So I'm starting this second season with clones from the first one; choosing the best ones we have 2 Euphoria, 1 og kush and 1 gelato#33.
I'm trying to switch to something more sustainable and bio, so i'reasearxhing for a water only strategy with water automation so I can be more relaxed previous getting out on vacation.
First I've reused the soil from my last season and reamend it with 20% of wormcastings from atami plus 20ish% of perlite. Then for each 20L/5gal pot I've added:
- 1+1/2 cups of diatomaceous earth
- 1+1/2 cup of calcium carbonate
- 3 cups of basalt rock powder
This was my base for both techniques I'm testing, one from biotabs, and the other from greenhouse genetics
So on the left, we have the biotabs testing, 1 Euphoria and one gelato#33, on the soil:
- 3 biotabs each
- 100g startex
- 5g mycotrex
- 5g bactrex
- 5ml/L orgatrex ( added 1L after transplant)
On the right we have the greenhouse feedings bio line testing, 1 Euphoria, 1 og kush, on the soil:
- great white mycos
- 60g greenhouse feedings biogrow
- 1g/L greenhouse feedings bio enhancer
Both seems to have a really good chance of success and both have pros and cons, I'm trying to reduce the number of used products as well and that seems to be a negative point on biotabs, however they have the full nutrients needed to amend an grow, meanwhile greenhouse feedings makes you reamend the soil at least with wormcastings and calcium before each grow, and you must get this outside of the line....
So this week the girls are acclamation the new root space and getting bigger day by day, so I'll start the LST. They really bounce back and are really healthy.
Installed my new watering system, that for now is just a driver ring connected to a water pump inside of a 20L bucket, connected to a smart switch. Each ant was his own pump so they can have different water needs (like I saw on the gelato#33 previously). The water is just rain water with added silica, and that's what I'm watering with...
This week I've foliar spray them with leaf coat from biobizz
Continued the LST, everything seems OK, they all look very healthy and they aren't showing any signs of nutrition under or over ferts... to pump them a bit I'm using boom boom foliar every 2 weeks intercalated with the leaf coat.
Trying to improve my water automation adding a soil moisture sensor to each plant... but this things are too finicky... it's better to invest in a blumat system... and I'll eventually....less power and works like a charm even if the power goes off... but probably only for the next one....
They are growing fast and strong... going to make some deformation during next week and them put the treeline in place to finish spread the cannopy and give some support ... they missed it last time... going to be my first scrog ever... let's see how it goes..
So tried to make one final maintenance of the lower plants before put in the screen... really impressed with the vitality and consistency of the plants using this nutrients... but still can not say if one is better than the other... that conclusion might not be there until the smoke...
I will maintain the canopy during the week and if all goes as planned i'm thinking flipping to flower next week..
My watering system isn't auto yet... I'm still trying to tune the soil moisture sensor to understand when to water but yeah a blumat system is way easier I think....but in other perspective since I'm trying to go organic/living soil I'm not sure if go to a blumat or an automotive because of the principle of the clean water on the bottom and food on the top (when I top dress)
Still a lot to figure out...
Just got an ac for the summer in a nice deal, so now I can grow all year long =)
One more week as passed, they are really nice and healthy so I'll flip to flower today =)
Did some maintenance where I could reach, it's not as good as I would like but I think is a nice scrog....
I'm really impressed with this Organic strategies and how healthy the plants are.... I hope this reflects on the terps as well.... I'm really curious to see the final difference since I don't use organic nuts in more than 10y and at the time it was still bottled ones (bio bizz) nothing to complain though.... But I got better bud structure from atami salts....
Let the buds show up!
First week of flower, all going well...top dressed the 2 plants on the right (euforia on the back og kush on the front) with greenhouse feedings bio bloom.
OG kush started flowering on the second day after flip like the last time without almost no stretching... the other 3 are still stretching and the euforia is starting to flower as well
All healthy without any issues so far... loving the simplicity and nice results that I'm having... it seems that it is all in cruise control lol
Hei guys, sorry for missing last week but this is season is so in "auto cruising" that I forgot to take pictures last week.
They finish stretching and are producing flower, all healthy a strong... I dont remember the last time I got such healthy plants with almost no effort...
I'm really pleased with the organic nuts that I'm trying right now and I'll definitely be using them for the next years...still not sure about which brand, both of them have pros and cons when related... I'll wait to compare if there is any significant production difference between the 2 euforia plants to make that decision.
So 4th we of flowering and everything is looking amazing... i had to go to my home two for the weekend and for the first time this run I'm noticing some decoloration on the euforia that is following the greenhouse feedings chart but nothing major... maybe the top dress is taking a bit to get to the roots... I'll try my best to not correct it since this is an experiment to choose my nutrient regime but if it continues I'll have to had something to correct it... from another perspective this plant is starting to show some light stress and some purple hues are coming out on the leaves. I still think is to early for this but this is not happening with the biotabs run neither with mineral ferts on the previous run and they are a clone of that plant... the idea to switch to organic is to improve quality (so this maybe it?) and take me some overhead to look for important things to improve....
All I can say is that has been a great experience from beginning....
One more week has passed, they are terping out =)
Not much to add... The euforia using the greenhouse feedings is continuing to fade, I'm a bit worried with the final quality but this test is exactly to evaluate which is the best for me...
The other one, using biotabs is only starting to fade now, is also showing some purple colors, and both gelato #33 and OG Kush still are green and healthy...
I'm glad to have both euforia clones to compare A with B, or else would be almost impossible to see Which nut line is best for me....
Finished week 7 and entering week 8 of flowering, the euforias are really fadeout and I'm a it worried about quality compromise for now on... however analyzing the trichomes I think one or two weeks are still needed... let's see how they are at rhe end of this one...
Had a bit trouble with my auto watering system... afraid of overwhatering during flower I think I didn't give enough water on the two front plants... but nothing to worry about I think....
So these where amazing plants on my last grow and these clones are exactly as the mother...can't find much difference between them for now except that the one that was feeded with greenhouse feedings as a bit better bud structure, however I think it was better exposed to the light...this was the one that showed deficiencies starting on week 4 of flowering so I've decided give a try to greenhouse again someday, but for now I'll be playing with biotabs since is a more complete line (they include mycos and soil refresh with silicate flash) and overall it's a bit simple some how....
This great cultivar this time had the opportunity to flourish... such a creamy smell that inundated the room... bud fat buds twice as big as the last time... I think it I'll be the great producer of this season regardign weight and frostyness...really hopping to press some rosin of this
The OG never disappoints... I'm a bit mad that I didn't save the best one of the two from last season, but this squatty plant as every single trait that we want to see on this cultivar...it really liked greenhouse feedings but I don't see much difference on it from my last grow.... which is not a bad thing at all...
Hi Growmie, this is an Interesting Diary, and i was reading all your Comments and thoughts.
And yes, enriching the soil is a very good and effortless strategy for Growing.
adding silica for the structure h elps .
we have an additonal product called silicum flash
i let you the link for reading
https://biotabs.nl/en/product/silicium-flash/
@Biotabs, thanks for reaching out and the comment, I'm really inclined to use your products for now on, even sent you a message via your site to clarify some doubts, some about that product and no-tiling, others about the pk booster , but 2weeks have been passed and no feedback unfortunayely...
Which dimming intensity? Why 50cm distance?
The company recommends 30cm and 75% intensity in veg and 100% in bloom.
I am happy to learn from you!
Thanks
