Week one of my Candida CD-1 grow. Seed germinated quickly and is sitting under 4-23W CFL bulbs. I added 2 blumats toward the end of the week hoping they would give me more time between watering.
So far, so good. The seedling is healthy and happy. The blumats are kind of a pain to ensure they are working properly and my reservoir kept growing algae.
This week I topped. I always feel guilty chopping a nice plant, but I need to break that A-typical dominance =( . You can also see that I added 2 more blumats. This is still before I decided they weren't worth the trouble. Up until this point the blumats still functioned as they should and were actually helpful.
Getting a nice little bush. One thing I don't like is how low to the soil she is growing. Some of the bottom fan leaves touch the soil and stay damp longer than I would like.
Switched to flower. Time for the stretch! I did find a solution to my fan leaf issue. Using some BBQ skewers I laid them criss-cross across the top of the pot. This gave me something to to rest the leaves on and keep them off the soil. In the future I will probably just remove the leaves before they cause any problems.
This is my first experience with my 150W HPS. Switching from CFL only to the HPS for flower was a big change. I did not realize how much extra heat it would create. My grow space is a custom built box that I keep in a walk-in closet and not easily vented. While my box is vented and has great airflow, the hot exhaust had nowhere to go being inside the closet. Even with the closet door open 24/7 heat was a constant issue (for the plant and me)
Overall this was a fairly simple grow. No surprises (other than a few fungus gnats). Smell was never a major issue. My biggest problem was the heat from the 150W HPS. Ive decided that type of light source just isn't ideal for my setup due to size restrictions. I have already replaced it with a 600W LED for my next grow. Much much cooler. I don't know if Ill ever grow CD1 again. I think I think I need a little more THC than 1% 😂. I can however recommend it to anyone looking for a CBD strain. Try it out!00
