For my very first grow they did very well from what I can tell they are very potent smell is amazing and had a blast and learned a lot growing them. One issue I had was I feel like they ended up kind of small, this could be my fault partly but I cloned one and sitting next to my other strains from seed they still look small and very bushy. Overall awesome grow and may visit again depending on how the smoke is. Ps 161 is dry and trimmed weight

Grow Questions

When I add my nutrients into the gallon it sometimes take 9ml ph down to get it to 6.5. Is there a point when the amount of ph solution youโ€™re using could harm the plant? Or as long as itโ€™s properly PHd it doesnโ€™t matter?

i,m a newbie too, but i registrate this too, i would day it depends on what kind of PH Down you use. There are different types of and they interakt different. But mostly its Acid which drives your EC Value higher then it is without PH down. So if you use much of it, you eventually lower your nutrients to hold a EC Value under 2. If you think further that means youre using less nutrients at the end because of it.

Dump as much as you need to get your target pH. My water is like 8.8pH out of the tap and when I'm feeding super light near the start of the grow, the nutes only drag my pH down to like 8.0. I put whatever I need in order to get to 5.8, which much lower than your target. If it's giving you trust issues, my diaries might give you some confidence. Don't overthink it. pH to your target and call it a day. Good luck!

There's no substitute for a quality pH down product. They are not all created equal. And I would also suggest that when you pH your nutrient solution, DO NOT dump 10ml of pH down in your water in one douche. That's a great way to lock out calcium. If you add Phosphoric Acid too quickly to a nutrient solution, you might notice a cloudy appearance immediately form where the acid flows into the water. That's your calcium getting instantly locked out. pHing your nutrient solution is a slow and careful process. For example, when i am adjusting a 5 gallon container from a 7.4 pH down to where i want it which is 6.2, i'll first take a reading to see where I'm starting. So 7.4 is my baseline. Then i take my eye dropper and apply 20 drops, 1 drop at a time in different spots on the water surface. Then i stir and test. 6.8 pH, ok, then i add another 15 drops in the same manner, stir and test. 6.5, ok, i add 10 more drops, stir and test, 6.3. Ok, i add 3 more drops, stir and test, and after that my pH might hit the low 6.2's or high 6.1's. Then i let the solution sit for a few hours. Then i come back and re-test. A good quality pH down should keep your pH reasonably stable. And after 2 hours you come back and re-test your pH and it's still the same as 2 hours prior, then it's a good pH down product. If it's fluctuated and you have to adjust, then adjust it to where you want and then water in, but you might wanna think about a different pH down product. We're lucky in Canada in that we have so many great hydroponic and garden shops with good quality items.

Iโ€™m about to go into week 3 flower in 3 days. My plants it seems have been less focused on stretch for the past couple days, more on growing the colas I would say. would start week 3 be a good time to do heavy defolia/lollypop?

Lollipop yes, heavy defoliation, no. ALL of the plants energy to grow is made in/by the leaves. Less leaves = less energy being made = less potential growth (smaller flowers). Removing a large amount of leaves from plants that size would severely effect the plants ability to grow flowers to their full potential. The plant relies on those leaves to make the energy it needs to grow the flowers!

Iโ€™m starting week 3 flower and giving my plants ph balanced osmosis water with 4calmag and a 4-3-3 organic liquid nutrient and the 1-2-3 massive bloom green planet nutes at recommend dose but Iโ€™ve got some dying leaves on the lower growth. Is this normal or under water or nute?

Itโ€™s natural for that to happen. What you are seeing is the plant recognizes that leaf as not producing so the plant is pulling its nutrients from that leaf to sacrifice it to feed other growth. I usually try to eliminate a lot of the bottom foliage to force everything up to the top part of the plant for increase bud production. Other than that I think your girl is looking great. Keep doing what you are doing I hope this helps.

Week 5 of flower starts tomorrow and I think my buds arenโ€™t fattening up like I want? They have started to a little in the past couple days but Iโ€™m wondering if Iโ€™ve got my nutes right or if they need more or more volume? Any good suggestions? I updated my nutes on my diary.

Your plant is healthy. Don't treat it like foie gras. React to deficiencies and toxicties as you normally would, but don't get smart and try to force feed it more. Genetics is primary factor for size of resultingn colas - assuming good health an some attempt to max out DLI (daily light integral, read wiki). However, if you grow out too many branches/colas, the overall size of each will suffer whiel the yield will rmain relatively the same. DLI (light) determines potential yield along with genetics. So, if you capture the light in the entire area (specficialyl the top of leaves fill entire area) and limit it to 2-3 colas per sq ft, you'll maximize yield and should have decent sized buds relative to the genetics at work. More colas than that just means more trimming effort, smaller buds, more larf at bottom and same yield ... Embarassingly, it took me too long to figure this out. I remember asking some people if this effect was something that occurs after i grew some plants with fewer colas than i normally did and seemd to notice this trend, and was met with incredulity when i brought it up. The 'experts' i asked in a large chat channel here essentially said more colas = more buds and that is far too simplified relative to reality. That set me back 2 years before i found much better info about this and going to be more dedicated to implementing it in a systematic way. (check out cocoforcannabis dr photon's corner.. the comments to these articles are iffy, but sometimes the conversations are worth it too).

I recently switched to 5 gal buckets for mixing my nutrient solution in and it was going well until I foolishly left my solution out and open to grow various slimes and what not. (At least I got to use half of it) Whatโ€™s the proper way to store your solution so it doesnโ€™t do that

Lid closed in a cool dark area is ideal, no longer then 4 days like leftovers. airtight if possible. If there is room in the fridge its good. Or freeze it and let it thaw out on the soil line in summer like how some people water orchids. Air stone can help like @Organoman suggested, it will also promote aerobic bacteria vs anaerobic and that can sometimes be a bonus. To @UBU's point, chloramine does not off gas, but you can destabilize it with UV or Vit C aka ascorbic acid then it can be off gassed. But there is so little in the water its not going to affect the grow greatly. Cannabis does not seem to be overly sensitive to CL from my experience with it, unlike some carnivorous plants, they can be really picky. Good Luck!

Is it too late do take off large fan leaves should I let it ride to avoid stress on the plants or should I take off some large fan leaves? Lower buds a little under developed 2-3 weeks left before harvest

those leaves are the energy source for your plant they absorb the light and send that energy thru to the buds I only reccomend removing leaves if they are underneath and not getting hardly any light or they are blocking the buds from recieving light and stopping air movement which is important to combat bud rot etc So in your case its not a matter of too late but just not needed imo

Is it right to be starting flush from now on ? Today is the start of week 8. The breeder says 8-10 weeks. Maybe I add some carbs and stuff while flushing still? To me it seems only a couple ambers mostly cloudy but 20% clear trichs? First time grower here

your plant doesn't look like it has a toxicity or overfed in any clear way. carbs feed microbes and do nothing directly for the plant.. this will have very limited effect at this stage of the game. Are you seeing amber outside of the top colas? Make sure not to look at trichomes on the leaves. I'd guess you ahve 7-10 days left and could go water-only if you wanted. Don't do excessive runoff though, the plant still needs building blocks (law of conservation of mass). to ripen. The thing is, what if you have 15 days left? Now, you'll have a plant 80% yellow when you still need photosynthesis to power the rest of the ripening... so, don't be afraid to change course if the canopy takes a nosedive too soon and you don't see enough amber/cloudy to your personal preference. flushing just to flush is not a good reason. There should always be a reason behind it... just as blindly defoliating isn't beneficial, despite common belief. This observable effect is no different than people believing that stress is a cause of heartburn.. it is not, yet some still cling to that belief. Even doctors in the 90s long after it was known not likely to be true contineud to spread this false belief. Molecular chemisty is beyond the resolution of human senses. I was lazy and gave water only the last 7-8 days of last grow. Got a fade, but only at very end. I did this because i was lazy not beacuse i think it changes the taste of the weed. A plant that had long-term toxicities is going to taste like shit even if you flush it. as long as you avoid overfeeding or react to it quickly when it does start to progress, all is well. Your foliage does not exhibit a problem relative to stayge of life cycle (entering senescence at this point.. some damage is inevitable and depends a lot on genetics)

You know how to train just fine! lol with the ones youโ€™ve commented on of mine, I waited till they had 8 nodes or so, top it and wait and then super crop her in half and go from there if you want a similar effect to what I did. Ps. Mine was from clone so its branching was superb at the height it was compared to anything from seed. A 12 inch plant with 12 nodes lol
DaddyPrime2
DaddyPrime2
@millerman543, I originally started with a bag seed and took clones and once I got real seeds, I just started playing around and seeing how far I could push it. And it was nice bro have peace of mind with that but also seeing how much abuse theyโ€™ll take. For me, breaking branches was more often because of unstable training practices. They need to set like that and not be loosely tied so when the pot moves funky, it yanks it around or jostles it ya know
