calmag and nutrients to help them along. Day 49 - Nothing to report, just waiting on the ladies to mature fully at this point. Gals got another dose of water + cal-mag tonight, about a gallon per pot. Starting to see trichomes develop on the buds now Day 50 - Plants continue to recover, probably will need to do an additional defoliation in the next few days. Day 51 - Plants continue to look better, they got a foliar feed of calmag tonight along with some TigerBloom+BigBloom. Day 52 - Gals got another defoliation today, I focused to taking the bad looking leaves from the calmag deficiency and whatever was blocking flowering sites. Day 53 - Fed 1/3rd gallon of nutes and the remaining 2/3rds of the gallon with calmag water. Starting to figure out better settings for flower close-ups under the grow light. Day 54 - Just pictures today. Got a pocket microscope that I'll be using when the time is right (probably another 3ish weeks) to verify trichome state for harvest.

Day 55 - Girls got a gallon of calmag water today, and a foliar feed of calmag and TigerBloom once the lights went out. #2 is finally starting to bloom out a bit more. Day 56 - Girls got another feed of calmag and nutrients today because they were still looking thirsty. Probably need to switch to daily feeding for the rest of flower. Day 57 - Just pictures for today. Going to give them a nice flush next watering as we head into the last 3 weeks of flower. Day 58 - Another nute + calmag feed tonight. I ended up pulling the heating mat out of the tent while I was doing so, the light seems to be maintaining temperature just fine in the tent without the mat now. Also opened up the top sock and side vent on the tent to drop the humidity a little bit, as it was around 75% in there this evening, which is a little too moist for my liking (50-60% is the goal). Day 59 - Just pictures today. Girls seem to appreciate the slightly drier air. Moved the shorter plant up on a riser to get a more even canopy/get that plant at the appropriate height for where the light is at. Day 60 - Girls got .5gal of feed (calmag and TigerBloom) tonight and a calmag foliar spray after the lights went out. Probably give them some more water tomorrow. Day 61 - Girls got a little more water today, other than that not much else to do other than take some pictures and continue to observe until harvest time.

Day 62 - Forgot to take photos today, but they got .5gal of feed and a foliar spray after the lights went out. Day 63 - Another day closer to harvest. Girls got another .5gal of feed and the light moved up to keep it within the distance I want. Day 64 - Another day, another .5gal of feed. Going to start slowly flushing the plants over the next few waterings now that we're 2ish weeks away from harvest (planning to chop them at Day 78-80, but it depends on what the trichomes tell me) Day 65 - Plants were observed and watered with .5gal again. They'll get properly PHed water for the rest of the grow now. Day 66 - Just pictures today. The smallest plant is really starting to get dense colas underneath all the foliage. The other two continue to pack weight onto the main colas. Day 67 - All 3 got hit with about a gallon of calmag/kelp water, and from a buddy's suggestion, I took a sampling of 1 of the lower branches from each plant to dry out and try to see where I'm at. While they look good, the branches aren't going to contribute anything significant towards my yield, so I figured why not. Day 68 - Another day, another gallon per pot. I actually put a little feed into this one, as I can probably push a little more nutrients in before the heavy flush a week out. Smell inside the tent is incredible.

Day 69 - Just a picture of the ladies for tonight. Did a little housekeeping inside the tent, the aromas have started to turn more sweet and fruity vs. The pure skunk punch that was present a week or so ago. Taking a look with the scope tomorrow to see where the trichomes are at. Day 70 - Girls got a half gallon of feed tonight, they're drinking less water/feed now, the half gallon took a good bit to absorb. Trichs are completely cloudy on all 3 plants. Might need to adjust my anticipated harvest date, they appear to be finishing a little faster than anticipated. Day 71 - Just pictures tonight. Probably going to do a flush of blackstrap molasses and water starting tomorrow in preparation for harvest. Day 72 - Forgot to take pictures today, but flushed with blackstrap molasses and water, about 1 gal each plant. Day 73 - Girls got another gallon of water and blackstrap. Caught a good amount of amber trichomes on the scope today, so we're getting close to harvest.

Harvest Day! Took the entire plant at the main stem and hung them upside down in the tent for 14 hours to draw some moisture out of the plants before main processing. Plants were taken by the node where possible and given a rough trim before re-hanging on clothes hangers to hang back inside the tent. I would have preferred to have kept the plants whole for a slower dry, but there was too much plant matter to keep the tent within an acceptable humidity spec (74% with the whole plants). Tents now sitting at 62% relative humidity and about 63 degrees. Not bang-on 60/60 that I've heard is ideal for a slow dry, but close enough to not risk any bud rot developing while the plants dry. UPDATE: Buds took a week, but they finally dried. Spent all day trimming, ended up with the following dry yields. Whole Flower (stuff worth jarring) - 8.1oz Shake/Trim - 1.8oz Dry Sift from Trimming - 7
