April Fool I am. Started with ambitious indoor / outdoor season for the warmer months. Will add the outdoor efforts on another diary. Went with Skywalker OG as I think one of my favourite terpenes is Limonene, certainly the fruitier part of the spectrum also noticed its descended from the BlueberryOG which from the last run and previous smoking I'm a massive fan, Just got some BluePancakes from Humboldt for my first photo in Season 3. Also wanted to try Runtz, similarly it comes from Zkittles which I also am a fan. The solo cups hold 2 Runtz and a Blue Cheese I had left over from last season, these went outside for a little experiment, (posted in Season 2 - Outdoor)... In retrospect I should have kept that larger (BC) in the tent as it was a total monster. Started these by popping in a towel, dropping straight into pre-soaked medium with some extra MicroR. Apart from Silicon that was it until LST and proper veg stage... (please correct me on anything here, I'm very much a nueb/kook and don't really speak about this with anyone else or anyone that knows about it).
After some research I decided to go for Advanced Nutrients for all amendments. Starting slow and building towards flower, then adding some Bud Candy. These plants really took off lol, shit got out of hand and I let them run a little, I'm definitely a habitual defoliator, I cant stop clipping when I really should just let them be, anyway I moved the tent out of the Closet space as its a friendlier time of year so they don't need the extra protection, kinda why I let them go, Season 1 needed to be smaller in height as they would have suffered outside the tent. Still topped and administered some LST, tried some clips out, but they were far too small and ended up snapping a stem. Would like to give them a go again but will research a bit more next time and not just go for Amazon crap. So far in terms of holding things down I really like the early pegs in the soil approach. I also tried some trellis netting this time, definitely like it and will be more prepared next time. Had to bail for an Easter break so a buddy came through and watered in nuets for me. SKOG was noticeably more Sativa-esque, thinner, stretchier. Runtz with the fatter leaves.
So everything took off in flower, I was super harsh with the defoliating which initially I regretted, but was surprised with how they packed out during the following weeks. In general it's impressive how hardy these plants are. Even the outdoor grows yielded some quality. Add some more nuets (overdrive and carbo load), before flushing about 14 days before harvest, next time I'll do this earlier and really the Runtz could have gone another week but my drying needs to happen in the same space as my growing for now. Apologies for the quality of image, I'm just using my phone and some bits I have to document, I collect records too, so expect weird noises lol. Build a rotating plat from a lazt susan I found, has been the best piece of kit added this season.
Finshed quicker than the Runtz it was locked up with. Great strain, enjoyed wrangling the spindly stems and trying to control the growth. A fun planet to grow. Smokes smooth too.
Really happy with how this cam out. Will definitely revisit this strain with more experience. I had another bag of lower popcorn that I didn;t shoot, used all of the trim with aherb oven (recommend) to decarboxylate and made an amazing variety edibles. My first time trying, I used coconut oil for the base for Cookies, brownies and some healthy gubbins my partner wanted to try out. Worked well for all.
Runtz needed more time that I coudn't offer this time. I really like this strain, for me was super bushy which is great cause I love cutting, really took the nuets well and properly chunked out in the last 2 weeks of feed, wasn't as potent as the SkyWalker it was bunking with but had more of a profile maybe, was a bit gassy? Only a bit and was a popular choice as we are able to roll large spliffs and get through one in a sitting between 3 or 4 people around a late night wood burning session. Happy days!
Ultimately I want to go full organic but time is life's richest commodity, so it will probably be a few seasons before I get their. Also I don't have a drying setup which is a problem for this next run which is in week-1 rn (I go week one staring veg in my calendar). For drying / curing, I'm looking at fitting out a second hand wine fridge as I cant spend heavy on the Cure Puck or any of those auto fridge setups. Who knows maybe they come down in price. Peace out, happy growing to all.
